"It's fun for a couple of matches, then you realized that you wasted your money on a old arcade soccer game.."
Finally we got a bunch of Neo-Geo games to download on our Playstation 3. It took some time but 10 of them are finally downloadable on PSN. The system was known for having many, many 2D fighters, and of course Metal Slug. But since 4 fighters out of 10 games are more than enough, SNK Playmore decided to also include some other type of games. Since the Samurai Shodown series, the Fatal Fury series, the Art of Fighting series and the King of Fighters series each got their first game on PSN is was only logical that SNK Playmore would also release the first game in the Super Sidekicks series.
I really doubt that I have to explain how you play soccer, because if you don't know know to play soccer then you won't download this game. The first thing you have to do is to choose which game mode you want to play. You can either choose to play the SNK Cup mode, against a player or just a exhibition match. There are 12 teams which are split in 2 groups, and the main difference is their formation even if some teams got better players than the others (Korea and Mexico are pretty worthless while Germany and Brazil are really good. If you have paid any attention to soccer in the real world then you know which teams are better).
Even if the Neo-Geo had four different buttons this game only uses two buttons. What they do depends on if you are playing offensive or defensive. If you are playing offensive then that means that it's your team which has the ball, so then you can either use the long pass button or the pass button. You can only pass the player that a small arrow is pointing to, so you don't have to worry about that the pass won't get to the player, but that also means that you can only pass to the other player that's closest to the ball.
When you are playing defense, then you can either use one button to glide attack or to bump into them. I don't think it's possible to get any cards in this game, so just use any means necessary to get the ball. It's very rare but sometimes the ref decides to call it a foul, but it's not like it's possible to make anything of a freekick in this game either. You can only control the player which are closest to the ball, and the AI will take advantage to this by forcing the game to quickly change the player that you are controlling.
If you are a huge soccer fan, then you might have fun for a couple of matches while playing this game, but truth be told it's very old and a lot have happened in soccer games since 1992. But if you can find someone to play a match with and don't have access to any better option, then you might want to give this game a try. Just don't expect much from it.
