Mission: Your mission is to serve the Demonlord and get him the shards
of the Onyx Crown.
(4.0) The Walkthrough
(=4.2=) Night 1
It is now time for the walkthrough. This is also known as, “The reason
why you’re here, dummy!”
You’ll start the game standing next to an empty coffin. Seeing the lid,
which slid off, we can only assume this is yours (Vera’s). You are in a
tiny room; go down.
Vera the Vampire: I have slept long, but Devin has slept even longer.
He was defeated a thousand years ago! What twist of fate could bring
him back?
Follow the hall to your left and learn a bit about Darkbugs.
Vera: Darkbugs feast on the flesh of the dead. Keep them to my front
and run at them so that I can strike them with my blades.
Battle is easy, especially now. You just run at the Darkbug. Go up, go
left, defeat the second Darkbug, go up and out of there. Talk to the
Necromancer. He will make you go immediately left to the next anchor to
pick up the bear trap. Then, go talk to him again. He will make you go
east, into a tomb to defeat a few Darkbugs. Go back and he will send
you south to conquer the Venom Weeds. They can spit bubbles at you, but
other than that, they are really easy.
=4.2= NIGHT 2
The Necromancer will send you east, to the maze. Go there.
At the entrance of the maze, go up until you come to the T. Go left all
the way, and then up some more. Go right, and keep going right until
you hit the wall. Then go down. Turn left to face the Darkbug with
wings. You need to defeat this creature to open the gate. He is
essentially just like every other Darkbug you have faced, save for his
wings. With them, he can fly up and try to land on you. He takes about
the same number of hits as regular Darkbugs, though.
Go left past the “Tree of Death” and collect the infamous “leaves of
the Tree of Death”. (Ha ha. Tree of Death, indeed. It looks like it’s
been sawed in half!)
From the entrance to the maze, go up, left, and then down. Go left and
up, then right. Then make your way northeast. Once you reach the
crossroads (a + sign) go up, down, left, up, right, and down. Grab the
gold. Go back to the crossroads and go right, down. Don’t go all the
way down. When you get the chance, go left, then go down, left, and
fight the Venom Weed.
There are 4 Venom Weeds. It is essential (or at least EXTREMELY
helpful) to use your Bear Trap. Remember that you can not lay down more
than one trap at a time. If you have one lain down already, when you
use it again, it will simply move.
Grab the gold and leave the maze. Return to the Necromancer.
Necromancer: These leaves will do and I have witch hair for thread. But
we lack a needle. Bring me the spine of the Crystal Bug. It lives in
the Abandoned Mine to the south gate.
Go south again. The gate, which was locked before, is now open. You
will be greeted by a Darkbug. There are three of them. Go up into the
tomb.
Go either left and down or down and left. Either way, go down again. Go
down some more and right for some gold. Then retrace your steps a bit
and go left. You will face a winged Darkbug. After engaging in battle
with it you will see that there are two winged Darkbugs and two regular
Darkbugs. You may need to use your Bear Trap.
Defeating these bugs will unlock the gate. Descend and follow the path.
You can either fight the winged Darkbug or just pass him up. Go through
the door.
There are two Crystal Bugs. They are exactly like Darkbugs in everyway
except for color. Defeat them and grab the spine of one of them.
Vera: I found the Crystal Needle.
There is a bag of gold. Grab if before leaving the acre northwise and
returning to the Necromancer.
Necromancer: Excellent. I can sew skin and this is not much different…
Here! The Veil of Shadows is ready. With it you can face the Earth
Wizard. His cave lies to the west. Slay him and take his shard!
Vera: The Veil of Shadows! When the mana bar is full, I can use it and
run through most of my enemies, cutting both flesh and soul!
And it’s all thanks to Necromancer’s super-speedy sewing powers. =)
Go west like Necromancer told you. There is a winged Darkbug outside of
the Earth Wizard’s cave. Enter the cave.
