Review by Last Avenger

"Wow... a real step up from Sim Theme Park, that' s for sure!"

This game is a lot of fun. I mean it in every sense of the word. Once you really get a feel for the game, you can make some of the best rides around. But read this review to decide whether you might like it.
GRAPHICS: 8/10
The guests are pretty average, they have a walking motion, barfing motion, riding motion, etc. The rides are pretty well animated too, though a lot of action slows the game down at some points (this also happens when you have an underground view.) The paths are pretty good too, there are a few different styles to choose from. Altogether, there's nothing great about the graphics but they're by no means bad.
SOUND/MUSIC: 9/10
The music is fine, actually there isn't much at all except for the Merry-go-round. The sounds are not bad at all; in fact they're pretty good. You can hear the general hustle-and-bustle when you're over a main section, you can hear rides clacking on roller coasters, people screaming as they plunge downward... it does get a tad annoying, but then again they do add to the atmosphere... I can almost smell the spilled popcorn.
STORY: N/A
This is a sim game. You're an aspiring Roller Coaster Tycoon (notice the name) and you want to build a theme park, or the ultimate ride, or whatever. This game doesn't have a story or plot at all.
GAMEPLAY: 9/10
This game is definitely a winner. You have a lot of flexibity, down to choosing the uniforms of your staff, adding many different types of trees, etc. You can see what each and every guest is carrying, or you can make the rides different colors. This game is very customizable.
When it comes to the rides, RCT doesn't fail to deliver in the slightest. Many rides can be built as you want them. Roller coasters can go up, plunge downward, go underground, loop and corkscrew... it's amazing. Car rides can also go underground, as can go karts and a number of other things. I will often go back to the first few scenarios and try to build an even better roller coaster, just because it's so fun to do.
And the game isn't about making 1,000 foot drops either. Rides that are too intense won't get many visitors at all, and those that aren't intense like monorails can be made exciting if there's a lot of scenery involved, or if it goes on a tour of the park. The AI for the guests is very realistic, and there are so many ways to get them to do what you want it's not even funny. You can advertise your park in many ways, or you can take a loan from the bank, rebuild rides... there's a huge amount of possibilities in this game. There are almost no bugs at all (I haven't encountered any, but I bet there's something in there that doesn't work quite right.)
CHALLENGE: 8/10
Once you get the game down, it's not hard at all. Unfortunately, it takes a few days to get a feel for the controls, and ride designs can be especially confusing. But all you really have to do is stick with it, and you'll get it eventually.
REPLAY VALUE: 9/10
You can go back to a park and improve it, or you might want to build a better coaster or car ride or entire park, there are a lot of ways to play this game over and over.
OVERALL: 9/10
I highly recommend this game. It has great gameplay and good replay value, with good sound and graphics on the side. It should be really cheap at this point. Buy the game. It's worth it. Fare thee well.
