II. Background Story

Here is the background story from the instruction booklet:

"Alien vs. Predator is a tactical simulator depicting the events following the fall of Camp Golgotha Colonial Marine Training Base to a group of xenomorphs (aliens) not yet fully classified. Limited data from the incident also allow for reasonably extrapolated simulations from the viewpoints of the two alien groups believed to have participated in the incident. The data contained herein is considered top secret as of this release, and any duplication, distribution or display is punishable by court martial with a maximum penalty not to exceed seven years imprisonment in the Yuggoth penal colony, SYS Aldebaren IV. (USCMC, 53622a)"

IV. Alien Scenario

"In space no one can hear you scream." - Tagline from Alien

A. Alien Background Story

Here is the Alien background story from the instruction booklet:

"The Queen is being held prisoner in the Predator craft, and every moment, shrieking through THE HIVE collective mind, the instinctive/telepathic cry rings in your acid blood -- RESCUE. To accomplish your objective in this scenario, you must start thinking like an Alien. You are one of THE HIVE. The interests of THE HIVE dictate your actions. Your life means nothing so long as THE HIVE continues. As an Alien, you must rely on your speed and inherent weaponry to protect THE HIVE -- and locate new hosts to gestate a new generation of Alien Warriors. You begin the simulation with one Warrior "life". Because you have the unique ability to generate new lives, you and THE HIVE can live forever. You can have up to three active cocoons at any one time but remember to take into account the time it takes each gestating embryonic Alien to spawn and mature inside its host...or you may find yourself without an able Alien Warrior to rescue the Queen."

1. Alien Objective

The objective of the Alien Scenario is to rescue the Alien Queen imprisoned in the Predator Ship docked in Sublevel 1. The Queen is being held in an energy cage in the bow of the ship; to free her you must destroy the four generators adjacent her cage.

3. Alien Weapons

The Alien has three melee attacks at its disposal, so you'll have to get up close and personal to dispatch your foes. In lieu of ammo, each attack has a Strength Meter that is depleted while you attack and slowly replenishes when not being used. The Strength Meters are displayed on the right side of the HUD.

a. Venomous Tail

The Alien's longest reaching attack is also it its slowest. The Tail Attack temporarily stuns an opponent. The Tail Attack is too slow for normal use, you'll only use it for creating cocoons.

b. Claw

The Claw Attack is the Alien's weakest attack. It is primarily used in conjunction with the Tail Attack to create cocoons.

c. Extending Jaw

The Alien's most powerful attack, one bite is all it takes to kill a Marine.

4. Cocoons

Cocoons are basically extra lives for the Alien. Only Marines can be used to create a cocoon. To cocoon a Marine you need to hit it with a Claw Strike, Tail Strike, then another Claw Strike in rapid succession. You will then see a prompt that says "COCOON THE ENEMY", simply walk towards your foe until you see the "COCOON COMPLETE" message. It is important to note that you are limited to only three cocoons at a time, if you try to create more, you will get a "COCOON FAILED" message.

Cocoons must mature before they can be used. Their gestation status is displayed on the left side of the HUD. When a cocoon has fully matured, the picture will change into an adult Alien.

When your Alien's life meter is depleted (provided you have a mature cocoon available), a "COCOON HATCHING" message will appear. For a few seconds you will still be able to attack but you WON'T be able to create a new cocoon. The screen will go black and you're new warrior will start at the location of the most RECENT cocoon. Your automap will be cleared but any enemies you've slain will remain dead.

C. Alien Strategies

  • You are going to die. A LOT! That does NOT mean you're losing. It is important not to get discouraged. This is a battle of attrition, the idea is to use your "endless" army of Alien warriors to overwhelm your foes.
  • There are no enemies inside the airducts. This makes them great places to save and/or wait for cocoons to gestate.
  • Aliens CANNOT use elevators to change levels but they CAN still open/close the doors and use them as save points.
  • Speed kills! The Alien is far and away the fastest character in the game so use that to your advantage. Quickly close in on your foes and dispatch them before they can react. Or if you find yourself in trouble, make like Forrest Gump and run like heck!
  • Use your cocoons wisely. For the early levels, I recommend only keeping ONE cocoon in reserve at a time. Otherwise, you'll have to do a lot of backtracking later on.

