This is a non-official FAQ/Walkthrough for Akumajou Dracula (MSX). Although
author knows video games from the old Atari generation, MSX remains a stranger
to me. It seems that Gamefaqs is also unfamiliar with it. The proof is the NES
version of Castlevania has so many hits, but this?? MSX actually was made by
Microsoft who makes one of the (great) next-gen consoles and platforms!
The only reason author makes it is the FAQ Completion project.

This document is best viewed with the original display on the net, or with a
word processor using fixed-width font style, such as courrier series or lucida
console. Using some other font styles (example: Arial) will make the tables/maps
displayed incorrectly.

This FAQ/Walkthrough contains the basic story and all technical informations
inside this game if you want to master this old game. If this means spoiler to
you, then don't read this document.

Lastly, some **** legal notice: This document is protected by copyright law and

PROLOGUE. CASTLEVANIA SERIES NOTE

This game was claimed to be the first Castlevania ever. Either you believe it or
not, but the quality is (really) unbalanced with the popular releases.
The Vampire Killer name is rather ironic, [The brave young man] can't be the one
because he is too lame to face the mighty Dracula and co. Many others should
have better chance to get the "Vampire Killer" title IMO, such as Soma Cruz,
Richter,....
BTW, some non-official source says that Vampire Killer is the name of Belmont
family's whip.

Castlevania series seems to be quite alive at the moment, with plans for future
titles, different with author's previously tried MegaMan series that seems to be
quiet at the moment. Author wonders what makes the difference?

A. CONTROLS

This game is old enough, so things are pretty simple.
There is no in-game menu.

For the controlling purpose, there are 2 interfaces you can use: MSX keyboard
and gamepad (similar to NES gamepad).
F1 = Pause the game.
F2 = See the (crappy) map.
Up = Jump, ascend staircase.
Spacebar = Confirm, attack.
Down + Up = Access sewer in stage 12.
Jump + Left/Right = Holy water (If you have it).
Jump + Down = Hour glass.

With gamepad, A button can be used to jump besides the Up directional button.

B. RULES

This game is just a standard classic action/adventure game.
1. You lose health if you touch the enemies and enemies' attack.
2. You gain temporary invincibility and push-back after being hit. The enemies
does not get them.. seriously, they get them a little.
3. You have 3 lifes, and that's ALL you have.
4. If you lose life, you also lose all your weapons and items, the candle loses
effect, and prices are back to normal. Your heart is back to 5.
5. If you complete a block, you lose all your weapons and items, prices are
back to normal, the candle loses effect but you keep your heart amount and your
map. Plus, your health is refilled.
6. Moving back and forth a screen does not make the candles respawn, but the
enemies are respawn. The merchants are still in his previous state.
7. The random prize after beating enemies is just heart or money bag.
8. There are enemies which continously appear from a source place. Let's call
this regular enemies.
9. If you get red book then white book, then the effect will be replaced, and
vice versa.
10. You can only have one kind of shield: Red or tan shield.
11. You can lose your tan shield if it blocks too many attacks.
12. An item will disappear if you do not collect it for several seconds.

C. GENERAL TIPS

1. WARNING: This game is really difficult, and it's not as [charming] as the NES
or X68000 version (at least it's what The Author sees) --Ahem..do you think that
this [The Author] stuff looks cool or sumthin'?--
You'll NEED a highly comprehensive strategy and memorizing nosy things. If you
can't stand those, cheating devices are recommended.

But, there is a trick to make this task easier (but it's still not that easy),
and thus make this game more playable, as you can see on the Cheats section. If
you have problems with them, you can see another explanation at Vgmuseum.

2. It's IMPORTANT to march forward cautiously (if there are no regular enemies
around). You are not timed.
3. It's good to preview the stage first (hopefully you feel convenient with my
hand-made map) and plan what to do.
4. You may need to pay attention to [The Brave Young Man]'s movement. He is slow
and he has NO air maneuverability.
5. Notice the source of regular enemies and approach it to make the flow stops
(of course this does not work for fish men).

1. This walkthrough contains full strategy from moi (beware that it is rather
nosy).
This game has been very old already and many people should have forgotten it by
now, even for FAQers! For prove: Nobody make a single complete FAQ/Walkthroughs
for old Castlevania titles, but there are so many FAQs available for the
next-gen titles. But, for the first release ever of a great series, author
thinks it deserves a full strategy.
Besides, the castle in this game is actually 2D mazes, and the difficulty is
so.....
This strategy is what author thinks is the best if you want to master this game.
Author don't think many people will be seeing this, this document is only made
for the sake of the FAQ completion project.
2. The enemy names author uses here are at section E. Enemy List. Please refer
there.

