Monster Truck Madness 64
Review by Robert Wagner
"Mario Kart On Steroids ........."
Having played both Monster Truck Madness and Monster Truck Madness 2 on PC I went to the local video rental store and rented Monster Truck Madness 64. How did this port over of Monster Truck Madness 2 rate? Read on and find out.
Game play- 6/10
The game play of this game was difficult at first, The physics are accurate, but that only ensured that the trucks would be difficult to control. The tracks are fun to race on in multi player, but lack something in single player mode I can't really put my finger on. The summit rumbles are fun and furious, and the addition of soccer and hockey make this game really fun when you aren't struggling to control the vehicle. The addition of pickups in MTM 64 made things a bit more hectic, but I wish that they made an option so the computer trucks could pick up the stuff and make the game a bit challenging. The tracks are almost all the same as Monster Truck Madness 2, which while not a problem did make this game a little less entertaining for me, This should pose less of a problem for those who haven't played either game before.
Story- 0/10
There is no story. A story shouldn't matter in a racing game, so I won't count it against the game.
Audio- 8/10
The Audio is exceptional for a cartridge game. The trucks sound realistic and the sounds are really good. The music is a different story however as all the tracks for this game were taken from W.C.W. Nitro. Army Armstrong did the commentary for this game but that really serves no purpose and does get annoying from time to time.
Graphics- 5/10
The graphics in this game are sufficient. While not terrible or shoddy, the graphics aren't entirely complete. The trucks have no shocks, the other objects don't cast shadows. etc. This game's graphics even slip noticeably in multi player. While the graphics definitely aren't going to astound you, they are polished off sufficiently and the game definitely isn't an eyesore.
Replay- 7-10
This game doesn't lose it's appeal over replay and is the same after a week of play as it is the first time you pop in the cartridge. While you will get tired of this game it helps to have the other modes (summit rumble, hockey, soccer, etc.)
Overall -6/10
A decent game and definitely worth the time to try it. You should probably rent it first and if you like what you see go ahead and buy.
