 I. FAQ HISTORY
=============================================================================
Version 1.00 (05/22/00) [53.4k]
     Initial release

=============================================================================
 II. STORY
=============================================================================
Maria's parents told her the legend of the white lion. "Once upon a time, a
great white lion attacked our village. Many soldiers tried to subdue it, but
to no avail. But one young soldier summoned all his courage, and threw his
spear at the lion. The white lion disappeared into a cave at the edge of the
village, never to be seen again."

"We are about to embark on a journey to solve this mystery," said Maria's
parents. "It may be a very dangerous and difficult journey. Please wait for
us until we return. If you have any problems, go and see the village
elders." With that, the parents left. But, they were never heard from
again.

Maria decided to search for her parents and visited the village
elders. "You finally decided to start on a journey. This spear holds the
spirit of the young soldier. If you call upon the spirit, he will appear and
help you." "First, you should search for a special lamp. It will protect
you." The village elders gave Maria the spear and the wood key. "There is a
rumor that the white lion is at the gate of evil. Be careful Maria." Maria
left the village elders and went into the cave.

 V. WALKTHROUGH
=============================================================================
This walkthrough will guide you step by step through the entire game. The
strategy discussed below does not need to be followed strictly to the letter.
You may choose to skip the money building portions and proceed onward
although this will make the game harder/easier depending on how much you
fundraise.

The walkthrough is divided into "chapters" of my own devising. Each chapter
lists all the locations covered as well as all items and monsters that will
be encountered from all the locations combined. The monsters specific to a
certain location will be listed above the section dealing with that area.
Monsters that are bosses will have an asterisk (*) before their names. The
game's events have been noted at the top of each section.

           -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Chapter One =-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Locales: Intro Cave, Cave of the Giants, Town of Bread, Goblin's Cave, Cave
          of the Giants (revisited)
Items : 100 rubies, dagger, 2 fragment of hope, gold key, lamp, stardust
Enemies: *Goblin, Kobold, Orc, Skeleton, Zombie
Mystery: Deliver letter to old woman's son in Davis
          Recover stardust from goblin

Intro Cave & Bath
-----------------
     Items: dagger, gold key, lamp

Head down to the door. Use the wood key to open it. Now go left. Take the
first branch in the road that you come across. Head up to the chest. Take
the lamp, the gold key, and the dagger inside. Now head down and then go
left. Use the gold key to unlock the door. Then head up and to the left.
When you go across the bridge, it will break. You will lose consciousness
and awaken in the world of dreams. This is Bath, the fairy spring. Talk to
the fairies. One of them will heal you and offer to save the game. Be sure
to come back to this spot also known as the Bath to heal/save in the future.
Now go right to leave the spring. Go west from the spring to a cave.

Cave of the Giants
------------------
     Items: fragment of hope
     Enemy: Kobold, Orc, Skeleton, Zombie

Once inside, head left. Follow the path around. When you reach the branch
in the path, take the south branch. There will be a chest that contains a
fragment of hope. Now take the right branch. You'll meet an old man who
reveals that you'll need to recover the stardust from the goblin in order to
pass through the cave. Since there's nothing more you can do here, head back
out of the cave.

Now go back to the spring to heal up. Save and then get ready to do a little
fundraising, namely defeating the monsters around the spring. Don't try to
fight more than 1 or 2 battles between heals because the monsters can kill
you if you have less than your full HP. Fight until you have 50 rubies.
Then head north to the town of Bread.

Town of Bread
-------------
     Store: Bread 20
             Tear 100
             Bomb 30
             Bluering 100
             Club 50

Talk to everyone. You'll learn the goblin who stole the stardust is hiding
out in the cave west of town. You'll also meet an old woman who wants you to
buy her some bread. Hold off on that for now. Use your money to buy the
club. Do not go on the ship because you are not powerful enough to fight the
enemies of those regions that the ship will take you to. Now resume
fundraising until you have 500 rubies (1000 is preferred). With the aid of
your newly purchased club, the battles will be much easier now. As always,
heal up near the spring. When you have enough money, head back to Bread.
Buy 4 loaves of bread, 1 tear, 1 bomb, and the bluering. Now talk to the
hungry old woman. Say "yes" when she asks you to give her some bread.
She'll ask for more. Say yes 2 more times. The old woman will thank you and
request that you deliver a letter to her son in the town of Davis. Now leave
town. Go west and then a little ways down to find the Goblin's Cave in the
mountains.

Goblin's Cave
-------------
Items: 100 rubies, fragment of hope
Enemy: *Goblin, Kobold, Orc, Skeleton, Zombie

Head up. Then go right to find a chest with 100 rubies inside. Now go west
until you can't go west anymore. Take the south path to find a small room
with a chest. Take the fragment of hope inside. Now follow the path to the
north. You'll find the goblin in your way. Talk to him to initiate the
fight. Summon Twana. Then have him cast bomb on the goblin. In the second
round, have Twana cast bomb again while you attack. This will be enough to
defeat the goblin. Now head right where you'll find a chest with the
stardust inside. Leave the cave and head to the Cave of the Giants.