List of items and what each of them does:

1. Chain whip.
An upgrade to vampire killer whip. Located at weapon frame.

2. Axe.
A throw weapon. Powerful, but short-ranged. It will be lost if you fail to catch
it. Located at weapon frame. When you get another weapon, you will lose your old
weapon!

3. Blue cross.
A throw weapon. Not as powerful as the axe, but long-ranged. It will be lost if
you fail to catch it. Located at weapon frame.

4. Dagger.
A throw weapon. Not powerful, but you do not have to catch it to keep this
weapon.

5. Small key.
You can only keep this item one at a time. The first key you (should) see around
is this key. Located at the key frame, left side. Refer to screenshot #5 or #6.
It's used to open treasure chest.

6. Cane.
You can only keep this item one at a time too. When you have this item, you
can't collect any small keys, but you can collect another cane with the effect
replaced (i.e. can open three more treasure chests). Located at the key frame,
left side.
It's used to open 3 treasure chests.

7. White key.
Bigger key white coloured. Located at the key frame, right side.
It's used to open doors.

8. Holy water.
A throw weapon. Located at the rightest frame, left side. The black fire it
creates is really really powerful. Costs 5 hearts.

9. Tan shield.
Blocks enemies' attack. Located at the rightest frame, middle-left side.

10. Red shield.
Reduces damage upon contact with the shield. Located at the same place with tan
shield.

11. Hour glass.
Stops time. Located at the rightest frame, middle-right side. Costs 5 hearts.

12. Map.
Shows map when F2 button is pressed. Located at the rightest frame, right side.
You can only use this item 3 times.

13. Blue orb.
Makes you invisible for a short time.

14. Red orb.
Heals you a little bit.

15. Blue ring.
Makes you invincible for a short time. Kills all enemies upon contact.

16. Tan cross.
Kills all enemies on-screen.

17. Grey cross.
Stops regular enemies from coming for a short time.

18. White book.
Decrease item's prices. The effect lasts until you die or finish a block.

19. Red book.
Increase item's prices. The effect also lasts until you die or finish a block.

20. Candle.
Highlights destroyable walls.

21. Boots.
Makes you run faster for the rest of the stage.

22. Wings.
Makes you jump (slightly) higher for the rest of the stage.

23. Blue potion.
Only available from the merchants. Healls you fully.

This walkthrough contains a simple map. Maybe too simple for some of you, but
that took some pretty efforts from me.

This is pretty straightforward. just press space bar in your keyboard then your
game will begin.
You will arrive at the castle's outside. Nothing here, just whip the fires on
your way. Now you should have 12 hearts and a chain whip.

A. STAGE 1

Treasure data:
1. Up left of the map highest platform = boots
2. Up left of the map middle platform = red shield
3. Before white key = big heart
4. The only treasure on the screen right from above treasure = wings

Firstly, go forward all the way until you get the small key (marked by k). Don't
forget to whip all the candles on your way (and collect the prizes, of course).
Then, ascend the only staircase and the next to reach upper area. Climb the only
staircase there and don't forget to whip all the candles.
Ascend the only staircase to get the middle treasure (Is it moi or these
treasures are really similar to window?), then drop down to get the small key.
Then descend the stairs below candle ce, collect the treasure (wings) and get
the white key hidden in the wall. Don't forget to whip all the candles here.
Preceed to the door to advance to the next stage.



B. STAGE 2

Treasure data:
1. The only at the upper side of the map = map
2. Just before the door inside the bottom wall = boots
3. Next from the above treasure = hour glass
4. In this same screen, you can see this treasure clearly above the wall = white
book

Merchant data:
1. You can see it when you enter this stage
-Whip 1x sell blue potion. Normal cost 40 hearts. Increased cost 80 hearts.
Decreased cost 15 hearts.
-Whip 2x 3x +5 hearts.
2. In this same screen, inside the bottom wall (see the map below)
-Whip 1x -5 hearts/no effect.
-Whip 2x +5 hearts
-Whip 3x sell tan shield. Normal cost 20 hearts. Increased cost 80 hearts.
Decreased cost 10 hearts.
3. At upper area inside the breakable wall
-Whip 5x sell holy water. Normal cost 30 hearts. Increased cost 80 hearts.
Decreased cost 10 hearts.
-Whip 6x +5 hearts.

