Deus Ex Augmentation List

If you've played Deus Ex before (and why else would you be reading this?), then
you know that it's a massive game. I've played through it probably close to a
hundred times and I'm _still_ finding new stuff. But possibly the most important
things to look for are the augmentation canisters. They give JC superhuman
abilities that can help get him out of a jam, and they're pretty fun, too. But
in such a huge game, you're bound to miss one or two of them.

So I've assembled a list of all the augmentation canisters and upgrade 
canisters that can be found throughout the game. Directly below is a list of 
all the augmentation canisters in the order that they are found, and below that
is a list of the augmentation upgrade canisters in the order that they appear.
For each canister I've given the general area in which it is found, the specific
location, and details about how to get it. For the augmentation canisters I've
also listed which aug(s) can be found at that location. Altogether there are
twenty aug canisters and twenty upgrades, but one of the upgrades is not 
accessible in a regular game. More on that below.

 Augmentation Canisters
------------------------

Area: Liberty Island
Location: Statue of Liberty
Augmentation: Microfibral Muscle / Combat Strength
Details: This is the first augmentation you can get, and probably the easiest.
         It's sitting on a crate at the top of the Statue of Liberty, in the
         room where the NSF commander is at. This is the only chance you'll
         have to get this aug, so be sure to grab it!

Area: Battery Park
Location: Castle Clinton
Augmentation: Environmental Resistance / Aqualung
Details: This canister is found inside Castle Clinton, in the small room
         containing the security computer. Underneath the left desk is a safe
         containing the aug. The safe key is located on the NSF trooper
         patrolling around the corner and down the stairs. There is no key for
         the room itself, however, so you'll have to either pick or smash the
         door. 

Area: Hell's Kitchen
Location: NSF Warehouse Basement
Augmentation: Speed Enhancement / Run Silent
Details: This augmentation canister is located in the basement of the NSF
         warehouse containing the generator. In the northwest section, there is
         a small room containing a security computer and a desktop computer.
         Under the desk is a safe containing the aug. There's no key, so you'll
         need to either pick the lock or blow the door off.

Area: NSF Airfield
Location: Lebedev's Jet
Augmentation: Ballistic Protection / EMP Shield
Details: This aug can be found onboard Lebedev's 747. Go down into the cargo bay
         and you'll find the aug in a suspension crate in the back. The code for
         the crate is 9905.

Area: UNATCO HQ
Location: Med Center
Augmentation: Speed Enhancement / Run Silent
Details: Upon your return from the airfield mission, head for Jaime's medical
         closet. The aug can be found on a cart inside. If you want to get into
         the closet without picking or destroying the door, you'll need to have
         picked up the key from the bookcase next to Jaime's desk the first time
         you visited the HQ.

Area: NYC MJ12 Base
Location: Laboratory
Augmentation: Aggressive Defense System / Spy Drone
Details: During your escape from the MJ-12 base in New York, locate the
         laboratory office containing two scientists and a Man in Black sitting
         at a desk. The canister is located in a suspension crate in this room.
         The code, strangely enough, is the same as the one for the crate on
         Lebedev's plane: 9905. Perhaps both crates came off of the shipment
         that the NSF raided at the beginning of the game?

Area: UNATCO HQ
Location: Med Center
Augmentation: Regeneration / Energy Shield
Details: When you escape from the MJ-12 base and reach UNATCO HQ, be sure to
         talk to Jaime in the med center. He has this augmentation canister for
         you.

Area: Hong Kong
Location: Versalife Lab (Level 1)
Augmentations: Cloak / Radar Transparency
               Aggressive Defense System / Spy Drone
               Vision Enhancement / Targeting
Details: These augs can all be found in the magnetic testing chamber in the
         Versalife labs during your first visit. There are lots of ways to get
         into the chamber. There's a key on a table in the room at the top of
         the elevator, or you can use the code 5878 on the keypad. The code to
         the keypad inside is 43212, but be warned that this doesn't open all
         of the containment pods, nor does it deactivate the radiation. By far
         the best way to get these augs is to hack the nearby computer (or log
         in using the username MChow and password DAMOCLES) to open the
         doors and pods and deactivate the radiation all at once.

