Praetorians is a great strategy game with lots of formations, special units, and lots of other things that will not dissapoint strategy game lovers!
Graphics are very good but they could use a little more anti-aliasing for those jagged edges. the units animation is good, the terrain is also very good, for example, the trees and the grass move with the breeze. Also when units go into forests, you can see birds fleeing from them, thus giving you the hint that enemy units may be hiding in a nearby forest. Very detailed!
The music is well appropriate to the world of Praetorians, since it's during the Roman Empire, Duh! lol
Now, seriously it gives the game the right atmosphere. if you have a good sound card you will experience most of it!
If you like the music from commandos 2, you'll like the music of Praetorians.
Unit voices are ALWAYS THE SAME. They almost say the same thing over and over again no matter how times you assign a unit a command. The footsteps, the birds, and other environmental sounds are good. The battle sounds like the clashing of swords, Is also good. You'll enjoy it.
The gameplay is kind of basic. But It's a strategy game!
The more you play it the more you want it! It is kind of difficult, but that's what makes you want it even more!
You can assign groups of troops by holding Ctrl + the number of the group (ex: 1, and then just by pressing 1 you will select the entire group, thus making it easier to organize your units). As for units you can count with Legionnaires, Archers, as well as Healers. There are 3 civilizations: The Romans, The Egyptians and The Barbarians, Each with unique special units.
As for game modes there are Campaign, the main story; Skirmish, play costume games against the computer; and Multiplayer, play online with people all over the world!
Replay Value: 8/10
Again, It's a strategy game. You can play it again and again and again online with your friends, or you can play against the computer in Skirmish mode. There are always new strategies to develop!
, like using archers on higher ground to create an ambush, followed by a massive attack of infantry. It's up to you to discover new strategies!
Anyway, you will not be disappointed with Praetorians, it's a great game but a little difficult though. The only downside is, again, unit voices. but you eventually get used to it. My opinion: If you like Strategy games go ahead and BUY IT!!! ;)
Buy It! :P