Ignore the upper area and break the walls for big hearts and keys. Descend the
stairs afterwards.
Whip all the candles, but ignore ce if you can. Better if you ignore the item I
as well.
If you do the General Tips number 5 above, then you should be able to jump to
the low platform. Then jump whip the wall to reveal the white key. You can jump
to this platform directly also through the above platform.
After ascending the only stairs in this area, collect the treasure above first
(white book) and whip the candle cf to restore some health.
OR, if you are low in health, you may see the merchant and buy the blue potion
for 15 hearts (if you follow this walkthrough well).
Don't forget to claim all the treasures and keys in this area.



C. STAGE 3

Treasure data:
1. You can see it clearly when you enter this stage = tan shield
2. Before the white key = blue ring
3. In this same screen at the left side of the merchant separated by wall = hour
glass
4. Before bos door up side = tan cross
5. Before bos door down side = red shield

Merchant data:
-Whip 1x sell blue cross. Normal cost 20 hearts. Decreased cost 10 hearts.
Increased cost 80 hearts.
-Whip 2x 3x 4x +5 hearts/no effect.

If you do well not to die in this block (which you should be), go left from the
first screen and whip the wall to get the white key.
Descend the stairs below c2 and get ready to fight the boss.

BOSS: VAMPIRE BAT

If you follow this walkthrough well enough, you should have the chain whip and
the hour glass with you.
Use them well, with an efficient use, you shouldn't waste so much hearts and win
this battle.
Before collecting the pounding item, you should whip all the candles around.

D. STAGE 4

Treasure data:
1. This can be accessed easily if you go right from where you start = map
2. The only treaure at the up right side of the map = red shield
3. First treasure you can access left from here = axe
4. The next treasure in this same screen = hour glass
5. Below door = white book

1. Go left all the way from start
-Whip 1x sell cane. Normal cost 30 hearts. Increased cost 60 hearts. Decreased
cost 20 hearts.
-Whip  2x 3x 4x 5x 6x +/-5 hearts/no effect.
2. Around candle cb with the knight
-Whip 1x 2x +/-5 hearts.
-Whip 3x sell blue potion. Normal cost 40 hearts. Decreased cost 15 hearts.

The difficulty here is raised significantly from the previous block. Watch the
trap candles first: c3, c7, ca, cb, especially where there are regular enemies
go back and forth: ca.
First go left and jump pass the armor (if you can), otherwise whip candle ce
quickly and punish it(?) or pass it.
Save candle cc for now and get the small key by ascending the only stairs. Whip
all the candles, and get the treasure for a red shield.
Fall down the left hole and go to the left screen for the small key.
You need to kill the armor around to ascend the stairs safely. "Touch" it once
or twice should be no problem (because it's hard).
Go left and ignore all the candles and the right treasure chest. There are
medusa head hordes to disturb you. Mwahahaha. Open the left treasure chest and
collect hour glass. Go left.
Whip all the candles on your way, get the small key, and the treasure for a
white book.
Fall down the left hole and whip the left wall for white key.
Go left again and all the way to the door. Now you can whip candle cc (and) c9
if you saved them earlier to replenish some health.



E. STAGE 5

Treasure data:
1. The first treasure you can see clearly = blue ring
2. When you see 2 treasures in the same screen, the bottom one = holy water
3. The above one = score 5000

Merchant data:
The only merchant in this stage
-Whip 5x sell hour glass. Normal cost 40 hearts. Increased cost 80 hearts.
Decreased cost 20 hearts.
-Whip 6x +5 hearts.

You may memorize the trap candles, but the more convenient way is: you only
need to whip candles where there are no medusa head waves around the screen:
c6, c7, ci, c5 (if you can).
In the first two screens, there are medusa head waves everywhere. If you have
difficult time with them (which you should be), use the hour glass.
I don't think you need to collect any treasures around. Holy water is a better
weapon, but the usage is inconvenient.
Once you collect the grey cross, quickly ascend the stairs and go to the right.
Don't forget to collect the white key behind the wall.

Go left via the upper platform, and go and jump left QUICKLY with pressing down
button across the floating platforms. This is hard to do. If you do not die
until now (which you should be), you can try more because you have more hearts.