V. Predator Scenario

"Soon the hunt will begin." - Tagline from Predator

A. Predator Background Story

Here is the Predator background story from the instruction booklet:

"Come forward, Youthful Warrior. Now is the time you ascend to the Stars. There to become one with your Honor. Unleash your power before our Race. Witness, will be our Elders to the Ancient Rite of Passage.

The Trial of Honor has begun. The Judgment of the Elders, alone you will face. Give your life to the Elders in disgrace. Take your life for the Elders with no fear--only Pride. In thought always keep, in action persevere, for your Honor and Tao will lead you to Them. Honor that you earn is the only way you exist. With that Honor, you may Hunt beside the Elders. You live for the Hunt. You Hunt for Honor.

Fortune has shone its light for your Rite, young one. Discovered, we have, an ideal scenario for the fighting you require. Not far from here, hostility appears to be in force. One of the most challenging of all species has come into contact with one of the weakest. To a skilled Warrior, the oxygen- breathers will not pose much of a threat, though a developed colony of aliens will hinder your path. To show the Elders your strength, you must penetrate the 'Alien Ship' and take away the driving force behind the colony--their Queen, so precious. A lovely addition to our Trophies, her skull will be. Graceful and expressive of the ultimate perfection their species has become. The Rite which lies before you has sent many of our kind to their destiny. Do not let your guard down, or they will certainly infest your corpse, to be. They survive in any environment. They have wiped out entire races like a raging death machine. Their presence has become a permanent disease, condemning all other life to perpetual demise.

We are approaching the targeted vessel. Interior scanning confirms our suspicion. Killing there is much of, as the aliens are again doing what they do best--surviving. The Test will begin once we have located a suitable entrance to accommodate us.

A powerful arsenal of weapons will accompany you, but when the Test begins only the Wrist Blade is active for your battles. You will need to attain superior weaponry to kill the Alien Queen and claim her crested skull. Superior weapons will only be awarded as you reach and maintain preset levels of Honor Points. If your Point total falls below any of these preset levels, you will lose in succession each weapon. Always fight with Honor, and victory will come."

1. Predator Objective

The objective of the Predator Scenario is to kill the Alien Queen. The Queen is located in the heart of the Alien Ship docked in Sublevel 5.

Numpad 9 Strafe Right
Numpad * + # Reset Game

3. Predator Weapons

You begin the game armed with the Wrist Blade. More powerful weapons will be unlocked as you gain Honor Points. Like the Alien, the Predator's weapons don't use ammo. Instead each one has a Strength Meter that is slowly depleted as attacks are used and slowly regenerates when they are not.

a. Wrist Blade

You begin armed only with the Wrist Blade. The Wrist Blade is a short range melee weapon. It takes two hits of the Wrist Blade to kill both Marines and Aliens.

b. Combi-Stick

Once you've earned 150,000 Honor Points you'll unlock the Combi-Stick. Like the Wrist Blade, the Combi-Stick is a melee weapon but it does give you a bit more range. It is also more powerful; it only takes a single blow from the Combi-Stick to kill both Marines and Aliens.

c. Smart Disk

At 350,000 Honor Points you'll be given access to the Smart Disk. The Smart Disk is a ranged weapon capable of slaying both Marines and Aliens with a single shot. In my opinion it is the best weapon in the game.

d. Shoulder Cannon

Rack up a whopping 750,000 Honor Points and you'll be able to wield the Predator's signature weapon, the Shoulder Cannon. The Shoulder Cannon can fire multiple shots that not only take out Marines and Aliens in one hit, but will continue THROUGH them till it hits a wall! Not only that, but the blasts cause splash damage, hurting anyone near the impact...including yourself!

While the Shoulder Cannon IS by far the most powerful weapon in the game (for any character), in practice it is not that useful. It has two major flaws: it is too easy to cause damage to yourself and the fact that it is shoulder mounted means that it has a high trajectory making it impossible to use in tight corridors and doorways. The Shoulder Cannon really shines when used in large open areas with lots of enemies...and is the only weapon capable of taking down an Alien Queen!

e. Health-Pak

Just as vital to your quest as your weapons, the Health-Pak allows you to store health from food and medkits for later use. Simply press and hold 5 on the numpad to replenish your energy bar.

