"The proof of Sega's real power."
This is my favorite system of them all (yes, even better than Super Nintendo) It's amazing what sega did even though Nintendo ruled the 8-bit generation. Then Nintendo released the all new ( and with such an original name!) Super Nintendo, which was technologically better than Genesis in almost every category. Sega needed a new mascot. So they were very smart and used the power that Genesis had that SNES didn't, which was speed. Sonic it was. And it rocked. Sega kept creating awesome game after awesome game... It is certainly a great system, too bad Sega made some big mistakes (cough cough 32X, cough cough) during it's lifespan, but they always made up by releasing a New sonic game or a Phantasy star... Anyways, here are the categories.
Sports: You're kidding right? EA made new sports games every year, and this was (not anymore) the number 1 reason to own a Sega Genesis.
Action: Sega's specialty. Sonic, Vectorman, Gunstar Heroes, alisia Dragoon (yes, It's an awesome game... try it!) Bare Knuckle (AKA Streets of Rage) Golden Axe and many others... number 2 reason to own a genesis
RPG: Yes, even though SNES had more RPGs, Genesis had a bunch of great ones too. Shining Force 1 and 2, Phantasy Star 2 and 4 and Shadowrun are the system's top 5... There are plenty of others, though
Racing: Not many, I don't remember a lot of them, but here are a couple of them: Outrun, Virtua Racing and others
Fighting: Only later Genesis got a couple of worthwhile fighting games. Super Street Fighter 2, Eternal Champions are the best.
Anybody that says that Sega sucks is nothing more than a biased fanboy, and that's the pure truth. Pick up a Genesis today (only 30 bucks!) if you don't own one and start playing these amazing Sega classics right away!