Successfully passing this difficult session making you go safely (well, not
really really) to reach the door to the next stage.



F. STAGE 6

Treasure data:
1. You have to whip this wall to continue = blue ring
2. Can be clearly seen in the same area = chain whip

Merchant data:
1. Near bone pillar (see map below)
-Whip 5x sell dagger. Normal cost 50 hearts. Decreased cost 30 hearts. Increased
cost 90 hearts.
-Whip 6x +5 hearts.
2. Right side of the map behind a wall
-Whip 1x sell blue potion. Normal cost 40 hearts. Decreased cost 15 hearts.
Increased cost 80 hearts.
-Whip 2x 3x +5 hearts.

You need to whip the thick ground way right until you find the white key. Get
it. If you feel troubled by skull heads chasing for you, you can whip c1 to get
blue ring first, then quickly do the next task.
In the next screen, the trap is not lethal like usual, but getting squished by
it will consume some pretty health.
In the next screen, ignore the merchant (you may have low amount of heart right
now). But be sure to get the chain whip from some candle next.
Go right via the upper platform, but beware the trap candles.
Buy blue potion from the merchant (you should need it). Whip him twice more for
hearts.
Next session is pretty straightforward. Get the grey cross from the candle
around so that you can cross next screen safely. Optional: whip candle ce.

BOSS: MEDUSA

If you follow this walkthrough to buy the blue potion, this boss should be easy.
Just whip it around, or if you are doing it bad enough, there is still some hope
for you to whip candle ck for a red orb.

G. STAGE 7

Treasure data:
1. The first treasure you can see, but you can't access immediately = red book
2. Left-middle area of the map = map
3. Above the white key = red shield
4. When you are up on the high platform in the middle of the map, drop down the
right pit, and it's below candle ch = axe
5. This is the treasure on the high platform to the left (this treasure should
be impossible to get) = tan shield

Merchant data:
1. You'll see him high up when you first arrive here
-Whip 1x sell candle. Normal cost 20 hearts. Increased cost 60 hearts. Decreased
cost 15 hearts.
-Whip 2x 3x 4x +5 hearts/no effect.
-Whip 5x 6x -5 hearts/no effect.
2. The only merchant up there

There is no healing item in this whole block, so your full health bar is for the
following three stages.
There is no regular enemy for this whole stage, this means you have to keep
cautious for this stage. Besides you have enemies to hunt you, you also should
avoid getting the red book and touching the slimes.
There are two fleamen at the next screen. Find the correct spot to hide (just
to the right from the floating platform). Duck and attack.
If you want to conserve your heart, you do not need to buy the candles because
you already have this guide (if you (can) use it well), but accessing the screen
(with c2-c6 inside) is fine, you just wait there where you start until all the
enemies are gone. Then, you are free to cautiously collect the items.
The rest of the stage is about the same. There are fleamen, throwing-bone-
skeletons, and ravens around. It's very hard to avoid all of their attacks, so
getting hit s few times by bones is tolerable. Raven's movement is similar to
the NES version, just it flies around continuously in this game.
Don't forget to take the white key inside the right wall.
After you reach the high platform in the midle of the map, take the upper
platform with the small key on it, then in the next screen, just wait for the
skeleton to fall down the pit, then continue to the door.



H. STAGE 8

Treasure data:

Take care of all the slimes (you'd better don't touch them) and collect the
small key and the blue ring, then quickly go right, collect c2 and c3's item
and quickly go to the next screen. That way you should avoid all of the medusa
heads.
*cautious mode on again*
I suggest you to buy the tan shield for 20 hearts (if you are careful enough to
avoid the red books).
In the screen with bone pillar and raven, drop down the second pit. If you
think you are good enough or need more hearts, you can whip candle cf, but you'd
better to go right, drop down the left pit and get the white key. But, notice
the right pit. If you are still in good shape, you can get the dagger inside the
treasure hidden behind the right wall (But, you'd better save a small key before
going to the next stage).
Repeat the process to fall down the right pit, but you also need to jump down
far to the right, whip the block and quickly advance thru the door.

Firstly, notice c4 and c5: the only candles to whip while there are medusa heads
flying around hunting after you.
Collect the treasure that has blue ring inside and go quickly to the next
screens, only whipping c4 and c5. You should be able to arrive inside the room
safely with minor hits if you do this correctly (The only way to get inside the
room session is whipping the wall which has a small key inside).
But, you need to go upstairs and deal with the bones, then drop down the right
narrow pit to get the white key.
It's best to get the only treasure inside this screen (if you have plenty of
hearts to spend) and also whip as many candle as you can, starting from c6.