It is important to note that if you continue to hold down 5 after your energy bar is full you will continue to deplete your Health-Pak. If this happens your Health-Pak will begin to flash as a warning that you are wasting your reserves.

f. Audio Waveform Analyzer

A poor man's Motion Tracker, the Audio Waveform Analyzer is the oscilloscope located in the lower left corner of the HUD. It reacts to nearby sounds, the louder the sounds, the greater the oscillation.

Unlike the Motion Tracker, the Audio Waveform Analyzer doesn't show enemy locations. On top of that, since it is always picking up sound, it's difficult to determine if an enemies are nearby.

While it can be cool to watch while you're blasting barrels with your Shoulder Cannon, the Audio Waveform Analyzer is pretty much useless.

g. Invisibility

Predators are famous for their ability to turn invisible. While cloaked Marines will be unable to see you...provided you keep your distance and don't draw attention to yourself. Aliens are able to see you even while cloaked. Attacking while cloaked is considered dishonorable and will cause you to LOSE Honor Points.

h. Multispectrum Filter

While cloaked the Predator can use his Multispectrum Filter and choose from five different vision enhancements. While this sounds cool on paper, in practice only the last two of the five are useful.

Thermal (Blue)

Thermal is the spectrum everyone remembers from the Predator movies. Unfortunately, due to either the Jaguar's limitations or lack of programmers' skills, this view just doesn't work and it is very difficult to distinguish foe from environment.

Infrared (Yellow)

This is just an absolute mess and is there for aesthetic purposes only.

Electromagnetic (Purple)

Similar to Ultra Violet with some splotches of color thrown in.

Ultra Violet (Pink)

Ultra Violet is the spectrum of choice while hunting in the Sublevels (with the exception of the Med Labs).

Night Vision (Green)

I recommend using Night Vision while in the Predator Ship and inside Med Labs.

4. Honor Points

Honor Points are earned by killing enemies honorably (i.e. while visible) and are lost by killing enemies dishonorably (i.e. while invisible). Please note that you will still LOSE points if you attack an enemy first while cloaked then become visible before landing the coup de grace. As you earn more Honor Points you will gain access to more powerful weapons. If your score falls below a weapon's access level, you will lose the ability to wield that weapon.

The amount of Honor Points won/lost depends on three factors: visibility, enemy, and whether you used a melee or ranged weapon. Melee attacks will earn/lose full value while ranged attacks will earn half value and lose DOUBLE value!

Note that you lose points for attacking Aliens while invisible, even though they can see you.

C. Predator Strategies

  • Never attack while invisible.
  • Be patient, particularly in the early going. Wait until a Marine's patrol route separates him from a group before attacking.
  • Be careful when attacking Aliens. If you are too close when they die you will take damage from the acid-blood spatter.
  • Even though Aliens can see you while cloaked, you still lose Honor Points for attacking them while invisible.
  • To shake off a Facehugger rapidly press left/right on the joypad.
  • The Predator is unable to enter Air Ducts.
  • The safest place to save your game is inside an elevator.
  • The West Elevator cannot move between Sublevels 3 and 4.
  • Be careful while using the Shoulder Cannon, especially in confined areas.
  • Do not attempt to confront the Alien Queen until you have unlocked the Shoulder Cannon.

D. Path to the Queen (Predator)

  1. Start at Entrance to Predator Ship (Map Point A)
  2. Sublevel 1 (Map Point A)
  3. Enter Eastern Elevator (Map Point Z)

E. Predator Mini-Walkthrough

STARTING OUT

Before venturing out, I recommend taking some time to explore the Predator Ship. There are few Marines and plenty of medkits making this a good place to get your feet wet.

As soon as the game begins, press the Option button to cloak. Now press the numpad 6 to cycle through the vision enhancements until you've selected Night Vision (the green tinted one). Then press numpad 8 to bring up the automap on your HUD. You're now ready to go hunting!

When you find a Marine, walk right up to him, de-cloak, and then quickly hit him twice with your Wrist Blade to slay him. Once he's slain cloak again. Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

Continue exploring the Predator Ship, killing Marines and collecting medkits to fill your Health-Pak. When you're ready to move on, head back to the ship's entrance at Map Point A.

