Donkey Kong 64
Review by Gyarados
"Sorry to say this, but it was a dissapointment to me"
You may be thinking: How can you give this game only a 6? Well, if you won't let me tell you, I can't. Going on, I thought it was a dissapointment. You know those other reviews where the reviewer gives you stupid reasons sometimes to why he/she gave the sequel a 1? Well, I won't give stupid excuses like the fact that it didn't have the old music or something. Here is my review:
Story: Basically K. Rool (will he ever give up?) steals your Golden Bananas. His plan is that while you are trying to get all of them, he makes a Blast-O-Matic to destroy Donkey Kong island or something. I think that's kind of clever, using the old create-a-diversion-then-surprise-them attack. Not exactly original. 6/10
Graphics: They're pretty good, but on some parts, everything is made of geometrical shapes. The Kongs look good. Don't know what else I can say. 8/10
Originality: People said it was just like Banjo Kazooie. I haven't played that game, but I heard you also collect things there. Why couldn't they give the game a better name at least? Like ''Donkey Kong World'' or something? There has been land, and country. I just don't like it that some games are named ''(insert popular franchise or game here) 64'' 4/10
Gameplay: Now this is the part where Rare screwed up this time. What you do is collect things. Lots of things. The levels aren't like you have to get to the end like in the old games. You just collect things. But don't worry. At least you earn more after you do. Sure some of the minigames are fun. There are also some Mine Cart Rides. YES! I love Mine Cart rides! It was kind of boring. 6/10
Music/Sound: The music is pretty good in here. But I still liked the old one better. Of course, that's just an opinion. The sound is good too. 8/10
Ending: Ah, the ending! Yes, collecting can be boring and frustrating sometimes, but I assure you it's worth it. You get 2 secret endings this time! Not 1 like in the old ones! So if you manage to find absolutly
everything in the game (I HIGHLY suggest you use a strategy guide), be proud of yourself! You will get 3 total endings. 1 if you just beat the game. 9/10
Difficulty: Ooh, very hard. Some mini-games are hard (there is one I did which took me 100 tries), and some are easy. I really don't know what to say. But you could say the collecting is hard. I'll just give it 10/10.
Replay: It is good. I beat it on 101% twice by now, and I've had this for about 9 months. I don't play it often anymore. The Replay time would be about 100 hours without a strategy guide.
Rent or Buy? I would recommend you to rent this first. But don't go thinking you can just go home and beat it in 5 days on 101%. But if you rent and like it, I guess you should buy it then. I am thinking now, and I think that I am glad to buy it, but it's just that the old ones on SNES DKC 1-3 were better.
Final Thought: I will say that it isn't bad, but I just think that the old ones are better like I just said. If you can enjoy this game as much as I did, I'm glad for you.