Area: Hong Kong
Location: Versalife Lab (Level 2)
Augmentations: Speed Enhancement / Run Silent
               Environmental Resistance / Aqualung
               Power Recirculator / Synthetic Heart
Details: When you return to Versalife to investigate the level 2 labs, keep an
         eye out for these augs in the small room at the center of the large
         silo-like area. You can open all the pods at once by using the
         security computer above (login MJ12, password RESEARCH), or you can
         use the keypads and open them individually. The northeast pod's code
         is 02, the southeast one is 03, and the southwest one is 04. (The
         fourth pod, containing an aug upgrade canister, uses the code 01.)
         Alternatively, you can wait until after you destroy the UC, at which
         point the canisters will drop to the bottom of the silo and land in
         the water at the bottom of the pipes in the floor.

Area: Brooklyn Naval Shipyard
Location: Commander's Office
Augmentation: Environmental Resistance / Aqualung
Details: This aug canister is in a safe in the base commander's office, which
         has been appropriated by Walton Simons. The safe doesn't have a key,
         so either pick the lock or blow it up.

Area: Brooklyn Naval Shipyard
Location: PRCS Wall Cloud (Below decks)
Augmentation: Cloak / Radar Transparency
Details: This canister is in a storage room in the below decks area of the
         PRCS Wall Cloud. You can get there by jumping across the rising and
         falling bilge pumps after turning them on (the code to the door on
         the other side is 8642) or you can crawl through some vents. The code
         to the storage room itself is 9999.

Area: Paris
Location: Chateau DuClare Basement
Augmentation: Aggressive Defense System / Spy Drone
Details: This canister is in a containment field in the computer room in the
         basement of Chateau DuClare. It can be opened by the security computer
         down the hall (login bduclare, password nico_devil) or by the keypad
         on the crate itself with the code 1784. (Incidentally, 1784 is the 
         year in which Adam Weishaupt's Illuminati were exiled from Bavaria.)

Area: Paris
Location: Everett's Laboratory
Augmentation: Ballistic Protection / EMP Shield
              Vision Enhancement / Targeting
Details: These canisters are both in the same containment field in Everett's
         lab. The code for the keypad is 2384, or you can use the nearby
         security computer (login meverett, password pynchon) to disable the
         field.

Area: Vandenberg Air Force Base
Location: Hazard Lab
Augmentation: Cloak / Radar Transparency
Details: This augmentation is sitting on a counter in the flooded Vandenberg
         hazard lab, located on the south end of the base. Beware of the
         electrified water.

Area: Area 51
Location: Sector Two Barracks
Augmentation: Regeneration / Energy Shield
Details: This canister is found in one of the beds in the Area 51 barracks,
         The code for the unit is 3901. Watch out for the unhappy greasel 
         inside.

 Upgrade Canisters
-------------------

Area: Hell's Kitchen
Location: Osgood & Sons
Details: This canister is in a locked closet in the Osgood & Sons building. The
         code is 6549. 

Area: NSF Helibase
Location: Security Room
Details: On the second floor of the helibase, there's a room with a security
         computer in it. Look in the southeast corner of the room and, behind
         a plant, you'll find a button that causes to bookcase to swing aside,
         revealing a secret room. The canister is on the counter inside.

Area: Hell's Kitchen
Location: Paul's Apartment
Details: When you return to Hell's Kitchen for the second time (when sending
         the NSF signal), check Paul's secret compartment for the canister.
         The keypad is behind the painting, as before, and the code is 4321.

Area: UNATCO HQ
Location: Armory
Details: During your escape from UNATCO, Sam Carter will give you access to the
         armory. The canister is on one of the shelves inside.

Area: Hong Kong
Location: Collapsed Tunnel
Details: Go to the canal area of Hong Kong, and locate the Old China Hand bar.
         Go through the rear door and into the freezer, then climb the crates
         and enter the ventilation duct. Follow the duct until it leads to a
         maintenance shaft that connects to the flooded part of the tunnel.
         Swim into the main part of the tunnel, then head west until you 
         reach the collapsed part. There is a dead scientist in the rubble;
         search him to get the upgrade.