GAINING HONOR POINTS

When you enter Sublevel 1, switch your vision to Ultra Violet (the pink one). Marines will patrol the Sublevels in squads; it's important to be patient. Wait for one to separate from the group before attacking.

Your goal is to earn enough Honor Points to unlock the Shoulder Cannon. Take your time and explore the five Sublevels. Also be on the lookout for medkits and food to fill up your Health-Pak. The Predator cannot enter airducts but can enter/use elevators. Elevators make excellent save points.

Once you've earned enough Honor Points to unlock the Shoulder Cannon, it's time to go after the Alien Queen.

CONFRONTING THE QUEEN

The West Elevator can't move between Sublevels 3 and 4 so to reach the Alien Ship on Sublevel 5 you'll need to take the East Elevator (Map Point Z) to Sublevel 4 then make your way around the edge of the Training Maze to the West Elevator (Map Point Y). The entrance to the Alien Ship is located at Map Point A on Sublevel 5.

I recommend staying de-cloaked while in the Alien Ship. There are no Marines and Aliens can see you if you were cloaked anyway. It's also important to note that it's a lot easier to see with your normal vision here than with any of the vision enhancements. I also recommend using your Smart Disk exclusively until you reach the Queen's Lair. The corridors are too short and narrow, you'd end up doing more damage to yourself than your foes.

The Queen's Lair is located at Map Point D. Before entering the Queen's Lair it's a good idea to save your game just in case something goes horribly wrong. Then equip your Shoulder Cannon and get ready to rumble!

As soon as you enter the Queen's Lair, spray the area with blasts from your Shoulder Cannon to clear out any nearby Aliens, Facehuggers, and Eggs. The Eggs in the back of the room won't hatch if you don't get near them so stay close to the entrance.

Continually hit queen with Shoulder Cannon while healing as needed. She'll scream when hit (you may confuse this with her attack yell). Eventually she'll die.

VI. Marine Scenario

"In space no one can hear you scream...unless it is the battle cry of the United States Marines!" - Sergeant Major Bougus, Space Above and Beyond

A. Marine Background Story

Here is the Marine background story from the instruction booklet:

"In the Marine scenario, you assume the role of a lone Marine recently released from a brig sentence to find the population of the Marine Base slaughtered, and the installation overrun by hostile XTs (extraterrestrials). You begin the scenario with no weapons, no motion tracker, no security clearance. The objectives in this scenario are to arm yourself, set the base to self-destruct and escape in the escape pod on Sublevel 5. As per Field Operations Directive Code Section 3.29, the only escape pod remaining will not key its launch sequence unless the Terminal Destruct Sequence is initiated by authorized USCM personnel with Security Clearance 10."

1. Marine Objective

The objective of the Marine Scenario is to activate the base's self-destruct and escape in the Escape Pod.

The self-destruct can be activated in the Command Center at Map Point I on Sublevel 2 once you have Security Card #10. The Escape Pod is located at Map Point G on Sublevel 5.

a. Shotgun

The Shotgun is the first weapon you'll obtain. The Shotgun is not only weak but has a slow rate of fire, so you'll want to find another weapon as quickly as possible. It takes 3 shots to kill an Alien and a whopping 30 shells to take down a Predator. The Shotgun can be found at Map Point C on Sublevel 3.

b. Pulse Rifle

The second weapon you'll acquire is the Pulse Rifle. It is an automatic weapon with a high rate of fire and decent power as well as being able to hold plenty of ammo. The Pulse Rifle is effective against both Aliens and Predators and will be your workhorse for most of the Marine Scenario. Once you have Security Card #01 you can obtain a Pulse Rifle at either Map Point F on Sublevel 1 or Map Point I on Sublevel 3.

c. Flamethrower

After you have Security Card #07 you'll be able to access the Flamethrower. The Flamethrower is extremely effective against Aliens but you'll want to stick with the Pulse Rifle when facing Predators. You can find Flamethrowers at Map Point C on Sublevel 2 or Map Point N on Sublevel 4.

d. Smartgun

The Smartgun is tucked away at Map Point D inside the Predator Ship. It is guarded by three cloaked Predators waiting to ambush you the moment you grab it so be on your guard. It's also important to note that the Smartgun as NO ammunition so you'll need to stock up on Smartgun ammo in the Security Level 09 sections of the armories before you can use it.

