"Who knows what evil lurks in the carts of Color Dreams? THE SHADOW KNOWS!! *scary laughter*"
I find it strange that a game like Raid 2020 carries a drug message, since the programmers were obviously high on something when they coded it. I guess glue fumes don't count as drugs, so I'll look the other way.
It's not like the anti-drug message is strong here anyway, except for the line on the title screen that says "Winners Fight Drugs" I wouldn't even know that there WAS any Anti-drug anything about this game.
And what's with "winners fight drugs" anyway? It doesn't say anything about not doing drugs, you just have to FIGHT them afterwards. Like what, am I supposed to go around kicking the crap out of crack pipes? And the whole point of the game is to shoot anyone who does drugs. Okay, never mind, there is no anti-drug message. It's all about picking fights with drug dealers, THAT's how to be a winner.
Okay, the first board involves avoiding mines and shooting a bunch of drug dealers. If you don't kill them all, you need to go back, but at least you don't need start over again, everyone who got blasted in the first round is gone. Now, you'd think that the gun-totin' maniacs would be your biggest threat, right? Nope. The biggest problem is the seagulls, birds, and beetles that seem to be flying around the level. Yep, you heard right. Now, the drug dealers don't come back, but in the year 2020 animals somehow found a way to reproduce by magically appearing out of thin air. This is annoying to a level I can't possibly explain, and many a time I've been killed when I jumped and POOF! A gull appears right in front of me and I fall into the water.
Let's see, which hurts more, being shot in the chest at point-blank range or having a beetle fly into you?
Guess color dreams didn't know, 'cause they both do the same amount of damage. and the birds have the nasty habit of waling on the very bottom of the screen Cheetahmen II style so you can't hit them, but they can kill you.
The next level involves boating in a river where you will be killed many times by invincible gun turrets. I have yet to make it past here.
Just as a side note, there's a really fun glitch where you can ride on the heads of everyone in the game. It's not good, though, I've tried to jump and winded up on the back of a bug that carried me away, smashing me into seagulls.
This game was made in 1989, but it has the graphics of a 1985 release. The seagulls look like they have horn-rimmed glasses, the other kind of unrecognizable bird is a blob, and the bugs are dots.
The music is so bad that the mute button will have no effect as the badness will destroy the button, and you'll find yourself tearing the speakers out of your TV.
The beginning sound like random notes, but after a while of painful listening, I found a pattern. Or not. Actually, music started playing in my head 'cause I went insane.
A drug lord has taken over the world and some guy named shadow needs to kill all the drug dealers in the world. Yeah, we're supposed to believe that some guy who can get killed by a ladybug is gonna beat a world-dominating army. Yeah, it helps that the army is made up of mindless idiots who can't fight to save their lives.
controls? what controls? Your character obviously thinks he knows better than you, so he ignores what you say does whatever he wants. In the beginning, walking up means walking back at a diagonal, meaning you'll step on lots of mines. In the boat world, you run into currents that will sometimes do nothing and sometimes smash you into a rock.
R8ing: Ever wondered what NARC would look like if it was coded by a junkie in the pot-smoke filled bathroom of a Pink Floyd concert? Wonder no more!
NO!! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!! IT'S BAD!!! If you want to discourage kids from doing drugs, buy something that will discourage them from doing drugs, not this. I actually bought this game for a nickel, and I still regret it.
