   O=====================================================================O

This is a guide to Paper Mario for Nintendo 64. You probably knew that, but I
couldn't think of any other way to start this... Anyway, this is a guide to the
items in Paper Mario. Not only does it have lists, it also has selling prices and
enemy drops -- making this the only guide I've seen with this information in so
far. I have organized it the best I could, and I hope you find it useful!

There are many items to choose from, and they all have uses. Some are attacks,
some heal status, and others refill lost HP/FP. By carefully managing your items,
your battles could be easy or difficult.

In this game, you are only allowed to carry 10 items. This may sound like a
disappointment, but careful item handling can make this no problem. You can
additionally check and claim up to 25 items at shops, too. Choose any 10 items
you wish, but you may want to leave some spaces open for items you find along the
way. I myself like carrying 2 HP-giving items, 2 FP-giving items, and 1 items that
covers them both. This leaves plenty of open space for new articles.

Items in Paper Mario are fairly easy to use. While in battle, you can select the
Item option (it's a Fire Flower symbol) and use an item you have it your possession
by choosing it. This does take one turn, but by using the Double Dip or Triple
Dip Badges, you can use 2 or 3 items in one turn, respectively. Out of battle you
can just as easily use an item by pressing the left C Button. You may also note
that some items cannot be used out of battle. These items are usually beneficial
towards you in offense of defense when you're fighting.

That's the basic item overview, so now onto the detailed stuff!

There are essentially 9 shops in Paper Mario. At these shops, you can check or
claim items and buy and sell goods. Each has favorite items of which they will
buy from you for more money. By using the Seller's Guide, you can get the best
price every time. Anyway, this section tells you what the shops have to offer,
if you need their items for cooking or just to have. Even so, some stores sell
their goods for less than other, so buy carefully!

I know of no other guide with enemy drops, so here's my finding. Enemy drops are
all based on which enemy you engage battle with on the main exploring screen. If
you go into battle and other enemies are present, the item that may be dropped still
relied only on the enemy you engaged. So, for example, if you get hit by a Pokey
and there are Bandits in the battle, you'll only be able to get the items listed
for Pokey, not for the Bandit.

Since there's only my input, not every enemy listed has a drop. I found quite a
few, however, so I filled in those enemy's spaces. If you have a drop that I missed,
E-mail me (Artemis251@yahoo.com) with the E-mail subject saying 'Paper Mario Enemy
Drops.' Specify which enemy (or enemies) drop what item(s). I'll give you credit
in my Special Thanks section. That being said, here's the list on enemies!

   <_|_|_>==========================================================<_|_|_>

There are other places to get items besides enemies and stores. Although you can
get a variety of items from question mark boxes, I am going to leave those to you
to find. :) I can assure you, though, that every one of those items can be found
elsewhere. This section reveals some places where items are plentiful -- as long
as you know how to get them!

     ##################
     # Lil' Oink Farm #
     ##################

This is more or less a pen for pigs, but since it's called a farm, a farm it is!
At this location in Toad Town near the Train Station, you can pay 10 Coins for a
randomly chosen Lil' Oink. What's its purpose? After you introduce an 11th Lil'
Oink into the pen, the first runs away and leaves an item. When you get a 12th,
the second leaves and so forth. There is a catch, however. When you go into the
pen to claim your item, all of the Lil' Oinks inside the pen at that time run away,
making you start your Lil' Oink collection over. This may be expensive (100+ Coins
for an item), but some rarities are here that aren't located anywhere else.

If you're fast on your feet, you may be able to pick up 2 items. Quickly pay for
and open another egg after a Lil' Oink runs away. Run to sty, open it up and wait
for the current Lil' Oinks to run away. The first item should be flickering, so
grab it as fast as you can! Afterwards, get your second item inside the pen before
it disappears, too.

Here are the types of pigs, their items, and percentages of showing up (percentages
come from bananagirl & Astroblue's Walkthrough/FAQ for Paper Mario):

  Type | Item | %
------------------------------
Pink | Fire Flower | 15%
Tiger | Thunder Rage | 15%
Flower | Maple Syrup | 10%
Black | Dried Shroom | 10%
White | Super Shroom | 10%
Shroom | Life Shroom | 10%
Star | Shooting Star | 10%
Mystery | Repel Gel* | 8%
Silver | Jammin' Jelly* | 6%
Gold | Ultra Shroom* | 6%

* - These are rare items that can only be received unlimitedly from here.

     %%%%%%%%%%%%%%
     % Rip Cheato %
     %%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Rip Cheato lives deep inside Toad Town Tunnels. He sells a stock of 7 different
goods for 64 Coins apiece, but they can only be purchased in order. As the name
implies, Rip Cheato will try to get your coins and sell you back some stuff that's
not worth the price. There are treasures in his stock, however, if you buy enough
goods. Here is his stock:

1) Star Piece
2) Life Shroom
3) Bump Attack Badge
4) Repel Gel
5) Star Piece
6) Super Shroom
7) Mushroom
8) Dried Shroom
9) Dried Shroom
10) Star Piece
11+) Dried Shroom

     @@@@@@@@@@@@
     @ Rarities @
     @@@@@@@@@@@@

Some items are easy to come by, but only a few are very rare. Here is a list of
some of the rarest items and where to get them.