In the cave, there is a bag of 10 gold and a Blood vial. Make your way
through the easily-navigated cave.
Wizard: You are late, Angel of Darkness! The mighty warrior, Rento, has
already been here. He will assemble the Onyx Crown and defeat your evil
master once and for all!
The Earth Wizard can jump, sending out shockwaves when he lands.
Luckily he turns gray before he does this, so you’ll know when to
dodge. Use your Bear Trap.
Vera: Who is this Rento? How can it be that a mortal defies the
Demonlord and I, an immortal, must bow?
=4.3= Night 3
Necromancer: Rento? He is a low-born swordsman that set Devin free. Our
lord would have let him live, but the arrogant fool gave pursuit,
thinking he could undo his error. He has left for the marshes. You
cannot cross water so we cannot follow. We will strike at Wind Wizard
but for that we need the Talon Rope. It lies in the Troll Den in the
mountains. When you have the rope, continue to the Wind Wizard’s Cloud
Hall.
Go east. There is a new type of enemy in green. It will walk around,
then go angry-gorilla on your butt. IT is easy to lure him into the
Bear Trap, though, so that’s good. There’s also a bag of 10 gold in the
acre. Go up.
In this acre, you will find barren trees, vines clinging to the cliffs,
a series of ladders, and more of those obnoxious green enemies. Go up
the ladder farthest to the east to find 10 gold behind the tombstone.
Go up the easternmost ladder to fight another green enemy.
Go up the middle ladder. Ascend the ladder you find there. Go up the
left ladder to find gold. Go west to find more gold, and go DOWN the
ladder. In the southwest corner of this cliff, you will find Troll’s
Den.
The traditional dungeon music shall greet you as you enter this dank
place.
Go waaaaay to the left to grab a bag of gold. Likewise, go way to the
right to find another bag. Fight the green enemy to unlock the lock.
Going left past the lock, you will find a Venom Weed and a much-needed
Blood Vial. But taking the right path after the lock, you will find a
Skeleton monster. These skeletons can swipe at you with their clubs,
but otherwise they aren’t that tough at all.
Keep going and you will find the door.
Mossy Trolls: Cold woman! Cold snack! Ours!
(Now that they have been labeled as “trolls”, I shall refer to them as
thus.)
Battling the boss of Troll’s Dungeon, there are two mossy trolls and
one that is an extraordinary shade of green. Using your bear trap and
the beloved strategy of running away, this battle should be a cinch.
Pick up the Talon Rope.
Vera: I found the Talon Rope! If I throw it towards the enemy when the
mana bar is full, it will catch it and draw it to my blades!
Exit the Troll’s Den.
Vera: Cloud Hall lies north from here. I will use the rope to slay the
wizard, but his shard will be mine! If I must risk my unlife to get it,
it shall be my trophy and reward. Mine alone!
Remember that gated ladder you passed by on your way here? Return to
it. Upon ascending it you will have to ascend another ladder. This will
bring you into another acre.
Go up the cliff. After ascending two ladders there is a bag of 10 gold.
Grab it. Go to the very top of cliff and see my favorite screenshot of
the game. Look at the moon and the twinkling blue-and-white starts.
Then enter Cloud Hall.
Cloud Hall is another labyrinth. First of all, go left, then up, then
left again. Go up and fight the Venom Weed. Gaining experience should
be a concern of yours by now. Continue upwards, and then go right. In a
niche in the path is situated a bag of gold, a blood vial, and a Venom
Weed. Kill the ‘weed and grab the goods. Go even more to the right, and
then down to face yet ANOTHER Venom Weed. Go down and turn to the left.
Just above the entrance you’ll se a skeleton guarding a locked area.
Get ‘im. Then go up and fight ANOTHER skeleton. Then, go up and fight
ANOTHER skeleton!! This is all great for experience, so don’t feel too
angry about it. Now go up and through the door, and prepare to face the
Wind Wizard!
