Micro Machines
Review by BigCj34
"A good Mga Drive racer scaled down to size, that features your everyday household stuuf, and more."
This is Micro Machines. It is not your normal racer. It features your the things you would have everyday, from the brakfast table cars, to school desks, tanks racing on your bed, pool tables, gardens, the loft and more. You can fall off the edge and slow down. You have various cars, from normal ones to helicopters and tanks where you shoot each other till they explode. (Not yours anyway.) Original, based on small toy cars, and you race tham. This is the good game which started it all off. Not the road racer you normally have. Let's have a closer look.
When you boot up, you have two options. 1 player or 2 player, and on 1 player, you have two modes. Challenge or head to head. On Challenge you race 3 cars, and you need to come 1st, I think second will do as well. If you lose, you lose a life. If you keep first, you can enter a bonus stage to win a life if you complete it. On head to head, you race against another car. You have a bar where there are 8 lights. 4 are on your colour, the other 4 are on the other colour. You need to highlight all 8 lights in your colour. You do this by getting so far up till the other one is off the screen. One light for you. If you haven't done so once you have raced all three laps, theb guy who got the most lights highlighted wins, if they are even you enter a playoff where you race till you get the other guy off the screen to win. If you lose, you lose a life and have to start again. On two player you play head to head, similar to what I said before.
The graphics are average Mega Drive stuff, but nicely detailed. You have a detailed environment. It is a birds eye view and that is good. No problems with the graphics. Score: 8/10
The sound is good. You have some good menu music and some good car effects when they move, the sound when you fall off the edge, the horn and more. Good sound, no probs. Score: 8/10
The gameplay is good. Racing around in little cars which is original. You fall off the edge and there are many obstacles that get in your way. There isn't much to say, as this is good. It gets more difficult aas you advance through the levels. It's all explained at the top. Score: 8/10
The length. There are 2 competitions, but there could be more. There are lots of tracks. Enough to keep you occupied with the challenges. Score 7/10
Buy the game. Download it for your emulator or something. Micro Machines 2 is a lot better, so unless you want to add this to your collection, get Micro Machines 2.
This is the game that started the series and should get some credit for originality. A good racer. Overall Score: 8/10
