Bionic Commando
Review by bruplex
"Carrot top is that you?"
Bionic Commando is a loose sequel to Capcom's Commando, though the two games play nothing alike. In Bionic Commando, you are assigned to rescue the hero of Commando, Commando Joe. You do this by utilizing your new go-go gadget bionic arm and your normal gun. Then you must go to assorted areas and battle the evil army. Eventually you have to face what appears to be Adolph Hitler in a big helicopter. When you kill him ( with one well timed shot!) his face explodes and you save the day. After that you must settle down and live a peaceful life because there are no sequels after this ( at least for THIS particular bionic warrior!!)
Graphics=7.6 Outside of the hero looking like comedian Carrot Top, the graphics aren't too bad. The backgrounds are plain and industrial and the enemies are kind of generic, but nothing looks bad ( except for Hitler's face when you blow him up!)
Sound=7.0 Standard NES fare. No ultra-memorable tunes here, though the music doesn't take away from anything. I wish they had put a remix of the Commando music, which was VERY basic and kind of cool!
Challenge=7.8 It takes a while to actually play through and get all the bonus items. Normal length for an adventure game from this day and age, I suppose.
Control=8.3 The Bionic arm is neat, though unwieldy at times. Your hero is relatively responsive, though I wish his gun fired just a tad quicker!
Story=5.0 Rescue the war hero-- *yawn* at least he isn't princess war-hero!
Overall=7.2 Bionic Commando is fun, but not quite a classic. Certain gamers may find it long or boring, but it IS shorter than games like Rygar or TMNT. A good pick up but not a must have.
