"Of speed and knuckles"
Once upon a time, there was a blue hedgehog that ran at breakneck speeds. In his third game, he met a mysterious island dweller that goes by the name Knuckles. In Sonic and Knuckles, you can now play as the tough Echidna as well as go back in time and play him in Sonic 3 and 2. A main attraction in this platformer is the ability of the game cart to lock onto other carts; that means if you have Sonic 2, 3, you can lock them on to access new hidden features.
In Sonic and Knuckles, you choose to adventure as either title characters. The games differ from one another--even though it might not look it at first, Sonic's run is different than Knuckles'. The characters offer a similar experience, with some main differences: Sonic is a bit faster but Knuckles can glide and climb onto objects.
The game follows the basic Sonic formula, treading Zones and Acts from left to right under a 10 minute time constriction before facing off a boss at the end of a Zone, mostly Robotnik in a machina.
There was little done to differentiate/improve on previous Sonic titles in this, but the game wasn't broken so nothing was meant to be fixed. However, what new things could've been implemented can only dwell in one's own imagination.
The game takes you to varied lands, from lava-ridden areas to tranquil countrysides. Let's take a caption of what you will be experiencing in the game: you're knuckles, speeding your way through an act when you get stopped by a leash. You duck and spin to break the leash. You have plenty of options on how to proceed, over the loops, through the loops, or on a lane below the loop altogether. You reach amazing speeds doing loops before getting launched high into the air at an edge. Basic Sonic, lovely Sonic.
To fans of the Sonic series, this is a MUST, and is considered by many to be the best in the Sonic formula. I take preference to Hedgehog 2, but I adore both titles. Try it out.
