F.A.Q.
------

Q: How many matches can I play against Gelrood/Toll Apkar/Kudos?
A: Gelrood - at least 28 matches
Toll Apkar - at least 25 matches
Kudos - at least 25 matches
-----
Q: What is the prize you win from Kudos?
A: Originally I thought the prize was a Sith Assassin Pistol. It's also been
posted that the prize was a Vibration Cell, a lightsaber crystal, etc. The
correct prize is a Vibration Cell. The other reported objects are probably
from the Dark Jedi encounter which includes a Sith Assassin Pistol and
   lightsaber crystals.
-----
Q: Where is Yavin?
A: Yavin is currently only available for the PC version of KOTOR. Yavin is
in the upper left corner of the Galaxy Map.
-----
Q: What happens after I win the 10 matches against Suvam Tam?
A: Suvam Tam will give a 20% discount on the price of items you can buy
from him. For example, the Light Exoskeleton costs 10,000c. After you
beat Suvam 10 times more than you lose, the Light Exoskeleton costs
   8,000c.

This doesn't change the sell amount for items that you sell to Suvam.
For example, Suvam will buy a Computer Spike for 162 credits. After
winning 10 more matches than you lose, Suvam buys a Computer Spike for
   162 credits.

The 20% Pazaak discount replaces the 5% Force Persuade discount.

[01. Pazaak Rules]
===============================================================================

------------
Introduction
------------
Pazaak is a card game similar to blackjack. The goal of Pazaak is to have the
total of your face up cards be greater than the total of your opponent's cards
while not going over a total of 20. A round of Pazaak is called a set. You
need to win three sets to win a match.

-----------
Pazaak deck
-----------
You need a Pazaak deck to play. The Pazaak deck is made up of a Main Deck and
a Side Deck. You can buy a basic Pazaak deck for 50 credits from Garouk on
Taris in the Upper City Cantina. You can also buy a Pazaak deck on Kashyyyk,
Manaan, and Tatooine. There is also a Pazaak deck available as loot towards
the end of the game. You need a Pazaak deck in order to buy cards from Uriah
on Taris.

The Main Deck is made up of 40 cards. There are 4 cards each with a value from
[+1] to [+10]. There are four [+1] cards, four [+2] cards, etc. However, the
cards in the main deck are randomly generated by the computer during the match.

From the Bioware forums:
http://swforums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html?topic=282794&forum=27
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and to answer the original question the "deck" isn't actually a deck. Each
draw is a random number generated from between 1 and 10. In theory, you could
draw 1 nine times in a row. However, if you wish to make your own version of
the deck you could simply use four cards of 1-10 as the "main deck" for each
player, and have each player reshuffle his main deck after every set.

Drew [Karpyshyn]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The basic Side Deck starts with ten cards. There are two cards each with a
value from [+1] and [+5]. There are two [+1] cards, two [+2] cards, etc. Side
Deck cards can have a value between [+1] to [+6] or [-1] to [-6]. There are
also some cards that can be either a positive or a negative value between
[+/-1] to [+/-6].

You can buy additional cards for your Side Deck from merchants, find cards as
loot, or win cards from other players. There is no limit to how many cards you
can have in your Side Deck.

----------------
Starting a match
----------------
At the beginning of the match, you make a wager. The wager can be between
1 credit and 750 credits. Some players will have a limit on how much they
wager for each match. There is no wager when playing a tutorial or a practice
match.

After making a wager, you select ten cards to form your Side Deck during the
match. Four cards from the ten cards you selected will be randomly dealt to
you as your hand for the match.

-------------
Playing a Set
-------------
You always start each set. The 40 cards in your Main Deck are shuffled and
one random card is dealt face up.

You have three choices each turn.

1) You can play one of the side cards from your hand.
-The value of a [+] blue card will be added to your total.
-A [-] red card will be subtracted from your total.
-A [+/-] mixed card can be played either as a positive or negative value.
If a [+/-] card is going to be a positive value then it will have a blue
box at the top. If a [+/-] card is going to be played as a negative value
the top of the card will be red. You can [FLIP] a [+/-] card before playing
it. Once a [+/-] card has been played you cannot change it between
    negative and positive.
-You can only play one card from your hand each turn.
-You can only play each card in your hand once during the entire match.
-After playing a side card, you have to [END TURN] or [STAND].
-Playing a card from your hand is optional.

2) You can [END TURN]. The opponent will play a turn. Then you will draw
a random card from your Main Deck at the beginning of your next turn.

