MDK
Review by PhildotheGreat
"Shooting brain-dead aliens is great fun!"
MDK is quite possibly the uniquest game I have ever played. It combines Shiny humor and challenge with shooting aliens. This is a game I would recommend to almost all gamers, although it is somewhat bloody and gory.
Game Play
The game play in this game is sweet! There is so much variety you just want to play over and over again. There are many different weapons (technically it's just different ammo because the giant gun attached to your head fires them all) including sniper ammo, explosive ammo like grenades, bombs that you can through or use strategically (like the worlds most amazing bomb which amazes the enemies to the point where they watch it until it explodes and puts them all over the walls), and also little items like fakes of yourself you can throw to draw enemy fire (it's a blow up of yourself but it looks nothing like you and they still fire at it instead of you). There is another feature of the game that is cool also, the little cape on your back allows you to float for long distances and you can also use it to carry you places when there is a current of air somewhere in the level (there is one level where you are in a cylindrical room with platforms around the outside of it and
you use the air current in the middle of the room to rise up and shoot all the aliens on the platforms). And the game comes with humor as well. You can drop cows on the enemies and the final boss is quite funny when you figure out how to kill it (it seems pretty obvious but I don't want to spoil anything for you gamers out there.) The only reason I gave it a nine instead of a ten was because it wasn't long enough. I think they should have a few more levels although it wasn't too short either. The levels are plenty challenging though, when you get to the later levels you have less time to save the cities and the enemies get harder too, making it pretty challenging.
Story
I am not exactly sure about the entire story but here goes. You are a super hero of some sort trying to save some select cities from evil aliens that come to planets to eat and then leave. The aliens however aren't that smart and can be confused easily with the help of some cool inventions made by this old professor guy you know in the game. Also there is a dog with a bunch of arms that helps you on the way. In the first level you get his power up and he drops bombs on some of the tanks. I probably left out some stuff but when you buy the game you can read the instruction booklet and it probably tells you a lot about the story (I don't have the instruction booklet because I bought the game used and the instruction booklet wasn't in the game box).
Audio/Video
The graphics are great in this game. The levels are all pretty different with different backgrounds and some pretty weird buildings with weird drawings on the walls and stuff.
Nice detail on the enemies and on the main character. All the different enemies are very unique, and have a wide variety of attacks. When you zoom in on the enemies you can see them bouncing around and having a good time and then you shoot them and their head pops off, heh heh. They have some cool sound effects for the enemies and nice explosions
too. They scream and make noises when you shoot at them and also when you drop bombs on them they yell and duck. This proves to be hilarious and witty time and time again.
Replay
With the variety of the game you will keep playing for quite a while and you eventually find out secrets about the game and easy ways to kill your enemies. The cow drop power up and the crazy aliens never cease to amaze me and make me laugh. Even after you beat the game you still want to play it some more. I’ve probably beaten the game around four times, and it’s great.
Overall
So the game gets a nine because of the variety and game play and it would have gotten a ten had it been longer. The first time through, it may take a while to get through the levels, but then when you get to the last one it’s like, that’s it? But it's definitely a game you would want to buy if you are a fan of blood, gore and shooting games. Also now look for MDK 2 which has been out for some time.
