"THE Party Game to Own"
Mario Party 3 is a very fun party game to play. It might be one of the best party games available on the Nintendo 64. One of the best Mario Party games too.
I don't play a party game for the story, however this game does have a story. The Millennium Star crashes just outside the castle and Mario and three other Nintendo characters are arguing about who should win the prize. I haven't really played this game for its story, so I won't give it a low rating for that, but basically what you must do is beat all the levels in story mode.
Wow. Outstanding graphics for their time and still up to par to today's standards. Much better than Mario Party 2's graphics. Mario Party 3's graphics are excellent and you won't be complaining when your playing the game. The graphics use the full capabilities of the Nintendo 64 and deliver quite nicely.
Mario Party 3's sound, for the most part, is great and nothing seems out of place when it comes to audio. You can listen to in-game music anytime you want. Also you can listen to the characters' voices during gameplay. Not much else to say about the sound except that it delivers eloquently.
This is what you probably would want to play Mario Party 3 for. Gameplay is a vital component to any party game, or any video game in particular. You should be able to adapt to the controls very quickly and easily. Each mini-game comes with a set of instructions and the controls used for that specific mini-game. Mario Party 3 has over 70 mini-games available this time around, and until you've totally mastered the game secrets, it is fun to try and beat your old score or replay mini-games. There are a good number of maps for both Party mode and Duel mode. Characters available in the game include Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Waluigi. There's are Story Mode, Party Mode, Duel Mode, and Mini-Game Room (where you play mini-games you unlocked in Party Mode or Duel Mode). The gameplay is very intricate and detailed. Definitely the best aspect of the game, by far.
Be warned: you should clear a few days in your schedule before buying Mario Party 3. In terms of replayability, Mario Party 3 is better than its predecessors. The replay value is very high and you won't get bored easily. You can play alone (against the computer) or with friends. I prefer playing with friends because the computer AI cheats at times or is unfair. Also you will get more enjoyment playing with your friends than playing alone. There is tons of stuff to do in Mario Party 3, such as playing various game modes, playing mini-games, unlocking rewards, finding secrets, playing with friends, and most importantly having fun! This game is simply addictive.
Final Recommendation: Buy
I don't think a rental is worth it, however if you're only playing alone you should probably rent this just to be safe. Otherwise, buy it. You can have some hardcore multiplayer going on with you and your friends. Go ahead, buy Mario Party 3, it's an excellent party game, and THE party game to own.
