Planescape: Torment
Review by Dosferra
"A great game but it does not reach Baldur's godhood"
In this review I will compare this game many times with Baldur's Gate, this is because, they both have the same creators and they games are almost exact copys of eachother.
First, I don't even think this game is a game by it self, ut's more like an expansion to Baldur's Gate. This is because the graphics and sound are almost identical.
OK let's begin
Story
The story in Plainescape: Torment is acctualy a bit better then the one in Baldur's Gate. Here you have about eight diffrent characters to choose among and all of them have a good and well thought story and backround, not to name the main character which has one of the most impressive storys I have ever heard. You play as a imortal which suffers from amisia. This means that I can not rember who he is or what he is. And that what your trying to figure out during the game, aswell as all the small quests you get from diffrent people all over the game, from a simple man who wishes to get a costume to a street wall which wishes to give birth to a alley. The story is well worth a big golden ''10''.
Graphics
The graphics in this game is based on the same praphics motor as Baldur's Gate but since the guys at Black Isle have learnd to master is a bit more the graphics is a bit better. But it's still nothing fantastic, but I think it's more then enough for a RPG game of this sort. It gets a ''8''.
Sound
Well the sound effects are perfect for all the spells and such, but the really impressive are the voices to the diffrent main characters, they are so spliendedly done. They have really worked on the voices that is plain as the day. The sound get a ''9''.
Controlls and such
Well there are only simple point and click controlls and every thing else in game as you conclude it thoghter deserve a ''9''.
What they did wrong
Well the game feels way to claustraphobic. In 2/3 of the game you can only venture inside of a city, the city is big of course but that was the wonderfull felling in Baldur's Gate. That you could just roam the plains for hours and still find alot of thing to there. And the game must have been made in a hurry because I have found several bugs in it, like you can talk over and over with a woman and get money all the time from here and stuff like that. And just one last thing the weapons in the game are strange. YOU CAN NOT BUY SWORDS!!! Atleast not at any place I have looked. You can buy daggers and knives but not swords. The game is way to easy and it only took me 5 days to finsh compared to the 2 month Baldur's Gate took me the first time. O well...
I'll just say buy this game and wait for Baldur's Gate 2.
