#1# [Brief Info of Game and Guide]
---
The Siege of the Necromancer is the second digital gamebook in the 'Gamebook
Adventures' series by Tin Man Games.  By choosing your paths through hundreds
of different choices, the goal is to reach the ending of the game without
dying, failing in your quest, or otherwise ruining your chances.  Of course,
dice-based combat is also on the cards for any enemies you may stumble across,
and it's possible to lose health by losing fitness checks to hazards.

This guide is written to help anybody struggling through the many dank caverns
within the land of Orlandes, especially as quite a few may seem familiar to
each other after exploring several similar corridors and caves.  Both hints and
a full path guide are given.

You should also remember that the game itself has a bookmark feature which will
help you solve the gamebook yourself without the need for a guide.  Recent
versions of the game have several difficulty levels, giving you the option of
starting with 10 bookmarks, but disabling the cheat unlockable if you beat the
game on those settings.  Feel free to use these modes to experiment with
routes, then when you have a plan, go for it in classic mode!

Now, some important notes about the guide itself!

I'll be using these abbreviations throughout the rest of the FAQ:
VIT = Vitality
OFF = Offense
DEF = Defence
Bad End = A bad ending where the plot is not resolved
True End = Winning the game and getting the best ending

Page numbers will not be listed (as they have no tangible use in a digital
gamebook), and instead, I'll title each 'room' with a vague description, which
will look something like this:

GERBIL RIDDEN BASEMENT: Find a gerbil.
 Befriend the gerbil: Perform a fitness check.
  Success: +2 VIT from kissing the gerbil, Go to PET STORE
  Fail: Contract 'Rabies' disease, Go to PET STORE
 Ignore the gerbil: Go to TOTALLY SWEET DANCE CONTEST.


If there is an enemy to fight, their statistics will be listed in brackets
after their name, in the same order as the game shows them.

PET STORE:
 Fight Store Owner Dressed As A Monkey (3/2/1)
  Win: Go to TOTALLY SWEET DANCE CONTEST.

This would mean that the enemy 'Store Owner' have 3 VIT, 2 OFF, and 1 DEF.

There's no 'Lose:' paths listed for enemies, because losing to an enemy will
always lead to a description of how the enemy beat you followed by a Bad End.

Take Notes
----------
You want to know the reason why I decided to put together a guide for a
gamebook?  It's because this game gave me an excuse to sit down with gel pens
and notepads and jot down all the outcomes, and by the end of the game, I had
mapped out so many alternate paths that I knew the entire game by memory!

You should try it too!  Even if you don't have any real notepads handy, just
fire up your computer equivalent and type things to help you remember what
happens when you choose certain options.

You only need to note down 'Go North = +3 gold, Go to Space Station' once,
and then when you reach that point next time, you'll know exactly where you've
been, what items you'll get, and what new things to try.


Achievement/Art Tips
--------------------
All of the achievements in the game are pretty self-explanatory, but if you
can't figure out how to reach a particular location/character, just try
different routes or, failing that, look up the name of the location or
character in the full path guide after you've beaten the game at least once.


Fitness Tips
------------
When you're first playing the game, and enjoying the storyline and curiosities,
rolling a low fitness score can still be fun to play with.  Failing fitness
checks can often lead to new routes and puzzle opportunities which can easily
be missed if you're playing with a very high fitness score (such as Novice
mode).  A low fitness can lead to a lot of enjoyable side-quests to experiment
with!

However!  If you've played the game long enough to know exactly how to get to
the true ending in the best possible way, there is absolutely no reason to play
with a fitness of anything lower than 12 (the maximum).  If you just need to
hit the ending, keep re-rolling a character until you get that maximum fitness!
At the very end of the game, the weapons and armour can require you to have a
high fitness to even use them, and battles will require you to roll fitness
just to get the chance to damage enemies.

In short, any fitness will do when playing for fun and exploration!
However, the best possible fitness is near-necessary to survive reaching the
true ending.


Always Try Different Routes!
----------------------------
It can be easy for someone new to gamebooks to be misled into sticking to 'bad
routes' every time they play, and never trying the other (possibly better)
choices.

Here's an extra silly hypothetical example!:
"You're drinking from a bottle of water, when all of a sudden, Edgar Allen Poe
arrives at the scene carrying a some kind of black feathery creature!  The
creature pierces your eyes with its gaze, and if you're not careful, it may
pierce your eyes with its beak!  Do you: A) Attack the bird, or B) Tickle the
bird?"

A new player may naturally decide to attack the bird, where it may say:

"With your grip firm around the bird, it lets out a few squawks that
tear through your mind, sounding as if it never more wants to be in your grasp,
right until the moment that the neck snaps.  You get a 'Black Feather', and
good ol' Eddy gives you 5 Gold to boot, finally free from that accursed demon!"

Awesome!  Right?  The player clearly made the correct choice there!  It would
have been stupid to try and tickle that bird, so every time you play the game,
you should ALWAYS attack it!   ...Unfortunately, the truth is, the other option
might have actually said:

"Giggling through its clenched beak, the bird screeches something along the
lines of "No more!  No more!", before finally surrendering and fluttering out
of Edgar's grasp, circling your heads. "Not since the old loon started writing
morbid poetry have I laughed this much!" the crow claims.  "By the way, this
seems totally irrelevant, but the secret magic word to beat the atrocity at the
end of the game is 'Cthulhu'!  With a hard T!"

Sure, the gold was nice in the first instance, and maybe the black feather
would have allowed you to upgrade your bow and arrow later in the game, but
getting the magic word to win the game?  That's kinda important!  It always
pays to experiment with different routes, no matter how counter-intuitive they
might seem.

There is only one impossible choice, but that's there to point out where the
player went wrong more than anything else:

The reason for this, is that by running to the steps and succeeding in climbing
them, you are guaranteed to not have the Enerio key for the door at the top.