BOSS: MUMMY MEN

If you follow this walkthrough, you should have tan shield and holy water with
you. Attacking them with holy water and defending with tan shield is the
quickest and safest way to victory.

There are regular enemies everywhere around this stage. If you are not careful,
you can be knocked down by some of them, and the worst part of it is: You can
fall down the ..ocean.. below and lose your life, remember that you only have
three of them?
If you happen to lose life, you can ascend the stairs between c4 and c5 to fill
up your heart ammount.
The good news is there is no trap candle in this whole stage, so you can whip
the candles freely!

First, go left and grab the small key, then go back and quickly whip candle c1
to get the blue ring, but you also have to time it so that the moving platform
is near enough to your position, so that you can cross the gaps safely.
It's also better to whip the floating candle c2 and get the prize too.
Get the chain whip inside the first treasure and then you can go upstairs if you
are low on heart, otherwise go on right to continue with the game.
Remember that while you are across the watery gap, DUCK for your safety (The
ceiling is low, please see the map above).
Next after you go up the only stairs, you can't jump and do not jump either to
the ground below (because you can't reach it) or to the moving platform (bacause
you will fall MIRACULOUSLY, don't trust me? then try it yourself). See
screenshot #4.
So, you should walk to fall down the moving platform and reach the ground to
(temporary) safety. Otherwise, touching the red fish man while facing left also
results in crossing the wide gap.
Next, you should collect the white book inside the treasure chest and duck again
to cross the watery gap.
Next, go up to the higher platform, but before you go upstairs, go to the right
screen first to collect the white key.
Advance through the door.



K. STAGE 11

First, as always, learn all the trap candles: This time, it's pretty good to
memorize. the first and the last screen with the door.
When you see the first pile of bricks, first whip the upmost block to get the
white key. Then, you can clear all the treasures (Rather tricky to figure out,
whip the 3 blocks with treasures first, jump up to the block with heart inside,
jump left to get the small key, and collect the cane first).
And, you shouldn't buy candle if you understand what I'm writing about.
The next screens are full of fleamen swarm, so you should be quick. To get the
goodies you may want to go back and forth the screen.
It's important to get the treasure up there first if you want to get red shield.
This task is actually somewhat optional, if you already have tan shield, it's
also quite well to leave the red shield alone, but I'd prefer that red shield.



L. STAGE 12

This stage is really a breeze if you know what to do. There is no regular
enemies around, so take your time.
Firstly, go left and grab all the goodies, whip the white dragon from behind
(Yes, the trick is it's fine to touch the body part of the white dragon unlike
the NES version) and access sewer A to rob all the goodies. Repeat the process
for sewer B.
Next, enter sewer C.
If you really have cleared all the goodies, you should be able to get the tan
cross inside the treasure chest. Go left all the way to rob all the goodies,
then enter sewer D.
As soon as you arrive at your destination, go to the left screen. Get all the
goods if you want. Enter sewer E when you finish.
If you still have key left with you, whip the left wall for invisibility, you
should be able to take care of the white dragon, but NEVER whip the block on
your right, because it's the only foothold to get the white key hidden in the
block up high there! (You'll have to lose your life if you do so..)

BOSS: FRANKENSTEIN & IGOR

If you get (and use) holy water from stage 11, this battle will be quick.
Remember that you can't damage the creature that's jumping around and shooting
fireball at you. You can only damage Frankenstein.
If you do not get holy water, try to get the blue cross.

This block actually is easy, there are no regular enemies to bug you around and
there are plenty of health refill.
First of all, see if there is any red books around, and try to avoid them
(especially if you want to buy any items).
Please see the merchant data above if you want to buy any items as long as you
have enough heart amount with you. All of them are good except the cane... and
holy water (it's a hard task anyway because you will touch the red skeleton many
times in such a narrow spaces, but no, it's not if you buy the dagger).
You shouldn't die on the previous stage, this should make your heart is enough
to buy one or two items.
You are lucky you are not bothered by bone rain like some other versions. Notice
the red skeleton above. If you have played the other versions and can go this
far, you can see that it's now more speedier. No, your whip is not as long as
the one displayed on the box cover, so you should have a hard time to deal with
it with an unenhanced whip.

