Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Review by tgoldberg
"Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 is a superb game that anyone can get into, and a must-have for Nintendo 64 owners."
Back in 2000, a game called Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 was released for the Playstation a year after the original. A year later it was released for Nintendo 64, and was the last release of the game. That version featured better graphics than the PlayStation edition, which could be even further enhanced via expansion pack, but it also had less soundtracks than it had on the PS and DreamCast. While not the best version, it certainly manages to hold it's own despite the competition, and is every bit as fun as it was a year earlier.
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 features some of the most engrossing and enjoyable gameplay on the Nintendo 64, and with multiple player to join in the heat, it's a blast. The game works by selecting a level, then trying to complete as many goals as you can in under 2:00. Each level features a total of 10 goals, which range from the average (Getting the high score) to the weird (Ollie the magic bum 5x), and always manage to be entertaining to complete. The multi player is very fun too, with modes like Horse, which us a skate-take on the basketball game, and Graphiti, where players try to claim items by tricking off them. You can also customise your tricks and buy stats for your pro skater useing menus acessable from the main and end-of-run menus.
The graphics are on-par with other Nintendo 64 games, and look better than the PS version. The character models look great, and the levels are finely done too. The jagged edges from the PS version are noticeably smaller, and stand out less than they do in most other releases. However, there were some things in the game that don't look as good as it seem they should be, like the water fountain in Philadelphia, and the snow in The Hanger. But other than that, the graphics are very good looking and appealing to the eye.
You simply can't go wrong with this game, as it features a very low price for a huge amount of gameplay. I purchased it for $10.00 at a video game store, and I'm glad I did, as this is probably one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The game also has a lot of replay value, since you will end up coming back to this game often to play either the outstanding single player, or the incredible multi-player.
Replay Value: 9/10
This is the kind of game you'll find yourself playing often even after you've mastered it, due to the wide range of playable skaters and the large amount of multi-player modes. Although many people will probably just play Tony Hawk, there is a lot of other skaters to suit the needs of specific fans. There are many different multi-player modes too, that range from casual competition to extremely fierce all-out war of score.
Replay Value: 9/10
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 is a superb game that anyone can get into, and a must-have for Nintendo 64 owners.
