"Great for a Die Hard X-Fan..."

My Opinion- Despite the awful reviews of X-Men on the original Nintendo, I still think it was quite good. Then again, I am obsessed with X-Men in every way. I thought the game was very well done. I will sum up the games ups and downs in the following review of the game. Please take the time to read.

Graphics- The Graphics were definitely not the best in a Nintendo game, but they were fair. The character designs in the game were not as good as they should have been. I was very disappointed with the Wolverine character; he had no claws and no healing factor. The game is an overhead view. It is fairly easy to navigate the environments. Unfortunately, there are some slow ups with two characters on screen and a lot of action going on. Aside from that, the graphics are basically average for the NES.

Controls- The controls are responsive and it is very easy to fight the enemies. Your mutant powers live up to the comics and look good in the game. The controls run very smoothly. The only thing you should worry about is the appalling controls of the computer character when using One Player Mode. The AI Character will most likely either do one of the following: Stand in place using attacking left and right repeatedly, walk into traps/enemies and die, or follow you using you as cover. The computer character becomes very tedious after a while. I definitely suggest playing this game WITH TWO PLAYERS.

Game Play- The Game play is great in X-Men. The hoards of enemies can become monotonous, but it makes the challenge. You also have to give your teammate back up and switch between the two characters to get past areas alive. If you choose the wrong character on a level, it can be a fatal mistake. You have to learn the game then conquer it. Replay value isn’t as great as it could be, but you may find yourself going back a few times if you like it. The game is very vague on how to get to the last level. In order to get to the final level, you must enter a special code found on the cartridge to reach Magneto. Look in the bottom right corner. The code is ''B+Up together with Start''. A word to the wise, don’t purchase this game if you are not a big fan of Marvel, X-Men, or action games.

Sound- Sound is another good part of the game. The sound effects for the mutant powers seem very accurate. The music is a bit too 'happy' sometimes considering the environments you are presented with. The music was average, but the sound effects were right on the mark.

Overall- All in all, this game is pretty good. It has an adequate challenge, its true to the comics, good game play and sound, and presents the X-Men ion the best way possible at that time. I would recommend this game to all you Die Hards out there.