The Smartgun is the most powerful weapon available in the Marine Scenario. It is capable of taking down an Alien with a single shot and a Predator with only a short burst.

e. Motion Tracker

Not really a weapon but a vital tool none the less, the Motion Tracker acts as a radar allowing you to detect nearby enemy movement. Enemies will appear as two connected circles and the distance of the nearest "ping" will be displayed at the bottom. The Motion Tracker is located at Map Point C on Sublevel 5.

4. Security Cards

By collecting Security Cards from your fallen comrades you can raise your Security Level and gain access to new areas and weapons. Once you have a Security Level of 4 or higher you can use the blue computer terminals in the Med Labs to administer first aid (see Computers section for more details).

Please note that a card of a given level gives you all access privileges of previous cards. This means that some cards (#02, #05, and #08) do not have to be collected to complete the game.

5. Computers

There are computer terminals spread throughout Camp Golgotha. These contain level schematics as well as log entries that contain valuable clues to item locations.

Blue computer terminals (found in Med Labs) also allow you to restore some of your health. The amount of health you can recover is determined by your current Security Level.

C. Marine Strategies

  • Aliens bleed acid. When they die they release a spray that can damage you if you are too close. They will also leave a pool of acid that will damage you if you walk over it.
  • Predators are TOUGH! It's often better to simply run away than try to go toe-to-toe with one.
  • Avoid killing Aliens in narrow hallways whenever possible. Try luring them to open areas first so you will be able to avoid the acid.
  • Elevators are the safest places to save.
  • When you load a saved game enemies and items will regenerate. Plan your save locations accordingly.
  • You have three save slots. Use them. Here's my system: I use Slot 1 ONLY when I'm in an elevator AND have plenty of health and ammo. I use Slot 2 every couple of minutes regardless of location, health, and ammo. I use Slot 3 immediately after collecting an important item.
  • To shake off a Facehugger rapidly press left/right on the joypad.
  • The Briefing Room (just south of the East Elevator)and Canteen (just west of the East Elevator) on Sublevel 3 are excellent places to stock up on health and ammo.
  • Wait until you have the Motion Tracker before crawling through airducts.
  • Computer logs provide clues to item locations as well as backstory to the incident at Golgotha.
  • This is NOT Doom! Don't be afraid to run away when things get too hot. The object is to escape not kill everything in sight!
  • Medkits will restore 25% of your health while food will restore 10%.
  • The West Elevator cannot move between Sublevels 3 and 4.

1. Shotgun

You begin the Marine Scenario with no weapons and a security clearance of level 0. The first order of business is to escape your cell and acquire a weapon.

Walk up to the cell door and press the A button to open it. See that dead body lying in front of you? Walk over it to grab the Shotgun...and hear a sample of the worst voice acting ever to grace a video game.

Congratulations! You've completed your first objective and armed yourself. Don't expect the rest of the game to be this easy...

There is a dead body in the southern part of the brig containing Shotgun ammo. After grabbing the ammo I recommend saving your game, then resetting the cartridge. When you load your saved game, the ammo will regenerate.

2. Security Card #01

Now that you're armed, it's time to grab your first security card. Security Card #01 is located just outside the Brig at Map Point D. Just exit the Brig and hug the wall to your left. Walk over the dead body to collect the card.

Now would be a good time to head to the Briefing Room to stock up on ammo and heal your wounds. The Briefing Room is the large square shaped room just south of the Brig.

3. Pulse Rifle

You may have noticed that the Shotgun sucks. If you're going to survive you'll need more (and faster) firepower. Time to get your grubby mitts on a Pulse Rifle!

Head to the East Elevator (marked with a Z on every Sublevel). Elevators make excellent save points so it would be a good idea to save your game now.

There are two different Pulse Rifles you can reach at Security Level 01. In my opinion, the easiest one to get to is at Map Point F on Sublevel 1, in the room just north of the East Elevator. The other is located on Sublevel 3 at Map Point I.

Take the elevator up to Sublevel 1. Follow the path to the right until you reach the open area. Now head left. Enter the first door on your left. Walk over the dead body to get your shiny new Pulse Rifle.

4. Motion Tracker

Your next objective is to obtain the extremely useful Motion Tracker located at Map Point C on Sublevel 5. The Motion Tracker acts as a radar allowing you to keep track of enemy units. No more walking backwards into the waiting grasp of an Alien for you!

