Micro Machines 2
Review by Rain_of_Swords
"This is still the best racing game I've ever played"
I have to say that I am surprised by the lack of reviews for this game on this site. This game is in my humble opinion a masterpiece and one of the greatest games of the 16-BIT era. If you don't believe me then check out the other reviews currently available. They all agree that Micro Machines 2 is awesome.
GRAPHICS-9: I have very little reason to complain about the graphics. Everything is bright and colorful and suit the cute style of the game. The characters are all unique with their own personalities (surprising due to the fact that you only see their portraits). Each of the levels have objects there to make them less boring or in some cases to act as obstacles. If I have one minor complaint it is that a lot of obstacle are repeated over and over. I mean just how many hammers or snooker cues can one person have?
SOUND-7: The sound is probably the worst thing about this game. There is very little music in this game except for at the beginning when you are choosing what mode to play and also after you finish a race. There is no music during the races. Instead you are left with sound effects such as the engines, beeping and the sound of crashing. Still it suits the game so I can't give it to low a score.
GAME PLAY-10: Absolutely brilliant, and incredibly addictive. This is one of the best multi-player experiences that I have ever played. It uses J-Cart technology meaning that you can play with up to four players by plugging controllers three and four into the cart. This game is very intense and personally I think that it rivals Mario Kart in both fun and intensity. Instead of racing to the finish you must try to put distance between you and your opponent so that he/she goes off screen and loses a point. The winner is the one with the most points at the end.
Of course the single-player option isn't lacking either. If it was I wouldn't have given such a high score. You have many options. There is the standard time trial option, a challenge option which is about getting to through about 25 races without losing your lives and a league option where you and all the other racers are put into a competition and your job is to come first in all brackets until you finally make it to the top.
LIFESPAN-10: This game should last you a long time. I still play it to this day and I still love it
FINAL RECOMMENDATION: Just in case it isn't obvious from above I would advise you to buy this game. Even if you aren't a huge fan of racing games I would still recommend it. It's the kind of game that you can't go wrong with.
