"What!! You've never heard of this game....."
Searching the message boards a while ago I found this game.
I couldn't believe that it was one of the most popular boards for NES. So I got a copy of it played it non-stop for several hours, and changed my opinion. I couldn't believe this wasn't the most popular game on NES!
Gameplay: In the very beginning of the game you see a complicated ''real-time'' battle menu pop-up. Turns out the battle system is amazingly simple, but still covers all possible areas. The magic system is great. To learn magic spells, called ''Techs'', you have to find scrolls. Each scroll has the possibility of teaching you any spell in the game, you get to choose. Each character has 4 different spells that they can use. The tech gauge takes time to power up, but powers up quicker as you gain more hp.
Story: This has one of the best stories on NES. Final Fantasy doesn't even come close. Instead of four characters just showing up, 7 characters with backgrounds are found throughout the story. The characters and their personalities even change as you go through the story. You can't get better then this on the NES.
Graphics: As far as the NES goes simply amazing. Detailed characters as well as enemies. Even backgrounds look good. One of the best looking games on the NES.
Music: Nice music. There's more a couple tracks, so you don't find yourself listening to the same song again and again. Nothing mind blowing, but they don't turn you off the game.
Replay Value: This game's addicting, so as soon as you beat it once you will find yourself wanting to play the game again. You can't be sure if you've gotten everything. In fact there's one treasure chest in the game that is unreachable. But you never know....
Overall: Take the best parts of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, and throw in some new aspects and you've got Radia Senki, (translated it is Chronicle of the Radia War.) Go find this game!!