Take the East Elevator to Sublevel 5. Exit the elevator and follow the path to the right. When you reach the open area, head left then enter the first door on your right. Walk over the dead body to collect the Motion Tracker.

5. Security Card #02 (Optional)

Since you can already reach Security Card #03 with your current Security Level, you can skip Security Card #02. If you are one of THOSE completist types, the card is located at Map Point H on Sublevel 3. It can only be reached via Airduct 3B.

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 2. When you exit the elevator, head right to Map Point B in the northeast corner. Here is an entrance to Airduct 3B. Walk up to the airvent (black rectangle) and press the A button to enter.

Upon entering the airduct follow the path to the left for a ways. Take the first left you come to then take a right. Take the first left and you'll arrive at Map Point M.

You'll pop out near a computer. The path to the left leads to ammo and the path behind the computer leads to another room. The door on your right leads the room containing two medkits and the body of Ship Librarian Lieutenant McNamee. He is holding Security Card #02.

6. Security Card #03

Security Card #03 is located at Map Point F on Sublevel 2. Like Security Card #02, you'll have to crawl through Airduct 3B to reach it.

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 2. When you exit the elevator, head right to Map Point B in the northeast corner. Here is an entrance to Airduct 3B. Walk up to the airvent (black rectangle) and press the A button to enter.

In the airduct head right and follow the path to Map Point G. Enter the air vent to emerge on Sublevel 2.

Open the door and proceed forward. Behind the second door is a large room. At the back of the room (Map Point F) is a body containing Security Card #03.

7. Security Card #04

Security Card #04 is located in the Training Maze on Sublevel 4 at Map Point D.

According to the computer logs, Chief Medical Officer Whittaker used his Security Level 4 access to grab some Med Kits from the Med Lab then led the surviving medical staff to hide out in the Training Maze.

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 4. Exit the elevator and walk straight ahead. Enter the first door on your right. Head straight at the first intersection then take a left at the fork. Dr. Whittaker's body...and his Security Card #04 are located at Map Point D at the end of the path.

8. Security Card #05 (Optional)

At this point you can reach Security Card #06, so if you want you can skip Security Card #05 if you want. If you feel the urge to collect it anyway, it is located at Map Point E on Sublevel 5.

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 5. Exit the elevator and take the path on your left. Take the first right you come to and walk forward until you hit a wall. Turn right and hug the wall to your left. Enter the second door you come to. Security Card #05 is located on the dead body at Map Point E on the far left of the room.

9. Security Card #06

Security Card #06 is located at Map Point E inside the Med Lab on Sublevel 4. Both doors to the Med Lab require Security Level 7 access so you'll have to crawl through Airduct 4C to enter the Med Lab. It's a bit of a hike AND you'll have to retrace your steps when you're done so make sure you're at full health and max ammo.

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 4. Exit the elevator and head left. Enter the first door you come to. Keep going and take the second left. Take the second left then hug the wall on your left until you come to the airvent at Map Point I. Enter the vent.

Inside the vent, head right and hug the wall to your right. You'll eventually reach Map Point A which is a vent that leads to the Med Lab.

Exit this room and head straight. Enter the fourth door on your left to reach Map Point E. Inside is a dead body with Security Card #06.

Like I mentioned before, both doors to the Med Lab require Security Level 7 so you will have to crawl back through Airduct 4C after getting the card. Before heading back you, access any blue computer to restore your health to 50%.

10. Security Card #07

Security Card #07 is located at Map Point G on Sublevel 1 in the small room just south of the East Elevator.

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 1. Upon exiting the elevator, take the path to the left. When you hit the open area head right. Enter the small room and walk over the dead body to collect the card.

11. Flamethrower

Once you have Security Card #07 you will have access to the Armoury rooms containing Flamethrowers! There are two Flamethrowers: one at Map Point C on Sublevel 2 and another at Map Point N on Sublevel 4. Both are located close to the East Elevator on their respective Sublevels, so it's up to you which one you want to grab.

SUBLEVEL 2

The Flamethrower on Sublevel 2 is located at Map Point C. Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 2. When you exit the elevator take the path to your left. Enter the first door on your left. Go through the door on your left then enter the first door on your right. In the back of the room is a dead body containing a Flamethrower.

