"Sonic's Back in a Genesis Classic!"
Genesis has several great Sonic games. This one's about the same, but it has better graphics, sound, and extra stages than the previous ones. Sonic and Knuckles even has a slot on top of the cartridge, so you can put other sonic games in, and play different stages.
The graphics are fairly sharp, and the color is suprisingly good. All the sonic games for Genesis look basically the same, but the colors are much more vivid in S&N.
The music has a kind of simple techno-style sound. As in many games, the music is a little repeatative, but it's still pretty good. The actual quality/clarity of the sound is very good. The best sound effect is when you loose on a bonus stage.
This is where games like Mario and Sonic really shine. Sonic games are about as fun to play as any game anywhere. Using fast moves (such as the clasic spin), you navigate a complex world, fighting robotnic, the villain of the series, several times. You try to collect rings throughout the game.
There are also bonus stages, where you can get extra rings. These are different from Sonic 3. In these bonus stages, you run around a giant sphere, which speeds up gradually, with the music. You run around trying to run into blue balls in rectangle forms (usually 3 by 3 or 4 by 4). If you get all the blue balls in an arrangment, they turn into rings, which you can collect. The stage is completed/over if you either collect all the rings, or run into red spheres. You get to these stages by running through big spinning rings that are in certain locations in the normal game.
One of the best and newest parts of this Sonic is that you get to play each stage with both Sonic, and Knuckles. While it seems like this would get old, it doesn't because Knuckles can fly and Sonic can run faster/better than Knuckles, so it's different each time you go through a stage.
If you put a non-Sonic game in the slot on top of the cartridge, and press all the buttons on the controller, you get to do secret bonus stages (the spheres where you run over the red balls to collect rings).
Replay Value: 10/10
Games like Sonic and Knuckles (with great gameplay), are very fun to play for hours and hours. I've beat the game twice, and I still play it ocassionally (years after buying it).
