007: The World is Not Enough
Review by EReiter
"It's no Perfect Dark, but a great buy nonetheless."
Ah, I waited so long for this game. I ordered it in the mail, and every day I rushed home from school to see if it had yet arrived. And when it did, I was not disappointed. I had heard that it was possibly better than the fabled Perfect Dark. I wouldn't go that far, but it definitely bests Golden Eye.
Game play: 9/10
This game is great. The controls are responsive, the hit-detection system is very well done, and EA's new engine runs VERY nicely. The three difficulty levels give people of all abilities a chance, with Agent being very easy, Secret Agent being moderately difficult, and 00 Agent being a nice challenge for more advanced players. However, 00 Agent, while presenting some challenge, lacks the mind-boggling difficulty Perfect Dark somehow possessed. PD took me an entire month to conquer on Perfect Agent, whereas 00 Agent of TWINE took me slightly less than a week to defeat. But good challenge is present, still. The only other downside is the placement of the jump button; it is used rather often, and moving about effectively while trying to hit the D-Pad Up is more trouble than it's worth.
Story: 8/10
The story is very intriguing, but if the game's shortened cut scenes take away some of the 'pizzazz' that was present in the movie. Still, EA did a nice job of keeping the story line intact and moving. But if you want those extra bits, get the movie, too.
Audio: 9/10
The music is crisp, fast paced, and always seems to match the mood. However, there could of been more tracks.
Visual: 9/10
The graphics are stunning, but not perfect. EA's amazing new engine has managed to keep up Perfect Dark quality graphics and almost no framerate slowdown. However, slowdown is still present, but very inconspicuous. Multiplayer graphics automatically adjust so there's never any slowdown, but this means if you have four players going at it, the graphic quality is greatly reduced. But good job, EA.
Replayability: 9/10
Beating the game on all three difficulties is one task, and that alone can take a month or so your first time through. And after that, the endless multiplayer goodies to be unlocked and the multiplayer itself is enough to keep me coming back. But, once again, it is inferior to PD's obscene amount of things to do.
Buy or Rent?
I would suggest buying it. But then again, there have been bad reviews too, so my advice is to rent it. If you don't like it, take it back. But if you want to buy it, you can save your game to a Controller Pack, buy it, then pick up right where you left off.
