Quake
Review by MrSherlockHolmes
"Quake is the king of shooters."
I know that you might think I just got Quake, due to me posting this in 2004, but I got it in 1996. I got it at a Wal Mart, and after picking it up the store's power went out. Man, the memories. Anyway, read on to see what you've been missing out on.
Gameplay: It's shoot 'em up action, coupled with the rejecting environments the game has makes it a true classic. You have a variety of several weapons, and there are several powerups. The enemies you face might seem twisted, but after you blast them with your cool arsenal of weapons, they seem like pathetic little fleas....unless you play the game on Nightmare difficulty. The levels
might start out slow, but after a while the enemies start pouring in! Really, this is fun gameplay, and it's better than most of the games we have today.2/2
Story: Some guy (or thing) named Quake tampers with a teleporting system at a place simply known as HQ. Then he sends in an army of demons, and the Earth turns to you to go into the demon world to stop this. It's not that detailed, but it's good.2/2
Graphics: Now, of course, they're not impressive. But I remember back then.....they owned. the only games I did before Quake were Myst, Terminal Velocity, and Lego Island. Myst was cool......but about Quake: It was full 3D!With dynamic lighting....realistic looking enemies,if I wrote this back then...then it would get..2/2
Sound: Some people don't like the music, but I think it matches the mood of the game. All the music is creepy...with weird sounds and stuff like that.......but it matches the demonic castle lands you go through. Also the sounds of the enemies can be creepy or disturbing..really good sounds! But I really don't get the sound it plays when you jump. It doesn't sound like a man or a women...but it's okay!2/2
Replayability: I'll give you a hint...I've been replaying this since 1996! You'll want to play it on all skill levels, then keep playing it on Easy after that! Also in this game, using the console, you can record yourself playing then watch it (look in the readme to know how), and I've recorded something like 30 demos!2/2
Final score: 10/10
