Magician
Review by Jedi Masta
"A very unique RPG"
Introduction:
Alright, why am I writing a review for a practically unknown game on an old console? Because there's so little known about this game. I'll try to explain as much about this game as possible in hopes that you, the reader, learn to like it as much as me.
Story - 6/10:
You play Paul, a Wizard in training, an apprentice. However, the ''Grand Council of Wizards'' was killed by another Wizard named Abadon, who brings his reign of apocalyptic terror to the land. Now, not only do you have to complete your trek to become a fully trained Wizard, but you also have to destroy Abadon at the end of it. It's basically the standard ''kill the evil overlord'' scenario used in so many other games, but with a few changes to make it more interesting. Still, it lacks originality
Gameplay - 9/10:
You start out with no spells, few items, and a wallet stuffed full of cash. Over the coarse of the game, you learn spells let you do things like kill enemies, shield yourself, fly, talk to trees, or even read the credits for the game. Casting spells costs mana, which can be increased through completing tasks and using items. You also have to get food and water every now and then. It can get frustrating to be consistently watching your food/water meters and running out of stuff to eat, though.
During your trek you have to solve puzzles and get certain items to get by. The puzzles in this game are mostly riddles and mazes, but it's far from repetitive. You also fight a variety of monsters, each one with weaknesses and strengths against your attacks, and each one with different attacks of their own. There's an excellent combination of puzzle game, RPG, and action game all in this game.
Graphics - 6/10:
Not so good. The backgrounds look all the same, mostly either full of farms in the distance, or completely dark. Granted, there's a few nice special effects when you cast a spell, but other than that, they weren't great.
Sound 7/10:
The sound effects are good, considering how old the game is. Very nice.
Music 3/10:
Awful. The music is repetitive, annoying, and boring. Plain and simple.
Overall - 8/10:
The gameplay is definitely the best point of this game. It does get frustrating at points, but not frequently. It's a great game, I don't know why it was so unknown and unrecognized.
Buy or Rent
If you can find a copy, buy it. You'll definitely get your money's worth
