Topsy and Tim Start School is an interactive story which helps prepare children for the experience of starting school. Through a series of six fun games and activities the child is encouraged to interactively role-play their first day at school. First they create an avatar in their own likeness and then enter the name of their school before packing their school bag, travelling to school, finding their peg, playing classroom based activities and then, of course, home time!

Each of the games and activities within Topsy and Tim Start School offer three levels of difficulty and will not only prepare the child for their first experiences through repeat play, but will help develop fundamental educational skills such as shape sorting, colour matching, logic and deduction, observation and memory skills. The structure of the app allows repetition of the all of the games and activities, building the child’s confidence as they become comfortable and familiar with the school routine.

Jean and Gareth Adamson, creators of the famous Topsy and Tim series, met whilst studying art and illustration at Goldsmiths College in the 1950s.

Together they created a modern series in keeping with the predominant mood of the early 60s - fresh and bright, with a contemporary feel - which showed children in situations they would actually experience.

Gareth passed away in 1982 but Jean continues to work on the Topsy and Tim publishing programme. Now a grandmother, she still sketches the rough concepts for a designer to illustrate - her work has been recognised in the form of an MBE for services to children’s literature.