Cave of the Giants (revisited)
------------------------------
Head for the dais that is located just west of the old man. Stand in front
of it. Use the stardust while facing the dais. The giant's statue will
disappear. Now follow the newly opened path around to the exit. You'll now
be in the Werewolves' Territory.

           -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Chapter Two =-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Locales: Cave of the Giants, Dog's Cave, Town of Davis, Werewolves' Castle,
          Fon's Cave
Items : 100 rubies, b-dagger, dog's eye, 3 fragment of hope, horn, rapier,
          red ring
Enemies: Goblin, *King Wolf, Orc, Skeleton, Werewolf, Zombie
Mystery: Red Ring
          Rapier
          Find shining dog's eye
Use shining dog's eye to find horn
Use horn to break Werewolf King's curse

Go south. There will be a mushroom patch. You should see a lone mushroom
across a bridge. Take the bridge to the mushroom to enter the town of Davis.

Town of Davis
-------------
     Items: b-dagger

Talk to everyone. You'll find the son of the old woman from Bread south of
the fairy spring. He's the man dressed in red. He'll give you the b-dagger.
Talk to the remaining townsfolk and you'll learn of the Werewolves' Castle to
the south, the huge rock to the west, and the Fon's cave to the south. Now
return to Bread to stock up on bread. Buy about 10 loaves for good measure.
Afterwards, head back to Davis. From Davis, walk across the bridge to the
west. You'll reach the Dog's Cave. Don't go in yet. Go south instead. You
should see many mountains. The Fon's Cave is just around the mountains.

Fon's Cave
----------
Items: fragment of hope, rapier, red ring
     Enemy: Goblin, Kobold, Orc

From the entrance, head north. Then take the left path. Open the chest
found to the left to find the red ring. Then walk back to the entrance. Now
go east. Then go south. Follow the path to the left. You'll eventually
come across a chest with the rapier inside. Now walk back to the entrance.
Go north again but take the right path this time. You'll find a chest with a
fragment of hope. Now you've grabbed all the chests in the cave so head out.
Go back to Davis to heal up. Leave town and go east. Then go south until
you reach the Werewolves' Castle.

Werewolves' Castle
------------------
Items: 100 rubies, dog's eye, fragment of hope
Enemy: Goblin, *King Wolf, Orc, Skeleton, Werewolf, Zombie

From the entrance, you should see a set of stairs going down both above and
below you. Take the bottom set first. Open the chest that you find. You'll
have to defeat 2 werewolves before you'll get the fragment of hope. Now head
back upstairs. Now make your way to the top set of stairs by going through
the room to the north. Once you're on the floor below, just follow the path
around. You'll eventually come across a chest in a dead end. Heal up before
you open it. When you do open it, the Wolf King will attack you. Summon
Twana and have him cast either bomb or sleep. Then summon Moja. You can
choose to summon Halfling or Elf but I'd recommend attacking instead of just
summoning. The combined efforts of Maria, Moja, and Twana should be enough
to defeat the Wolf King within a few rounds. You'll get the dog's eye for
winning. Now head back upstairs. Go to the northwest corner of the castle.
You'll find another set of stairs down. Go down and follow the path to find
a chest guarded by 2 werewolves. You'll receive 100 rubies for winning.
You've now cleared out the castle so head back to Davis and heal. Now
there's only one task left to do and that's to go to the Dog's Cave.

Dog's Cave
----------
     Items: fragment of hope, horn
Enemy: Goblin, Orc, Skeleton, Werewolf, Zombie

Go west. When you come to the intersection, go down. You'll see a pit to
your left. Drop down it. You'll now be in the middle of a T-junction. The
left branch is a dead end. Take the north branch to find a chest with a
fragment of hope. Now head back to the branch. Then go right where you'll
find the stairs up. Now go left and you'll see the pit that you fell into
recently. Go up. Then follow the path as it goes to the left. You'll find
an old man who instructs you to place the dog's eye in the dog statue. Doing
so will remove the statue from your way. Continue past the statue to find
stairs down. Go right and you'll eventually come across the chest with the
horn inside. Now get out of the cave. Once you're outside, follow the
mountains to the west down to the huge rock that looks more like a tombstone
than a rock. In any case, use the horn to break the curse of the Wolf King
and pass through to the Pixies.

