Power Punch II
Review by DarkHollywood18
"The Lost Sequel of Punch Out that can stay lost"
The glory does of the Nintendo, who can forget some of the greatest video games of the time, including Punch Out! With a cast of humorous characters and the man himself, Mike Tyson, the game became one of the most popular on the NES, and still remains so today. However, 3 years went by before a sequel was in development. Instead of playing as Little Mac, the scrappy boxer in lime green tights, you control Kid Dynamite himself Mike Tyson. However...the law wasn't in Tyson's corner, and he was sentenced to jail for allegedly raping a contestant in a miss black America beauty contest. With their name in jail, Nintendo pushed the panic button and completely changed things around. You were no longer Mike Tyson. You were Mark Tyler, and you wore PINK, not Black.
Story: 1/10
Mark Tyler is the greatest boxer on earth, who holds a record of 33-0. He offers a challenge to anyone to fight him anytime and anywhere. A bunch of Aliens (oh boy) take him up on his offer, and well, the rest flushes itself. Just plain stupid. Mike Tyson...er...Mark Tyler fighting ugly 2nd rate Aliens. Some story.
The Graphics: 4/10
Compared to the original Punch Out, crappy is the only word. They aren't completely bad, but the small things bother me. The animation for the fight are pretty bad and slow, the Aliens look pathetic, the "arena" looks like a bingo hall, and even Tyler himself looks horrible. I know NES didn't have great graphics, but jeez, the work here was sloppy and lazy. There also appears to be four other characters cheering on "Tyler", who appear to be Don King (without hair), Robin Givens, Cus D'Amato, and Robot Tyson.
The Sound: 1/10
I don't remember a single darn note of music from the game, and I've played it for a few hours, while Punch Out! had a very classic and remember-al tune while in the fight. Another downer.
Controls: 2/10
You'll start getting annoyed when the response time from pressing a button and something actually happens takes forever. Tyler moves horribly slow, making it hard to avoid all kinds of punches from the enemies, and the hit detection is worse than a blind army throwing hand grenades.
Challenge: 10000000/10
This game is just flat out tough. I've played for hours and only gotten to the third fight. THE THIRD FIGHT! I cake walked to King Hippo in Punch Out in my first go. Also the challenge is high because you have to do exceptionally well in the pre-match training, where if you do bad, you suck, and if you do great, you suck, but not as much.
Replay Value: 0/10
You won't want to play this game unless you feel like you REALLY owe Nintendo for releasing such a great game that was the prequel to this mess. I doubt anyone has the nerve except the one person who wrote the FAQ to try and beat this game.
Recommendation:
100 times over I'll say PASS. Even though it's the "Sequel" to Mike Tyson's Punch Out, it's not even worth trying to find a place to download it, let alone buy the original cartridge.
