FIFA Soccer 64
Review by The Oggmonster
"Good at the time, not so bad now."
I love football games, they are my favourite type of games and I had never played a football game where I could honestly say 'what the bloody hell is this' before FIFA 64 came along, it is true to say that there are some good points about this game, as in it has a large array of teams and has an official license meaning there are no fake names here! However rubbish gameplay, graphics and sound cover up the good array of options within seconds and you really will think why did I buy this? Dont let the FIFA license fool you, this is absolute rubbish even if you travelled back to when it was released it would still be rubbish and its the worst football game ive played on the Nintendo 64,heres why.
Graphics-5
The players are running out on the pitch this is the point where football games really show off their superior graphics but oh no the players legs have been replaced by sticks! The stadiums are.......ok but need more detail, the pitch is th best side of the graphics as it actually looks half real, the players to be honest just look plain stupid and the kits, well lets just say they make Englands neew home shirt look fashionable.
Sound-7
Lets not forget this game has real commentators which was rare for its time and the sound in this game overall is pretty good actually, all the on pitch sounds are fairly realistic and bare a resemblance to the real game, its a shame that the menu music is a bit drab but this is the most exciting bit of the game. The crowd do actually sound real and you can hear them cheering and stuff.
Gameplay-6
Ohhhhh, good for its time perhaps, just rubbish at the moment, seriouslythis will put you off playing this game again. But having said that I got used to it after a while and once you do it does become a fun game to play. But linking passes together, taking it past people and just dribbling with the ball are hard as are the set pieces but you will gte used to this.
Length-8
Ah-ha this looks good, the game does take a while to beat and it is a challenge before you start learning how to play it,there are a good array of options and obviously the game takes advantage of the Nintendo 64's four controller ports and multiplayer with four people who dont know how to play the game is funny as anything!
Overall-7
I have made this game look worse than it is and for that I apoligise, but seriously you could probably get ISS64 for the same price as this and if it is buy that instead or World Cup 98 because that also is better, but this was made a long time ago lets not forget that, hey if you have some loose change in your pocket and you want a fun game for a few days get this.
