Elevator Action
Review by Rottenwood
"An Equal Mix Of Dullness And Repetition"
I'm willing to forgive a game for being technically unimpressive, especially on an eight-bit system. I'm even willing to forgive a game for having a silly title. (Take 'Bubble Bobble,' for instance.) But I cannot, in good conscience, forgive 'Elevator Action,' which is guilty of the above two crimes and many, many more.
Let me cut right to the chase. This game is dull. Very, very dull. You control your little spy as you try to steal some secret plans while avoiding death at the hands of enemy agents. They shoot at you, and you make sure they miss. You can fight back, but trust me, the swifter you can die the better, so you can more readily turn off the NES and bury this game in your backyard where no one will EVER find it.
It wouldn't be fair to critique the graphics in this game; partly because the technology wasn't really much to speak of at the time this game was designed, and partly because critiquing these graphics would be like shooting fish in a barrel.
The less said of the sound, the better.
The game play shows few vital signs. This is one of those games where guys shoot at you, and the bullets move so slowly that you have time to notice them and duck. Just plain pointless.
Some games with repetitive action can be fun (such as Pac-Man), but whatever special ingredient those games have, well, 'Elevator Action' was made without it. I won't give it a one, since I would only give that to a game that is offensive or mean-spirited. 'Elevator Action' is not offensive or mean-spirited. It's just boring.
