Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Review by Edge107
"I'd rather bath in V8 Juice than play this game again"
Attack of the Tomatoes is a below average game for the NES that will leave you thirsting for something other than V8. Why would anyone ever do this to us is a question that should be asked. Anyways, let's just say I hate tomatoes and jump into the review.
Graphics- The graphics in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (which I will be abbreviating to AKT) are pretty good. The colors blend nicely, and the backgrounds, which for the most part are of a city, are relatively convincing. The tomatoes look good as does the random boy who is the character you will be playing as. The objects also look okay, but the objects usually consist of a pipe, hole, or something of the same sort. The boy is very detailed from head to toe, so graphics wise, AKT is pretty good and won't disappoint you like the rest of this game will.
Music- The music is pretty bad, and it gets extremely annoying quickly. I do have to say that it does blend in nicely with the setting of the game, but, like most NES music, it is the same beat over and over again. Needless to say, you will be pushing the mute button within 20 minutes of playing this monstrosity.
Controls- Simple. B jumps, and the arrow buttons make you run in whichever way they point. This game is a side-scroller, so be prepared to hold down the right side of the D-Pad while mashing B as fast as you can. That's about it for controls.
Gameplay- An original title does not always mean original gameplay. You are a random boy running through a city while tomatoes with teeth try to bite a chunk out of you. Why are do these tomatoes have teeth and how did they kill everyone else in the city? Beats me so ask someone else. All you do is run from side to side trying to jump over the killer tomatoes that vary in shape and size. You can kill them by jumping on them, but that is usually unwise as you often miss and land in a pack of the little buggers. This gameplay is way overused and dull, and is somewhat like Super Mario on a very powerful hallucinogen.
Difficulty- This game is very difficult, since you often have 3-6 tomatoes chasing you, a tomato bat swooping down at you (yes, there are tomato bats in this age) , and a pool of slime/harmful substance ahead of you. If you are really intent on beating this game, have a few spare controllers lying around for the ones you will surely break.
Overall, AKT is a pointless game with bad music, stale gameplay, and annoying difficulty. I would recommend not buying/renting/stealing this game under any circumstances. It will only cause you pain.