Jammin' Jelly
<><><><><><><>
Locale #1 - If you go to the screen where Raphael the Raven and his followers
built the contraption to get you into Mt. Lavalava, look behind the
giant tree that doesn't shake when you hit it with your hammer. It
should be there.

Locale #2 - If you win the 64th Trivia contest in Bowser's Castle (as Peach),
you'll win a jar of yummy jelly. Put it inside the chest that links
to Merluvlee's house to claim it.

Locale #3 - You may get some from defeating an Amazy Dayzee in Flower Fields.

Locale #4 - Every silver Lil' Oink at the Lil' Oink Farm drops one as it
leaves the sty.

Ultra Shroom
{}[]{}[]{}[]
Locale #1 - In Dry Dry Desert, go to the screen that Kolorado was (or is)
camped on. Go up some screens until you see a question mark block on
the ground. Pound it with your hammer. If a block appears near it,
you have the correct block. If not, continue up, looking for it. Anyway,
hit this block and a box will appear with a mushroom inside. Hit
it 10 times and a box containing a Super Shroom will pop up. Hit
it a whopping 100 times to uncover a box with one inside.

Locale #2 - It's inside a question mark block on your way to the Crystal Palace.
On the way, you'll see an odd Brick block. When you hit it, you get
nothing, but if you jump a second time, you'll get an Ultra Shroom!

Locale #3 - After giving the snowmen the bucket and the scarf, stay at the Toad
House for a night. When you wake up, there will be one waiting for
you with 5 regular mushrooms.

Locale #4 - Gold Lil' Oinks from the Lil' Oink Farm drop these when they run
away from their sty.

There are many more places to get items. Here are a few places where you can get
some items for free!

SLOT MACHINE
''''''''''''
In Shy Guy's Toy Box, there's a slot machine that you can play by the place where
you got dictionary back. You can get a prize for winning, and you play for free!
Here are the combos:
*(Key)* SG = Shy Guy, C = Coin, S = Star

1 SG, 1 C, 1 S - Nothing
2 SG - 2 Shy Guys
3 SG - 5 Shy Guys
2 C - 1 Coin
3 C - 10 Coins
2 S - a Mushroom
3 S - 10 Mushrooms

SHY GUY HOARDERS
""""""""""""""""
Also inside Shy Guy's Toy Box is a playroom to the right of the exit jump pad. Inside
are 5 Shy Guys that carry useful items. When you leave and return, these items
reappear! This is a good place to get ingredients for Tayce T. The items are 2
Cake Mixes, a Fire Flower, a Mushroom, and some Maple Syrup.

TRADE GAME
''''''''''
Go to Koopa Village. Enter the house that has a radio inside. Change the channel
to the news station and you'll hear of a trade game. If you bring the item asked
to the location chosen, you'll get an item in return. Here are the exchanges as
best as I can remember:

Item Given---> Received
-------------------------
Koopa Leaf---> Repel Gel?
Nutty Cake---> Maple Super
Coconut------> Yummy Meal

Alright. Here it is -- one of the main reasons I made this FAQ -- the Seller's
Guide. Paper Mario is the first RPG I've played that had different sell prices
at each shop. Using this guide, you can see what shops will pay you more for certain
items. I went from store to store, finding the price of every item. I made a graph,
but for space and reading purposes, I've arranged it by price, not by store. I
list the price and then abbreviated shop names so you can read it easier. Here's
a chart to figure out what the abbreviations are (though they're not too hard to
figure out).

Toad - Toad Town Shop
Harry - Harry's Shop
Koopa - Koopa Shop
DDO - Lil' Mouser's Shop
Boo - Boo's Shop
Yoshi - Yoshi's Cabana
Frost - Shiver Shop
Star - Star Haven Shop
Bwsr - Bowser's Castle's Shop

DEVIN MORGAN - Though we didn't directly speak, I did use the info in his Paper
Mario guide to figure out Tayce T.'s Recipes. Thanks!

JEFF 'CJAYC' VEASEY - For even just looking through this guide. Even if it
doesn't make the cut, my inspiration is to get info onto his site and
to help gamers in need.

THE PEOPLE ON THE GAMEFAQS PAPER MARIO BOARD - They may not know it, but select
people have given me information for this guide. Though the topics are
lost (and sadly, the names with it), I thank everyone there for giving
me any bit of info that I didn't know.

NINTENDO & INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS - For creating this game and making it so fun
to play! It was so good I made a walkthrough (that's pretty darn good!
^_^)

AND YOU - For using this guide! I hope you find it useful!

Yeah, it's short, but what do you expect? This isn't a full Walkthrough. :)

development may be needed before permission is granted. Again, if you steal it,
a voodoo curse will be put on you involving 3 ancient Siberian yaks, a piece of
toast, and a chrysanthemum that will cause you to have seizures. Just kidding,
but you know not to go against copyrights...right?
