SimCity 2000
Review by thesampleman
"Building a city was never more fun!"
Sim City 2000 is one of those games that you think are going to boring. Then you go and install it in your computer and you find out that you are sadly mistaken. This game is a gem and a marvelous example of pure outright genius on the part of Will Wright.
GRAPHICS
For the time that this game came out, the graphics are pretty good. The graphics are good enough to allow you to see windows on the buildings, the buildings height and the sheer sense that it takes up space. All the buildings are designed with little details on them such as the little light on top of the Braun Llama Dome or the little pond in front of your mayor's mansion. The disasters are nicely animated and designed. The downside is that you really can not see cars moving, they are all blobs moving on the roads, and the rioters are just little sprite sticks moving around, but as I mentioned for when it came out these things were pretty darn good.
SOUND
This part of the game annoyed me and I am constantly turning off the sound of my computer. It's just not at all good and I was not impressed by any of it.
CONTROLS
Everything is simple to place. Navigating the menus with the mouse is easy and intuitive. In fact the mouse really reacts well throughout the gaming experience.
Learning the controls is super simple, and in no time you'll be building your first metropolis.
GAME PLAY
The game play in this game is addictive. You set the budget, get started working and become engrossed in building your city. Everything that you do in this game is up to you. I mean you could build a mega city and then cause it to burn down if you want to. The game plays however you want it to. You can even build small mini cities and go through the game as a small town mayor. You can tinker around with all different sorts of things. However, eventually the game gets a little stale and you find there is nothing more that you can think of to do. This game is challenging to the newcomer, it takes budget management skills, city planning skills, and a little patience to succeed in Sim City 2000.
VERDICT
This game is a buy if you want to see how a good retro city simulator is. It has a lot built into it, considering at the time it was pushing some computers to their limits (such as mine). It is, in my opinion, the best city simulator you can buy.