3) You can [STAND]. You don't draw any more cards and you can't play any
additional cards from your hand. A player automatically stands once the
face up total equals 20 or after being dealt/playing a total of nine
   cards.

Players continue to alternate turns until the set ends.

A set ends when both players stand or one player ends a turn with a total
greater than 20. The player with the highest total not exceeding 20 wins the
set. A set can end in a tie.

After the end of a set, a new set is dealt. However, you are not dealt
additional cards from your Side Deck between sets.

You can press the [ESC] key at any time to forfeit the match.

The first player to win three sets wins the match and the wager.

[02. Pazaak Strategy]
===============================================================================

-----
Wager
-----
Always wager the maximum for each match.

------------------------
Side Deck card selection
------------------------
Select side deck cards in this order:
1) [+/-] mixed cards
2) [-] negative cards
3) [+] positive cards

A selection of multiple [+/-2], [+/-3], and [+/-4] cards makes a strong Side
Deck against most opponents. Use [+/-1] cards when playing against Fodo Medoo
in the final match, Toll Apkar, Kudos in the later matches, and Suvam Tam.
These opponents are more likely to stand on a 19.

--------
Strategy
--------
Always [End Turn] when your total is 10 or less.

Try to play side deck cards in this order:
1) [+] positive cards
2) [-] negative cards
3) [+/-] mixed cards

Try not to play more than one side card during a set unless you are about to
lose the match. For example, if the opponent has 20 and has won 2 sets then
play as many cards as you need to play to try to win or tie the set. However,
if the opponent has 20 and has only won 1 set or no sets then don't play
multiple side cards trying to get your total to 20.

If your total goes over 20 (a bust) before the opponent stands, try to get your
total as close to 20 as possible with one side card then [stand]. If you are
about to lose the match play as many side cards as you need.

If you don't have any cards left in your hand and the opponent has chosen to
stand, always [stand] on a tie. Opponents rarely stand on values under 15 if
they still have side deck cards available. If nobody has any side deck cards
left, you are at a disadvantage. As long as the opponent has a value of less
than 10, continue to [end turn]. If you are up 2-0 or 2-1 in the match,
continue to [end turn] until you bust. If the match is even (0-0 or 1-1) or
close (1-0 or 0-1), think about standing once your total and the opponent's
total go over 10. Either player can bust at that point, but the match will
continue.

If you are up 2-0 or 2-1 in the match don't play any cards from your hand
unless the opponent stands. If the opponent stands on 20 before you stand,
continue to [end turn] until you bust. Don't play any cards from your hand.
If the opponent stands on less than 20 before you, play a card from your
hand to win. If you can't win the set, don't play any cards from your hand
and bust instead.

If the match is even or close, you will usually play a card from your hand
depending on the situation. If the opponent stands on 20 before you stand, try
to tie the set. Playing a side card for a tie is optional. If the opponent has
more side deck cards, you may want to bust and save your side cards for the
next set. If you have more side decks cards, go ahead and play one for a tie.
Play a card from your hand to get to 20 if the opponent has already played a
side deck card to get to 20.

If the match is even or close and the opponent stands on less than 20 before
you stand, you now have an opening to win the set. If the opponent has more
side deck cards, immediately [stand] on a tie that doesn't use any of your
side deck cards. Otherwise, play a side card to win or tie the set.

When you should stand on less than 20:
1) Your opponent has no cards left in their hand
2) You are winning the match and have less cards in your hand than the opponent
3) You have no cards left in your hand
4) You have only [+] cards left in your hand and you're not about to lose the
   match
5) You have a total of 19, can't make 20 or come down from a bust

===============================================================================
[05. Pazaak Players]
===============================================================================

Some Pazaak players will only play a certain number of matches. The exact
number of matches is determined by the net number of wins you have against
that Pazaak player. Net wins means total number of wins not number of wins in
a row. You can play one match at a time or play multiple matches in one
session. You can quicksave before a match and quickload if you lose.

For example, if you win 5 more matches than you lose against Niklos he will
stop playing matches against you. Your overall record could be 5-0 or 205-200.

Other Pazaak players will change the wager limit after you win a certain
number of matches. Again, this means net number of wins. So when playing
against Sol'aa he will have a max wager of 120c per match until you win 5
matches. You could be 5-0 or 5-200. You could win 4 matches then lose the next
ten matches then win the fifteenth match. After your fifth win Sol'aa will
change the wager of the next match.

When some players run out of money after losing a certain number of matches
they will offer to wager cards instead of credits. If you lose the match you
won't lose any items or credits. You can continue playing until you win their
cards.

Taris
-Garouk, Upper City Cantina