Wizard: So Devin sent his slave to do his dirty work for him. I will
cast you back beneath the clouds, but the fate Devin planned for you
was worse!
The Wind Wizard’s abilities include shooting out three of those
venomous bubbles that are so troublesome. Another troubling thing about
the Wind Wiz’ is that he doesn’t seem to come after you. Instead, he
seems to follow his own pattern. For this reason I recommend dodging
the bubbles and trying to slice at him from behind. The Veil of Shadows
may do major damage to him as well, but remember to dodge those
bubbles! When he starts to glow, that means run like crazy, foo’!
Once you have defeated the Wind Wizard, pick up the Onyx Shard.
Vera: I found an Onyx Shard!
No duh. =)
=4.4= Night 4
Necromancer: Our master suspects that you might be forgetting your
position! Your life was a gift, as easily withdrawn as it was granted!
We must reach the Fire Wizard before Rento. You need protection from
the fires of the Wasteland. There is a magical suit of armor in
Werewolf Glen far to the southeast. You must find it before dawn!
If you haven’t already, have Ghost curse your sword. Look at your map.
The orange square is where you need to get to.
Go south an acre, then east one. Follow along the path and you will
come across a skeleton. Go off the path and grab the bag of ten gold,
then continue along the path, defeating another skeleton. Once the path
ends, go south.
There are some skeletons in this area. Remember: Bear Trap = Goooood.
There Is also a bag of 10 gold. Although you can access the Wasteland
by going south, instead go east when you are finished here.
Welcome to Werewolf Glen. As the name suggests, this area is infested
with a plethora of moon-influenced baddies. They slash at you, but
that’s really it. Defeat the one by the gate to be able to access the
Dragonscale Shirt.
Vera: Threats and commands! They still treat me like a slave! The
Wasteland Gate lies just south of here. I will slay Fire Wizard myself
and force Devin to bargain for the shards!
There’s a bag of 10 gold in this acre to collect before you go
westward.
After going into the next acre, go south into the Wastelands. There are
new enemies that you will notice right away. They look like floating
fire genies. (I shall call them thus! *knights the genies*) They can
turn into fireballs and come after you. All you can do when this
happens is run. But they only take a few hits. There is also a blood
vial in this acre. After you’ve finished up here, go east.
It isn’t too difficult to find the Fire Wizard’s home. Twin flames are
shouldering the entrance, sending up smoke. Once you enter, go left and
down. Keep going down… down… left, and find a blood vial. You need to
defeat the Fire-Genies to unlock the gate. Go through the gate, and go
left… left… up, to find 10 gold. Fight the skeleton now to unlock the
gate.
Make your way to the door, which is in the very southwest corner.
Wizard: You have great power to have struggled this far. But you will
get no farther!
Like the Fire-Genies, the Fire Wizard can turn into flames. He throws
up his hands and then quickly transforms. A good item to use is your
Talon Rope.
Wizard: Cough… powerful indeed. Devin wants salves, not allies or even
servants. He will find someone easier to control and end your unlife.
He can only be slain by one wearing the Onyx Crown. You have one half,
Rento has the other. One must be crowned or all will die…
Go down to collect your second Onyx Shard. Then…
Devin: I see through your tricks, salve! To be a slave is to obey
without question! Your punishment is the death of your soul! At dawn,
the death of your flesh will follow.
=4.5= Night 5
Talk to the man above you.
Pegasus Rider: Thought you have a dark heart I have my reasons for
helping you. Devin nearly put an end to your existence. Now you must
feed to regain enough strength to face Devin again. There’s someone
with a soul darker than yours east of here, go and do what you must.
Until you do as Pegasus Rider says, your health will be 1/1. Luckily,
you don’t have to go very far; at the bottom of the acre immediately
east from the village is your prey. Yes, prey.
Bandit: Pretty girl out for a walk, heh heh… What? Oh no! Help! Help!
