Full Throttle

"Classic game that classically rocks (in more ways then one)"
A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, you know, 1994, San Rafael, California. The good people at Lucas Arts have given us many classic and great adventure games. After all, before this, they had released games like Sam & Max: Hit the Road and Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the Tentacle, so no one would doubt their mighty adventuring powers!
Plot: You're a biker, the leader of a bike gang called the Polecats. Wow, a game where you play the leader of a group (I know what you're thinking, how original). This cat, Ben (the biker guy you play), is your typical one-dimensional bad-ass rebel-without-a-cause, but with a twist. He's got a sense of humor. Its a dry humor, but that just makes it funnier.
Now, to the real plot. There is this old guy, named Corley, he owns the last American motorcycle company. His partner, Adrian Ripburger (he has a girl's NAME!) seem to be a pretty shady character (you love that guy already don't you?). Now Ripburger offers the Polecats an escorting job. Ben isn't really up for that. Anyway, to make a short story even shorter, the Polecats are heading for an ambush and Ben is left in a dumpster. To find out the rest...you should probably just play the game.
Gameplay: Its nothing new really, you click, you walk there. Just click on an item you want to look at, talk/taste/use mouth for something, punch/take, and kick, an icon will pop up if you hold down on the mouse clicker long enough (yeah, I know my technical terms are so advance, but keep up with me). To use items you might have picked up you either hit the ''i'' key, or hit the ''tab'' key if you're on your bike.
There are 2 mini-games in the game. One is fighting on the old Mine Road and the other is a demolition derby.
On the Mine Road, you'll run in to people, most are pretty easy to beat up, but some you need strategy (which is a lie, all you have to do is use a different weapon). The controls are, you press left or right on the arrow keys you go left or right, and the same for the mouse (yes yes, we all know the mouse doesn't have arrow keys, you move the mouse left or right). You either attack by clicking the mouse or hitting enter. And you switch weapons by hitting tab.
In the demolition derby, I suggest you use the arrow keys. It works just like a remote car. Press up, the car goes forward, you press left, your car spins left, right is opposite to left, and down is opposite to up. And the mouse does the same basic thing. This isn't rocket surgery people, I'm sure you can figure it out.
Challenge-The game itself isn't too hard. Some of the puzzles are very hard. If you get stuck you might want to use the magic of GameFAQs.com...you know...just saying. Some will take you forever, but most are pretty easy.
Length-Short. You can beat this thing in under an hour if you really rush yourself. But I suggest you don't. I suggest you go and play the game and look at everything, just to see what Ben would do. It really makes for a number of classic moments that you'll remember forever, that and catchy phrases you can use in everyday life.
Graphics-Yeah, you may think, just because its so far down on the list it either has bad graphics or I forgot to put this in earlier...well...it's neither! You hear me! I didn't forget nothing (was that a double negative? Oh well, you guys will never notice)! NOTHING! Its just that I don't think graphics make the games...yeah...that's it.
Anyway, to get to the point, they were revolutionary for the time! They pushed my old old OLD Mac to its limits...sad no? But it does look like a cartoon and the cut scenes are pretty good. Even though the pictures aren't really at all high resolution, but they get the job done.
Sound-Okay...I might have forgotten to put sound on here earlier, but anyway its here now!
The music is great. I have to admit, it was very groovy of the good people at Lucas Arts to get the Gone Jackels (I know what you're thinking, who?) to do the music. They used their album Bone to Pick as the soundtrack to Full Throttle. I suggest you buy it. It has this very classic hard rock feel to it, its really cool.
As for the sound effects. They did a pretty good job. Even though I've never really heard a motorcycle accident myself, I think what they did might be pretty close to the real deal. Too bad the sound quality isn't all that great. But heck, this was before MP3s and what have you. So I thought it was good enough.
Replay value- Like most of Lucas Arts' adventure games, there really isn't much of a reason to play this game again. If you went through and did all the little things to see what Ben would say or do, that's about it. I guess you could read the credits. And I suggest you do, but put on a CD or something, cause there is no music while the credits roll. Anyway, read the credits, that has to be the longest and one of the funniest ending credits I've ever read.