           -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Chapter Three =-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Locales: Town of Pixie, Slug's Cave, Ranya Tower, Town inside the Ranya
Tower, Lake of Paradise, Witch's Forest, North Cave
Items : bread, brooms, 3 fragment of hope, musicbox, rope, slug, water,
          waterjug
Enemies: Ghost, Ghoul, Hiltroll, *HugeSlug, Pixie, Sprite, Werewolf
Mystery: Missing Pixie
          Huge Slug
          Ranya Tower
          Witch's Broom

You'll encounter stronger enemies here. The pixies and sprites can be
defeated by having Twana cast needle or poison on them. Weapons tend to miss
often. Now you should see a bridge to the west. Go there and you'll see a
lone mushroom to the right of a lot of mushrooms. This mushroom is the town
of Pixie.

Town of Pixie
-------------
     Items: none

Talk to everyone. You'll find out about the huge slug. You'll also learn of
the red pyramid at Alko in the south. Leave town and go across the bridge.
Go south and you will see the Slug's Cave.

Slug's Cave
-----------
Items: fragment of hope, rope, slug
     Enemy: Ghoul, Hiltroll, *HugeSlug, Sprite

Go south. Then go east. You'll run into the huge slug. Talk to it to
fight. Summon Moja. Then summon Halfling, Twana, and Elf in that order.
Have Maria, Moja, and Halfling attack while Twana casts bomb or sleep and Elf
casts hold. The huge slug should go down in a few rounds. You'll receive
the slug for winning. Now you can summon slug in combat. Continue to the
right and you'll find the missing pixie from Pixie. Talk to it and it will
thank you before leaving. Take the rope from the chest behind it. Head back
west now. Go north when you come to the first branch in the path. You'll
see a small lake. Continue going north and you'll find a chest. Take the
fragment of hope inside. Now head back down. Go left and up to go back to
the stairs. Return to Pixie to heal. Leave town. Go across the bridge.
Then go north. You'll reach the Ranya Tower.

Ranya Tower
-----------
Items: bread, fragment of hope, waterjug
     Enemy: Hiltroll, Pixie, Sprite, Werewolf

There is a room to the north of you with 2 paths to choose from. Take the
left path first. You'll find a chest with the waterjug. It's a dead end,
but you should see the stairs up on the other side of the wall. Go back and
take the right path to reach the stairs. On the floor above, go west.
You'll meet a girl who has lost her musicbox. Pay attention to the clue she
tells you. Now head right to find the stairs up. Go west on the next floor
and you will see the stairs going up. Hold off on going upstairs for a
moment to explore the 2 rooms below you. The right room has a chest with a
fragment of hope inside. The left room has a chest with bread inside. Now
go upstairs and you'll reach the Town inside the Ranya Tower.

Town inside the Ranya Tower
---------------------------
     Shop: Bread 32
            Tear 110
            Bluering 120
            S-Sword 470
            Whip 1380

Talk to everyone as usual. You'll learn of the rainbow child in the North
Cave, the Lake of Paradise, the Kapi's Tower, and the Witch's Forest. Buy
both the S-Sword and the Whip. Now leave the tower. Once you're out of the
tower, go northeast. You'll find a bridge. Go across it and continue
heading northeast. You'll find a fairy spring. Heal up and save. Then
leave the spring and go west. You should see a small lake with an island in
the center. In addition, a peninsula is on the lake's west shore. Walk over
to the peninsula. Step on it to find the entrance to the Lake of Paradise.

Lake of Paradise
----------------
     Items: fragment of hope, water
     Enemy: Ghost, Ghoul, Sprite

Go east into the stairwell. Then go north. Go east all the way to find a
chest with a fragment of hope inside. Now go west. Take the branch in the
path south. Afterwards, there will be another branch going east. It goes in
a circle so continue going south. Go west to find the stairs up. You'll
find an old man who tells you that you'll need the waterjug to store the
water from Paradise Lake. Stand on the pier in front of the water. Use the
waterjug to draw the water from the lake. Now go back downstairs and leave
Paradise Lake. Return to the fairy spring to heal. Leave the spring and go
south across the bridge. Then go west. Next, go north. You'll see some
swamps and 2 tree stumps on either side of the river to the north. That is
the entrance to the North Cave. We'll be back later but go west for now. To
the south will be a group of mushrooms. Next to it is a tree stump. That
stump is the Witch's Forest.

Witch's Forest
--------------
     Items: brooms, musicbox

The forest has many tree stumps that will teleport you from place to place.
From the entrance, go north. Then go east to a tree stump. Teleport and you
will be in the southeast corner of the forest. Take a step down. Recall
that the girl from Ranya Tower mentioned that she buried her musicbox under a
tree. Search the ground to find the musicbox. Now go west. Get teleported.
Then go to the stump to the southeast. Get teleported again. Walk around to
talk to the witch. She'll ask to exchange the horn for her broom. Say "no"
first. The witch will then offer you 20 rubies in addition to the broom for
the horn. This is an offer you can't refuse (This is the witch's final
offer), so take it. Now leave the forest. With the broom, you can teleport
to any location you've already visited with a fairy spring. Use the broom to
teleport to Pixie. Heal up. Then go north to the Ranya Tower. Go to the
girl on the 2nd floor. She'll take the musicbox. As a reward, she'll tell
you about Paradise Lake and the waterjug. Now leave the tower. Head north
to the North Cave.