Area: Hong Kong
Location: Versalife Lab (Level 2)
Details: This canister is in the UC room along with three augmentation
         canisters. See the section above for more specific directions. The
         code to the keypad is 01, or you can open it with the security
         computer (login MJ12, password RESEARCH).

Area: Hong Kong
Location: Tong's Laboratory
Details: Just before leaving Hong Kong, head down to Tong's infirmary. If you
         told Jaime to come to Hong Kong with you, he'll be here now, and will
         give you an upgrade canister.

Area: Brooklyn Naval Shipyards
Location: PRCS Wall Cloud Laboratory
Details: On the northwest side of the Wall Cloud's lowest deck, there is a
         small laboratory. The canister is in the safe on the counter. There's
         no key, so either pick the lock or smash it.

Area: NYC Cemetery
Location: Dowd's Safe
Details: Near Dowd's computer, there is a plaque on the wall with his name on
         it. Move the plaque aside and you'll reveal a safe containing the
         upgrade. No key for this one either, so you'll have to do it the hard
         way.

Area: Paris
Location: Chateau DuClare Basement
Details: In Beth DuClare's underground computer room, you'll find this canister
         in a containment field along with an augmentation canister. The code
         is 1784, or you can deactivate the field using the security computer
         down the hall (login bduclare, password nico_devil).
         
Area: Paris
Location: Everett's Laboratory
Details: This upgrade is in a containment field in Everett's
         lab. The code for the keypad is 6426, or you can use the nearby
         security computer (login meverett, password pynchon) to disable the
         field.


Area: Vandenberg Air Force Base
Location: Communications Building
Details: This canister can be found in the second locker from the left in the
         back of the comm building. Once again, there's no key, so get to
         smashing or picking.

Area: Vandenberg Air Force Base
Location: Underground Tunnels
Details: In the Vandenberg tunnels, enter the flooded generator room, either
         through the vents or the main door (code 2129). Swim to the bottom of
         the stairwell and through the door there (code 2134), and floating
         inside will be a dead mechanic. Search him for the canister.

Area: Ocean Lab
Location: Manufacturing Level
Details: In the lowest level of the Ocean Lab, there is a large lift that goes
         up to the UC. In the water adjacent to the lift is the body of an MiB.
         Search him for the upgrade canister.

Area: Sub Base
Location: Command Module Roof
Details: If you saved Tiffany, Gary Savage will give this upgrade canister to
         you before you leave for the missile silo.

Area: Area 51
Location: Command Building basement
Details: This canister is in the basement of the command building found in the
         northeast corner of Area 51. The code to the cubby is 9378.

Area: Area 51
Location: Sector 2 Barracks
Details: When you get the sector 3 key from the dead scientist in the barracks,
         grab the upgrade canister, too; it's on the shelf next to him. The
         code for the unit is 0169.

Area: Area 51
Location: Sector 3
Details: This canister is found in Station 17, at the top of the stairwell in
         the first large room of sector 3. The code to the cubby is the same as
         the one on the surface, 9378. Alternatively, you can open it using the
         security computer in that room (login Area51, password bravo13).

Area: Area 51
Location: Sector 4 Incubation Chamber
Details: The final augmentation upgrade is at the beginning of sector 4. Search
         one of the dead scientists in the room with the incubation tubes to
         get it.

 The Last Upgrade
------------------

Area: Hell's Kitchen
Location: Smuggler's Hideout
Details: If you saved Ford Schick the first time you were in Hell's Kitchen,
         he's _supposed_ to be waiting for you in Smuggler's hideout each
         time you visit afterwards, but due to a bug he fails to appear. If
         you summon him by using the 'summon FordSchick' command, you can chat
         with him. If you talk to him when you return to Hell's Kitchen later in
         the game to find Stanton Dowd, Schick will tell you that he has an
         augmentation upgrade canister for you. However, due to yet another bug,
         he doesn't actually give it to you, so if you really want it, you'll
         have to summon it as well.
         
         Note that both of these bugs have been fixed in the Shifter mod, made
         by yukichigai. Shifter also fixes a number of other bugs and makes
         several minor gameplay changes to improve the DX experience. I highly
         recommend it. The latest version can be found here:
