Thank you for choosing to read my guide, I hope you find it helpful. My goal
is to try and make this guide as easy for you to read and use, and as helpful
as possible, if you can think of anything that would help this guide fulfill
that goal, then send it to me at Happybuddha311(at)Aol(dot)com. Make sure you
include two things in the subject line "Your Blades of Steel FAQ" and what site
you are reading the guide from. That way I can tell that it isn't spam, and if
you ask a question already found in the guide that either the host hasn't
updated or you're a lazy, stupid pile.

This game is really near and dear to my heart, as a hockey player this is my
favorite hockey game of all time. The first time I played this game I would
have been in first or second grade, it's what really got me into hockey, a
sport I still play 10 years later. Thank you KONAMI for this life changing
game.

If you are a webmaster looking to host this guide, don't. The only two sites
that are allowed to have this guide are Gamefaqs.com and Ign.com. If you are
reading this guide anywhere else, please inform me, so the parties involved can
be dealt with in a courtroom setting.

With all that said, let's get to the part of the guide you came to read, or so
I'm hoping.

In this section I will tell you all about the modes of play, there isn't too
many of them so this section should be rather short I think. Enjoy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                      Exhibition

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is just one game against any computer controlled team of your choice with
any team you want to pick. Anytime you want to play with 2 players this is the
only option you'll have. (It doesn't actually give you an option it just goes
right to the game after teams are selected).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                      Tournament

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick a team then go down the bracket to win the Stanley Cup, Whatever the
college trophy is or the League Championship (Depending on what mode you're
playing at). This is what the game would call a "Season" mode, as there was no
way to save on these early cartridges (at least when this game was made) so the
idea of a season was still something slightly out of reach.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

In this section I'll teach you all of the basics of the game, since it's really
not that much stuff, and there isn't a very good way to organize it, I'll just
be using bullets to make my points.

* Periods are 2 minutes each, they stop when someone has scored or when there
is a fight, they resume when the puck drops or when the fight is over.

* Passing - You will pass to the closest person in the direction you are
facing, unless you aim the pass.

* The winning team will always take a victory lap and get their picture taken
at the end of the game.

* Shooting - A shot will always go towards the net no matter what direction you
are facing. You can't really aim shots, but depending on where you are located
the shot will go in that direction.

* There is no penalties (except for fighting) offsides or Icing. For those of
you people that are new to hockey, Offsides is when a member of the opposing
team is in the "Attack zone" (after the blue line, by the opposing teams net)
before the puck is in there. And Icing is where you dump the puck from your
defending zone (after the blue line by your net) and it crosses the goal line
on the other side of the rink.

* Like in a lot of different hockey games, you can sometimes pass the puck into
the net and score a goal. This is really cheap, but it works, so go with it.

Ahh, the art of goaltending such a beautiful position (can you guess what
position I play in hockey?). Goaltending is quite possibly the hardest part of
the sport, with anticipation, prediction and cat like reflexes needed to
succeed. In this game goaltending for the most part is made pretty easy for
you. With the exception of penalty shots, there is always a red arrow in the
crease indicating where a shot will go if it's taken.

To Control goalies, use the D-pad, you don't switch to the goalie, but instead
you're always in control of the goalie. It's hard to explain, but if you've
ever played the game than you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, the only
time I suggest moving the goalie is when there is an odd-man rush (3 offense
against 2 defense, is an example) in which case take control of the goalie and
let the computer control the defenders. Another time to move the goalie is if
you think there is a shot about to go off. You can see when they shoot because
they wind up, but the goalies are slow, so if you're counting on your reflexes
alone, you might wanna re-think that strategy.

Now for penalty shots that's a completely different story. Here are some
charts to help explain this pretty hard task.

In any given penalty shot there is the following holes:

                                    0-------0
A B C
D E F
G H I
                                    0-------0

Not moving at all will block the H and E slots, but leave everything else open.
Players RARELY shoot straight at you, so if you're gonna guess, don't make that
save.

Here are the other saves, an X indicates a save, where as a letter indicates an
opening:

*Note* the names of the saves are what I'd imagine they are, I haven't seen
every save done, as I've only ever had two games go into over-time.

