Review by Dave 008 Bond
"This was one of the first Nintendo 64 games. And its GOOD!"
Nintendo usually has good launch games. So it should come as no surprise that Wave Race is one those games. This is a unique racing game, because it does not take place on a car. It takes place on a Waterski. You race on waves that make you go higher, and could be your friend or be your enemy. The graphics and sound are also decent. This review will help you find out why one of the first Nintendo 64 games is still worth trying!
Nice grphics. The charactors look fairly detailed, but could have been better. The tracks are very good looking too. Sometimes when you see the sun at angle, the light will tempororarily blind you, just like in real life! These graphics look good, and it is nice that one of the first Nintendo 64 games look this good.
It is a racing game, it does not have a story.
Amazing that this was an early N64 game and it sounds this good. The sound effects are outstanding. You can hear a Motor Running, someone screaming in terror when they crash and the ''CLOOMP'' when you crash into a pineapple tree! But the announcer, can get so annoying after a while. The Music add heat to the races, which is never bad.
But the game is fun too! First you choose a racer, (which you can customize. You can change the color of their clothes and their names.) Then you will race. To get an idea of what this race is like, take Rush 2, cut out the crashing and this is the result! Every race is fun, and challenging too. And how could I forget the stunts? You can do flips and Barrel Rolls, and even Handstands! So when you jump a ramp you can show the people behind you your true skill! This game is fun and not be missed!
Nintendo does what they always do, and that is make an easy-to-use game! To move forwrd you just have to hold ''A'' and you steer with the control stick. To do stunts, you just have to press up down or left right while in the air. These controls will never get in the way of action.
The game really is not that hard to beat, sadly. The first couple races are challenging but then you can kill the computer.
Replay Value 6/10
Once you beat it, there really is nothing left to do. But there is a multiplayer in here, and that should be fun.
Buy or Rent?
Rent. It is not long enough for a buy, but it is very fun and should not be ignored. So give it a rent. You will enjoy it.