After taking care of this creature, go upstairs and go left first to collect the
white key then continue your way until the path splits into two. It's up to you
where to go, but I'd recommend you to take the right path and take the stairs
above.
Advance your way to the next stage.



N. STAGE 14

Treasure data:
1. When you see candle c7, drop down the pit below it, you can see a treasure
to your right = axe
2. From this point, jump to the upper-left platform and go left one screen = red
shield
3. When you see the above treasure, look around. The treasure you can see = blue

If you do not buy/use any items, you should need some health refill from the
candle/treasure. In order to do this, you need to explore all parts of this
stage.
Some of the candles have enemies hidden inside, but you can be cautious without
being afraid of regular enemies.
There are some keys in this stage, but it seems that they are not enough if you
want to obtain all the treasures. So, you need to choose wisely. If you ask me
which one, then I'd recommend to pick red shield and red orb only.

To explore all parts of the castle, you need to drop down a narrow pit after
going downstairs instead of going left, there will be more rooms. After finish
taking all the goods, drop down the narrow pit to be brought back to the place
if you go left earlier.
The tan cross you pick around will make the merchants die instantly and the red
skeletons perish permanently.
The next part should be starightforward.



O. STAGE 15

There are plenty of red books around, you may avoid them if you need something
from the merchants.
Before the boss door, you will see a narrow pit. You'll need to drop down this
pit, but you need to learn general tips number five above to be able to pick the
white key without many risky tries.
Dropping down this pit without jumping results in landing on the middle floating
platform between two treasures.

BOSS: DEATH

This boss is easy if you can figure out its attack pattern. In fact it's just
about the same with the NES/FDS version: Flying around with its scythes
appearing suddenly and chasing you slowly (seems to be even slower this time).
If this boss really bothers you, you can whip the candles around for some health
refill.

1. Go downstairs from starting point to see this treasure in clear sight = cane

3. Go left from above point, and drop down the pit. You'll see two treasures.

This stage is tough and have potential to deplete your lifes. There are three
white keys to confuse all of you. If you see a white key on your way standing
on the bottom platform, it's a TRAP, so don't try to take it.
Here, moi offer you two ways to complete this stage:

Plan A
If you are short on heart or really sure about your techniques, just take the
upper path only, but first descend the staircase to collect some goodies.
You need to pass three Vampire Bats successfully without any power-ups! Moi
don't see a certain strategy to pass them. But, usually the enemy will shoot
fireball at you and you jump pass it and run quickly (You shouldn't think to
kill it with 16 shots of your weak weapon, right?).

Plan B
Much safer plan, but you need some good heart amount (twenty/twenty five is the
MINIMUM requirement, but you should safe a few more to buy things at the next
stage, and even more to guarantee your success toward the castle's master).
After clearing the goods as well as the small key near the starting point, whip
candle b4 and get what's inside, and run quickly to the left. In the end,
collect the treasures and the white key.
You'll pass 5 big bats with this idea, and use the hour glass at the right time
to pass them.
The bats in the bottom area starts high, this means problem. Try to jump pass it
when it charges at you. The bats in the upper area starts low, this is
advantageous.

For an even more safer plan, you can try the upper path with the cane with you,
so that if you fall, there is still hope that you land on a foothold at the area
below, but this will need even more hearts, and even more if you don't/can't
jump the blue ring treasure.



Q. STAGE 17

Treasure data:
1. From the starting point, ascend the stairs to the upper screen and go left,
you'll see it guarded by an axe armor = hour glass
2. If you take the upper platform instead, it'll be beside the left wall = score
5000
3. To the left from a merchant in the downside area of the map = red shield
4. From this point, go to the left screen. You can access to this treasure
directly = map
5. Check the wall on the left of the above treasure = white book
6. You can see a treasure high up there at the left side. You should break the
blocks down there first to access this one safely = blue cross
7. When you are on the area with the money bag treasure, ascend the stairs
nearby. You can access this one immediately = tan shield
8. This treasure is still in the same screen, high up there on the wall = boots
9. This is on the high platform you can't access directly (not as high as the
previous one) = blue ring
10. From this same point, break the left wall and go to the left screen to
access a lone treasure within the blocks = big heart
11. This treasure is nearby, but not accessible = blue cross
12. From this place, go to the right again and access all the staircases to a
new area at the upmost part of the map. It's inside the block formation = cane
13. Break the blocks with big hearts inside and the one with the slime inside.
Then, break the block to the right side of it = tan cross