SUBLEVEL 4

The Flamethrower on Sublevel 4 is located east of the East Elevator at Map Point N. Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 4. After exiting, head right and enter the second door you come to. The Flamethrower will be in the second room on your right.

12. Security Card #08 (Optional)

Security Card #08 is located within the Alien Ship docked on Sublevel 5. In my opinion it's actually EASIER to get Security Card #09 so you might as well skip #08. But if you REALLY want to make the unnecessary trip...

Make sure you are fully stocked with health and ammo. You will need to take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) down to Sublevel 4 then make your way to the West Elevator (Map Point Y). When you exit the elevator, head left and enter the first door you see. Head straight until you hit the wall and then take the path on your right. Keep going straight until you see a door that says Med Lab. Instead of entering the Med Lab, take the path to the right and hug the wall on your left to reach the West Elevator.

Make your way to the airlock (Map Point A). After exiting the elevator head left then right then left.

Walk through the door and follow the path, hugging the wall on your right. Eventually you'll come to a large door, go through it and take the fork to your right.

The airlock as a large 'W' on it. Open the door, walk through, and then turn around and close it. Then open the next to enter the Alien Ship.

When you enter the Alien Ship, head left until you hit a wall then head left again. Take the first path on your right. All you need to do now is hug the wall on your left. At the very end of this path is a dead body containing Security Card #08.

13. Security Card #09

Note: I highly recommend getting both Security Card #09 and the Smartgun in the same trip. Otherwise you'll have to clear the same areas twice.

STEP 1: Getting Ready

First, you want to make sure that you are maxed out on both health and ammo. Save/Reload your game. You want to do two things: clear out the area near the East Elevator on Sublevel 3 and clear a path to the Armory on Sublevel 2.

STEP 2: Clear a path to the Predator Ship

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel)to Sublevel 1. When you exit, clear the room COMPLETELY of enemies. Don't bother opening the doors to the two small rooms, any foes inside will remain there.

When have cleared this room, exit via the door to the northwest that leads to the huge open area. Clear the top THIRD of this area of enemies. Take advantage of the exploding yellow barrels to help.

STEP 3: Resupply

Now head back to the East Elevator (Map Point Z) and take it back to Sublevel 3 to replenish your health and ammo.

STEP 4: Get the card

Now take the East Elevator (Map Point Z) back to Sublevel 1. Go back into the huge area and enter the airlock at the north end. Take the path to the left. Go through the orange door marked with a 'W'. This is the airlock to the Predator Ship (Map Point A). Once inside, turn around and close the door then open the next one to gain access to the Predator Ship.

Fortunately for you, there are few Predators spread throughout the ship and absolutely NO Aliens. The trick is to keep moving and only confront Predators when necessary. I recommend using the Pulse Rifle on them, the Flamethrower takes too much ammo to bring down a Predator (about half a tank) and it takes a whopping 30 Shotgun shells!

After entering the Predator Ship, head straight until you hit a wall, then head left. Head right at the fork and take the first path on your left. Security Card #09 is located on a dead body in the back of the room.

14. Smartgun

Note: I highly recommend getting both Security Card #09 and the Smartgun in the same trip. Otherwise you'll have to clear the same areas twice. I am going to assume that you have already made the preparations listed in steps 1-3 in the Security Card #09 section.

After obtaining Security Card #09, head back to Sublevel 1 and take the East Elevator (Map Point Z) to Sublevel 2. Head to the Armory and stock up on ammo. You'll now be able to enter the room containing Smartgun ammo! (You'll see why that's important later.)

Once you're fully loaded, take the East Elevator (Map Point Z) to Sublevel 1. Head for the airlock at Map Point A and enter the Predator Ship.

The Smartgun is located at Map Point D. From the entrance, head straight until you hit a wall then head left. Hug the wall to your right and follow this path until you reach the large room in the bow of the ship.

There is usually a lone Predator in this room, take him out with your Pulse Rifle. There is also a Med Kit, if you are low on health grab it NOW!

The Smartgun is located on the dead body in the far eastern part of the room. Too easy...right?

The clever Predators have set a trap. As soon as you grab the Smartgun, three of them will de-cloak and attack. To make matters worse, there is NO ammo in the Smartgun! If you didn't bring any with you, you'll have to quickly switch back to your Pulse Rifle to defend yourself.