Vera: Fresh blood feels like fire in my veins!
Your health is now replenished.
Pegasus Rider tells you that you must make your way to the Blackened
Manor to the east, where you (Vera) died. If you talk to the
Necromancer you will find that he is angry with you for betraying
Devin. Talk to the Zombie, too. You gotta love him. Now start on your
journey by going east.
Once you hit the next acre, go east in a straight line. You will come
across a werewolf before you go into the next acre. Don’t even think
about passing him; for he is all alone, and as such, he is easily
conquered for valuable EXP.
Vera will get a little nostalgic when you continue, and spout off a
little. Then you can go about destroying the werewolves around the
manor. Besides werewolves, there is also a bag of 10 gold, and among
various old graves, a stray blood vial. Pass by the burnt-out char pits
and enter the Blackened Manor.
Go right, up, right up, and you will find a skeleton. There are four of
them. Have them all come at you in a group, and then assail them from
the front with your sword. Go right now, down the long hallway, and
fight the skeleton that is waiting for you, using the same strategy.
This will unlock the gate. Go down, to the right a bit, down some more,
and then left. You can see a bag of gold in the hall parallel to the
one you are currently standing in. Go and get it. Fight the werewolf
for experience and then explore the few surrounding hallways. You will
find a blood vial.
There is a red creature down in these depths. It can shoot fire at you,
and teleport as well. This makes using the Talon Rope on it pointless,
and it makes you feel stupid. This monster is guarding the last locked
gate to the door.
Now, your lost soul seems to think it would be a good idea to kill you.
Hopefully you can recognize this as a Grade A Bad Idea.
Once you engage in battle with her, Vera’s lost soul will charge at
you. Dodge it fast! You cannot attack your ectoplasm normally. You must
stun her with your Bear Trap to attack her.
Now that your lost soul has been defeated, it will merge with you, its
fleshy counterpart. You’ll get nostalgic again. Exit the manse and head
back to Pegasus Rider.
MAKE SURE YOU CONDUCT ALL BUSINESS BEFORE YOU SPEAK TO PEGASUS RIDER.
Talk to the villagers for new dialogue; have the Ghost curse your
blade; and buy blood from the witch. You don’t want to have to trek
back to town.
Talk to Pegasus Rider.
Vera: It is the cursed dawn, but this cannot wait. Fortunately, storm
clouds have darkened the skies!
=4.6= Dawn of the last day
Take out the nearby enemies. There is a bag of 30 gold. Yes, thirty!
You are by the Fire Wizard’s cave, but the nearby gate has now been
unlocked. Go into the new acre to find yourself by the Demon Citadel.
There are lots of enemies around. Experience is growing more and more
vital, so slay them all. Practice some strategies as well. When you are
ready, enter the Demon Citadel.
Welcome! to the most straightforward cave in the whole game! You kill
an enemy, you unlock a gate.
The first enemy is a Fire-Genie.
The second & third enemies are those red floating monsters you first
met in the Blackened Mansion.
The fourth & fifth enemies are werewolves.
Then, there are 2 blood vials. Take them and go to face Devin. It’s
time to open up a can of whoop-ass.
There he is! The person that you have heard so much about: Rento. Talk
to him, and he will ask you for the remaining two shards of the Onyx
Crown that you possess. Just then, Devin will appear.
You will collect the last two Onyx Shards. Now, you have the Onyx
Crown.
Go at Devin!!
Devin’s powers and abilities: He will glow purple, surround himself
with motes, and fly about. Don’t go near him while he does this. THE
BEAR TRAP HAS NO EFFECT ON DEVIN THE DEMONLORD. You probably won’t
really need it anyway. He’s an easy boss.
You won.
(5.0) The End?
Vera: Devin is dead and the crown is broken. Hah! I need no trinkets to
lay claim to his throne! Pity that Rento has fled. He did crown me
queen of all evil and I would have given him immortality with a kiss.
