You Can't Say Nekketsu without saying "'FUN'"!
As I roll along with the old school games, I decided to review this game. I have been wondering for a long time "Where should I start with the Nekketsu Series?" I've Decided to start at Kakutou Densetsu, a very fun and a very addicting up-to-4-players-at-once NES Multiplayer beat'em-up game. Well here we go.
Gameplay-10/10 -This is some very addicting gameplay. It is a solid beat'em-up with a little complexity at first. The regular newbie will only be able to kick, punch, jump, and run, but there is a lot more to this game that meets the eye. While the more complex moves are actually pretty simple to learn its hard to pull them off while going head to head or 2 against 2 in a fierce battle. One hard, but effective, move would be your team's special attack. You have to grapple your teammate and press A when a bar is over the orange bar below the health bar. Sounds confusing doesn't it? Well its actually pretty simple once you finally do it at least 3 times. Did I mention the traps? There are traps in almost every level putting strategy into them. One Level has a bridge that disappears and you fall into spikes. Another has you in a minefield. Then there are tunnels that you can use to evade your opponents. Go in one way, get shot out the other. Another thing to mention would be the pickups. There are plenty in the game but you can only acquire them when a character dies. There are things like a rice roll or a band aide or red or blue pills(sounds like the matrix).
Controls-8/10 -Like I said above, there are plenty of moves to go around in this game. Although its easy to get around, it can be difficult to jump, but that's not really much of a problem when you get into the game. The controls are fluid enough and its pretty fun.
Graphics-9/10 -Back in the day, these were top of the line graphics. People who have played River City Ransom and World Cup Soccer will be familiar with these graphics. The graphics in Nekkestu games are basically the same throughout the whole series, which isn't a bad thing cause these are great.
Sound/Music-9/10 -Well just like the other Nekkestu games, it comes with the same kind of sound effects and music. Its great like the other games. I personally like it.
Story-8/10
-Well I doesn't need a story but it has a tiny one. Kunio is just about to open his locker when suddenly a note flies out talking about a tournament. Kunio leaves in a hurry and drops the letter. Riki finds it on the ground and goes to team up with Kunio. Thus, the tournament begins. There are actually 3 different endings for story mode.
Fun-10/10
-Like stated in the title "You cannot say Nekkestu without saying 'FUN'." This game is very fun. I especially enjoyed it when there is 3 other people tagging along. If you want 4 player action you will have to get an adapter for it.