                                    0---------0

Butterfly save right - Press DOWN and RIGHT.

                                     0---------0

D E F
G x x
                                     0---------0

As you can see, there is no one save that will cover more than two areas of the
net. This means guessing gives you a really bad chance at making the save. So
you'll have to react to get the most of them. At least you can react and guess
at the same time, IE: If the puck is going to the right go with a right save,
pick one and hop you get it.

Someone once told me that this is the first hockey game where you can fight, I
don't know if that's true, but it'd be pretty cool if it was. Anyway, to start
a fight bump into the puck carrier a bunch of times (sometimes once is enough,
others 6 or 7 times is neeeded). The two will begin to exchange punches, Tap A
here. Now if it's been pretty even you will go into a fight. Here are the
controls for fighting:

B - Punch
A - Block
D-pad Down - Body punch/block

The best way to win a fight is to ignore blocking, it's best to hit him once to
the head then to the body, then head again. Just keep swinging I always win
fights by doing this. Just change it up and he won't know what to block.

The Loser will go to the penalty box for two minutes of game time. This is
something like 20-30 seconds of real time, anyway, the winner gets the puck and
usually gets on a break-away. If you start a fight in-front of a net, you are
rewarded with a penalty shot. Some people COUGHCOUGHBRIANPSULPHERCOUGHCOUGH
like to play entire games where the only goals he scores are penalty shot
goals. What a crazy Canadian that guy is.

An interesting oddity of fighting, depending on where the fight breaks out, the
background will change.

According to a friend of mine (Brian Sulpher, check out his guide, it sux
compared to this one =P). There is two games, A Space ship one and a puck
shooting bear one. I've only ever seen the space ship one, and the puck
shooting bear one is non-interactive. So I guess I'll be telling you about the
space ship one eh?

Here are the controls:

D-Pad- Move ship.

A or B - Shoot guns.

The goal is to take down the large ship that shoots many lasers at you at once.
There is a time limit, but it's not that hard to beat if you know what you're
doing.

After the game or Puck shooting bear, then you'll see two shameless plugs for
"The Jackal" and "Contra" and "the score board will talk about how all your
friends will be jealous and ****" - Brian Sulpher.

Penalty shots are quite a rare thing in this game, there is two ways for a
penalty shot to happen. One way is for a tie at the end of the game, each team
gets four shots, whoever scores the most wins. The other way is if there is a
fight in front of the net. The winner gets a penalty shot.

                                Saving the Penalty Shot

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saving a Penalty shot is definatly a TON harder than taking the shot

*Note* the names of the saves are what I'd imagine they are, I haven't seen
every save done, as I've only ever had two games go into over-time.

Kick save left side- Press UP and LEFT.

                                     0---------0

D E x
G H x
                                    0---------0

Half butterfly left - Press DOWN and LEFT.

                                    0---------0
A B C
D E F
x x I
                                    0---------0

Butterfly save right - Press DOWN and RIGHT.

                                     0---------0
A B C
D E F
G x x

This section deals with things I've noticed when playing with two people.

* To Play with 2 players hit select on the first screen that loads.

* The Computer will not attack the puck carrier, so you must do it yourself.

* You can't play as the same team.

* The AI is REALLY stupid when playing with two people.

That's it, I know it's not much, but hey I didn't fit anywhere else, so I had
to make this section.

guide, I think I should get my own little section to do stuff with right? This
is kinda like a "Credits/About the Author" section, so read-on if you dig that
stuff.

Hello, thank you for reading this guide. If you cared enough
to read this far, I might as well entertain you. I'm a 17 year old Virgo and I
am a senior (at Millard North High School). In my free time I am either on the
Gamefaqs message boards (Current Events, Life the Universe and Everything, The
Faq Contributor Boards or Punk General), Playing Hockey, or working in either a
little shack by the side of the road selling tacos, or at the Ice rink. This
will be my thirteenth Faq/Walkthrough, and I feel that writing these has given
me something better to do then to watch that **** people call T.V.