Merchant data:
1. He's in the downside area of the map, behind the blocks
-Whip 5x sell holy water. Normal cost 30 hearts. Decreased cost 10 hearts.
Increased cost 80 hearts.
-Whip 6x +5 hearts.
2. He's behind the wall to the right from tan shield treasure
-Whip 1x sell dagger. Normal cost 50 hearts. Decreased cost 30 hearts. Increased
cost 90 hearts.
-Whip 2x 3x 4x +5 hearts/no effect.
-Whip 5x 6x -5 hearts/no effect.
3. He's in clear sight above the block formation with a treasure chest inside
-Whip 1x sell blue potion. Normal cost 40 hearts. Decreased cost 15 hearts.
Increased cost 80 hearts.

4. He's in clear sight when you see a long upward stairs and a huge gaps to the

All the candles are inside areas with no regular enemies. This should be a good
news because we can anticipate what's inside a candle.
As you may notice, there are only a few keys around, but there are so many
treasures, you can't open them all, but choose them wisely, and if you read this
guide well enough, you can preview them all and choose what's the best.
Recommended: red shield/tan shield, hour glass (if you don't get it earlier),
dagger or blue cross, and boots.
You should save as many hearts as possible for the master of this evil castle,
so don't buy unnecessary things (Blue potion if you are low on health, and
dagger if you have too many hearts to spend or if you can buy it for low price).
There are two white keys inside the stage. The one in plain sight is a trap,
thus it's unobtainable, so you should seek the other one. It's inside bottom
wall under where you start. But before you do this, prepare your weapon first!

Right after getting the white key, whip the piles of block above the hidden
merchant to get a way out (you need long-range weapon to do this). The next part
should be fine.
The map above has a little error. In the area where the last merchant is, you
can't fall from the high platform that has the key on it to the ground. So, you
have to go right a screen, jump to the middle platform, adjust your jump so that
you reach the left foothold.



R. STAGE 18

Treasure data:
1. The first treasure you can see on your way = cane
2. The second treasure, with two fleamen. Accessed from left stairs = blue orb
3. From this point, ascend the stairs and you see a treasure chest high up
there, as well as one on the lower platform. To get acces to this one, you need
to go left a screen, and fall the left-most pit = red orb
4. If you fall the middle pit carefully = blue ring
5. Instead of falling the pits, just jump the platforms carefully to the top
with a treasure chest = boots
6. Instead of going to final boss door, go right a screen or fall from the
stairs above it = score 5000

Merchant data:
1. Near the starting point
-Whip 5x sell dagger. Normal cost 50 hearts. Decreased cost 30 hearts. Increased
cost 80 hearts.

The final stage! As usual, beware of the trap candles. You can collect all of
the treasures if you want, but there is no necessity to do that.
Until collecting the treasures you want (wisely), ascend the staircase from
treasure chest with boots inside, or fall down a pit around the final treasure
chest to get the white key.
The rest of the path is straightforward, until you reach the boss door.

FINAL BOSS: DRACULA

- Dracula

The first appearance of dracula has terrifying appearance (some of you should
thank the graphics is still primitive), with bloodied(?) face and the body only
consists of bones!
Dracula appears at random place and shoots three fireballs at you, but it seems
that this creature's movement is more predictable...IMHO..compared to the
NES/FDS version.
Just move left then attack, right then attack while avoiding/whipping the moving
fireball. The vulnerable point is only at the body part and head.

That's not a big deal, right? Then the evil manifests in the big photograph of
the castle master self.
The more hearts you have, the better chance of victory you will have (of course
if you still have the hour glass with you).
Your safety is only guaranteed when you are on the bottom edges of the screen.
Can you see something colorful in its forehead? That will be your aim.
If you only have your whip with you, jump to the edge of the middle block and
whip. Otherwise, you can try to whip from the upmost block, but you should watch
for your timing.

Phew...... after all the test of patience, [The Brave Young Man] are eventually
victorious against the evil dracula. We shall wish that any evil incarnations
will never awake! BTW, who is this brave young man?

What?! After all this tiring work, we still get more works to do?!
You are back in front of dracula's castle with stage 19. The only change author
sees is the enemies are moving slightly faster. A little change that's potential
to make gamers like moi even lazier to go further.
When you defeat the Dracula once again, this game doesn't have anything to offer
you anymore.