BUT there is an easy way to beat the ambush. The Predators will remain cloaked and stationary until you grab the Smartgun...even if you are attacking them! The ambusher locations are marked on the map with exclamation points. Simply shoot them enough times (you'll see green blood when you connect) and they will die AFTER you grab the Smartgun! I guess they weren't so clever after all :p

15. Security Card #10

Collecting Security Card #10 is by FAR the most difficult part of the game. The card is located in the heart of the Alien Ship and is guarded by the Alien Queen herself!

You will need to cover a lot of ground and will be facing a slew of enemies. Don't be afraid to withdraw if necessary and restock your health and ammo.

Instead of entering the Med Lab, take the path to the right and hug the wall on your left to reach the West Elevator (Map Point Y).

Take the West Elevator to Sublevel 5, you want to make your way to the airlock (Map Point A).

You'll need to exercise extreme caution inside the Alien Ship. There are a lot of enemies and not so much ammo so make every shot count. It's also important to note that there are plenty of Eggs and Facehuggers around. If a Facehugger latches on quickly press left/right on the joypad to shake him off. You will be unable to fire your weapon while he's latched on, that can be disastrous if there are Aliens nearby. Try your absolute best to kill Aliens in places where you will be able to avoid the acid. It's a long hike there and back and those little saps to your health will quickly add up...

Security Card #10 is located at Map Point B in the heart of the vessel. At the entrance to the Alien Ship head left. At the fork head left then take the path on your immediate right. Go through this room into the next and take the left path at the fork. At the intersection take the path on your right then take the right path at the fork.

Hug the wall on your left. When you see a path branch off to your left, ignore it then take the left path at the fork. Keep moving forward and take the right path at the fork. You'll come to another fork, take the left path. Keep going then take the second path on your left. Hug the wall on your right for a LONG time.

When you reach the entrance to the Queen's Lair (Map Point D), equip your Smartgun. You're NOT going to use it on the Queen, she takes too much ammo to kill. Rush into the Queen's Lair and past the Queen spraying the area with bullets. The Queen's Lair is full of Eggs and Facehuggers and you'll need to take them out WHILE moving towards Map Point B in the back of the room on your left.

While it may be tempting to attempt the "Frozen Queen Bug" here, DON'T! ALL of the Aliens you killed will regenerate and you won't have enough health/ammo to make it to safety.

As soon as you grab the card, do a 180 and head back out, while avoiding the Queen. Once you're out of the lair, you're home free! Carefully make your way back to the entrance of the Alien Ship and safety.

16. Activate Self-Destruct Sequence/Escape Pod

This is it...the final task. All that's left to do is initiate the Self Destruct and escape in the Escape Pod. Use a computer terminal in the Command Center at Map Point I to activate the Self Destruct. You will then have only two minutes to reach the Escape Pod at Map Point G on Sublevel 5.

Before you activate the Self Destruct, you MUST clear the path from the Command Center to the Escape Pod (i.e. open all doors and kill all enemies).

Take the East Elevator (Map Point Z on any Sublevel) to Sublevel 5. Take the left path then hug the wall on your right. When you come to the fork, take the path on the left. Now follow the path to the end, killing all enemies and opening all doors you encounter. The Escape Pod is located at Map Point G. When you reach the Escape Pod, you will see a computer terminal on your right, THAT'S your final objective. You will use this screen to launch the Escape Pod AFTER you've activated the Self Destruct.

Now make your way back to the Command Center on Sublevel 2 (Map Point I). When you access a computer, you will see a new option: INITIATE EMERGENCY DESTRUCT. Activate it!

DO NOT SAVE ONCE THE SELF DESTRUCT HAS BEEN ACTIVATED! The instant you reload a saved game where the Self Destruct is active you will die, no matter how much time you had remaining when you saved.

Now hurry! Make your way back to the East Elevator and head straight to Sublevel 5. When you exit the elevator take the path to the left then hug the wall on your right. When you get to the fork take the left path and head straight for Map Point G. Once you reach the Escape Pod you must activate the computer before the timer hits zero. Once you bring up the menu the timer stops. Launch the Escape Pod and watch the short and ominous ending...
