"They don't make them like they used to!!"

I'm surprised this game gets so many bad reviews, I really like it. Ghosts 'n Goblins was released back in 1986 and was originally in the arcade. This game is one of the first of it's kind, the only game like this made before it was the original Super Mario Brothers, yet this game has many innovations.

Story-10/10
This game has the most cliched story in all of the video game world, although it wasn't too bad back then. Okay, your a knight and you go out to the graveyard with your girlfriend, then surprisingly she gets kidnapped by a big red demon and then you must save her from the devil.

Graphics-9/10
Very good for the time.

Sound-10/10
The sound is classic in this game. The background music is always good and the music when you die and when your on the map screen is truly classic. The sound effects sound exactly like you think they would.

Control-8/10
The control in this game is good, but not perfect, because you can't change your direction in the middle of a jump.

Game play-10/10
Classic game play all the way. Your a knight with armor and you must travel through six stages running, jumping, and killing monsters. You can pick up different weapons along the way(you start with some pointing needle thing) like some fire throwing thing and an axe. The levels are a graveyard, town. cave, lava area, and the last two levels are in the castle. There is a lot of cool platform jumping in this game, especially in the fourth level. There are also multiple ways to go through a couple of levels(you always end up at the same place at the end of the level).

Challenge-10/10
This game is HARD!!!!!! I am probably one of the few people who has played it all the way through. It is considered one of the hardest games ever and guess what?
To get the true ending you have to beat the game twice. In the sixth level all hell breaks loose. Unfortunately the final boss is the easiest part of the game.

Replay Value-8/10
It matters who you are. I myself think this game is fun to play through multiple times, but most people won't get through it once.

Buy or Rent? Buy if your hardcore and like a challenge, but stay away if you don't like hard games.

One last note, isn't it disturbing that once the knight losses his armor he goes around in red underwear.