North Cave
----------
Talk to the rainbow child. He'll create a rainbow bridge north. Head across
the bridge to the exit on the other side. You'll now be in new territory.

           -=-=-=-=-=-=-= Chapter Four =-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Town of Orange Moon & Town of Spirit's Tower (revisited)
--------------------------------------------------------
     Items: doll, f-sword
     Shop : Bread 70
             Tear 200
             L-Sword 3000

Talk to everyone. You'll learn of the slug, frog, snake three-cornered
deadlock, the silver cup, a powerful stone, and the Klein Jug. You'll also
learn more about the white lion and Twana. Notice the palm tree "road" in
the center of town? Stand between the top and bottom third palm tree and
search. You'll find the doll belonging to the girl from the town in the
Spirit's Tower. Buy the whip from the shop. Don't confuse this whip with
the weaker whip from early on even though their names are identical. This
whip is the strongest weapon in the game. Leave town and warp to Ratal. Go
west to the Spirit's Tower. Climb up to the town. Return the doll to the
girl to receive the sword of light, f-sword. The (lightning) whip is still
by far the best weapon though. Leave the tower and warp to Thea. Go
southeast until you reach the Snake's Cave at the tip of the southeast
peninsula.

Snake's Cave
------------
Items: bread, fragment of hope, kleinjug

down. Then go west and north to find a chest with bread inside. Now go east
and follow the path. Skip the first passage south that you see. Take the
second passage south to find the snake. Talk to fight it. This fight is an
easy one. Recall the snake, frog, slug three-cornered deadlock from Orange
Moon. Summon HugeSlug first. Hydra will be paralyzed at the sight of slug.
Next, summon HugeFrog. Now that you've created the deadlock, just attack
Hydra until it's dead. Go south to find the Klein Jug in a chest. Go back
north. Then go east to the stairs up. Go west and take the first passage
south. You'll find a chest with a fragment of hope inside. Now go north and
then west to go back to the cave's entrance. Leave and warp back to Thea to
heal. Then go east to the Cave to the Gate of Evil.

Cave to the Gate of Evil

     Items: fragment of hope
Enemy: Ghoul, Ifleet, Iron, Manticoa, Odick, Rock, Specter, Troll,
             Wight

Go north until you reach a four way room. Go east to the stairs down. Go
north on the floor below to find a chest with a fragment of hope. Then go
west. Next, go south and follow the path around to find an old man. He'll
tell you to use the Kleinjug in front of the dais of the gate of evil. Now
head back to the stairs. Go west to the four way room. Go north to leave
the cave. Once outside, go north again and you'll notice that the lake is
all dried up. You can now walk back to Thea without having to go through the
cave now. Heal up at Thea. Now prepare for the final area by buying plenty
of bread and a couple of tears. Now would also be a good time to throw away
any nonessentials that you have in your inventory. This will free some space
for more bread and tears. When you're ready, head northwest from Thea,
through the dried up lake to the White Pyramid.

White Pyramid
-------------
Items: bread, 2 fragment of hope
Enemy: Druze, Ghoul, Golem, Ifleet, Iron, Manticoa, Odick, Rock,
             Specter, Troll, *W.Lion, Wight

right. Take the stairs down. Go south to find a chest with bread inside.
Now go back north and back up the stairs. Then go north to come across 3
sets of stairs. Take the left set. Go south to another set of stairs. Go
south again and follow the path to a fork in the path. Go north to find a
chest with a fragment of hope inside. Then go south and east to the stairs.
Go west until you see another set of stairs down. Go down and you'll have a
north and an east passage to choose from. Go north and you'll find a chest
with a fragment of hope inside. Then go back south and then east. Go down
the stairs that you find. Now just simply follow the path around. You'll go
through 3 more sets of stairs before you finally reach the chamber of the
white lion. Restore your courage and dreams to their maximum values by using
bread and tears. Then talk to the white lion to fight. Begin the fight by
using Aurora. This will lessen the damage from the lion. Your greatest
asset is your strength in numbers so proceed to summon Moja, Giant, Dwarf,
Wing Man, HugeSlug, and HugeFrog all in that order. Have everyone attack.
You probably won't get everyone summoned since the lion can do enough damage
in one attack to defeat any of the summons. You can survive with just 2 or 3
summons. After 1500 points of damage, the white lion will be defeated.
