"After returning a punt 68 yards and a kickoff 96 yards for touchdowns, I thought it was time for a review."
Madden 2001 for N64 is the best football game ever made. Many people argue that NFL Blitz is the best, but they all lie. For intense football, special team and stadiums, to hard-hitting linebackers, you need Madden 2001.
This game is just plain out fun. From rushing the line, sacking the quarterback for a loss of 20, to breaking down defenses in the air, this game is a blast. The gameplay is awesome. The modes of play include: Exhibition, Season, Franchise, Two-Minute Drill and Situation. In Season, you fight for the Super Bowl. In Franchise, you are the coach and player. You play the games. You are the coach. You make trades, and try to keep your players on the team by trying to sign them in the off season. You are the coach and player for 30, that is right, 30 NFL seasons. In Two-Minute Drill, you have two-minutes to win the game. And in situation, set up your own situation and try against all odds to win.
For the controls, they are somewhat difficult to master. Passing is great, and the defense controls allow you to go all out. Will take you some time to master, but don’t count on being left out for long.
Story: N/A out of 10.
Follow the above review. Basically, beat the other team into submission and try to win the Super Bowl.
Graphics and Sound: 9/10
Graphics are awesome. To the close-up on players to touchdown celebrations, the graphics are awesome. No slowness in the framrate, and the stadiums look great.
The sound is good. The music is good and the player sounds get you into the game. The only problem I had with this is the commentary by John Madden. He needs more things to say. After hearing the same things over and over and over, it gets kind of annoying. But the gameplay makes up for it.
This is one game you will want to play over and over. Just trying to get the hidden teams and stadiums will make you come back. Or, hit the quarterback so many times will bring you back. I don’t know. It is up to you. But most importantly, the overall quality of the game will bring you back.
Rent or Buy: BUY
Buy this game. You will spend hours playing away and sacking the quarterback is always fun. You will be hooked the minute you open the box.
