Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Review by FRogers
"Rayman 2 is an original and good game."
Rayman 2 is a great game. With 18 levels and a few secrets, it makes good use of it's 256 Megabits. It's a little on the easy side, but it's still fun. It's story is a little strange, but if you hate it, you can ignore it. It's also original. Most games for the N64 and other systems are similar to Mario 64, where you go around in a big area looking for big items (stars) and small items (coins), with one entry point. However, Rayman 2 is not like that. Instead, it's like the old side-scroller games: get from point A to point B, collecting items along the way. It's got all of the usual videogame levels: a water level, a lava level, a swamp level, a cave level, a grass level...
It's basically a good sidescroller game, in 3-D (not 2 1/2-D like Yoshi's story). You slide, grapple, fly, deliver medicine, ride on the back of a missle shell, and more. The basic thing you have to do is rescue the 4 masks of Polokus so Polokus can destroy the robo-pirates (led by Razorbeard) that have taken over your land. Plus, it's got expansion pack compatibility, and 5 languages so if you're billingual you can play the game in your favorite language. Although I said it's pretty easy, getting 100% isn't You've got to collect 999 lums (the collectable item of the game) and beat the game if you want to say you've really beat the game, and that's hard. The game is pretty straightforward, but you'll need to do a bit of back-tracking. Also, If you don't have a Controller Pak, you'll up your electric bill in no time: you need a Controller Pak to save. The game's conroller pak note doesn't take up many pages, though. It also saves your initials on your saveslot, similar to Diddy Kong Racing. The thing that makes this game easy is that you have unlimited lives, similar to Donkey Kong 64. Plus, when you die you return to a checkpoint, not the beginning of the level. However, there's a lot of puzzle elements. Basically, Rayman 2 is a great game. If you like action/adventure games, this game is a must. However, if you like only hard games, or you don't like action/adventure games. don't waste your hard-earned $49.95.
