"This Game Was Suppose To Be For Kids?!"

I got this game as a birthday gift a few years ago because I loved the first Lego Racers game so much. I loved the idea of being able to build your own car out of Lego and race with it. This game delivers everything that was in the first Lego Racers and more... a little was removed though, what was a little bit of a disapointment.

Story: 10/10

I don't see how the story could be any better... it gets summed up in a little intro video with no words said what so ever. Its also brings back memories for you people who completed the masterpiece Lego Racers.

The intro shows the former Lego Racers champion, Rocket Racer, in his good old grey and black racing suit walking down a path and a newspaper flies in his face advertising a planet called Xalax where the best racers race. He jumps into his car and drives off into a portal. He starts to race a bunch of racers and wins, he then gets into his new ride and gets his own sign back at Sandy Bay, advertising the Galactic Racing Championship.

Gameplay: 8.5/10

Brilliant, they removed the "circuit" system from Lego Racers and added a "world" system where you drive around and talk to people to challenge them. Very Fun. The tracks now do not "snap" you to the track. Now it is the checkpoint system seen in very few games besides the Crusin' series. Another plus to this game is able to choose your character's head, headgear, shirt, and pants. Fun Stuff. The car building system is hard to use and seems like they just took the PS2 builder and just ported it... wait... forget seems... that is EXACTLY what they did. You can't even use the mouse. Something added onto this game that wasn't in the original is car damage. When you crash into walls or get hit with a power up you loose bricks and need to visit a pit stop to get them put back on. If your car gets damaged too much, you will loose it and you will have to run to the next pit stop.

Graphics: 10/10

Beautiful. The levels are nicely put together, and this game features some great graphic freatures. Lens flare and reflections the biggest things. This game is still up there with some of the newer games graphic wise.

Music: 4/10
Annoying and repeats to much.

Sound Effects: 9/10
Very Nice. You can hear every weapon being fired and every brick break off.

Pros:
-Graphics
-Gameplay
-Multiplayer Battle Mode
-Adventure Mode

Cons:
-No Mouse Support For Menus
-Awful Building Interface
-Wrong System Requirements Written On Jewel Case

My biggest complaint in that the system requirements on the jewel case are COMPLETELY wrong.

200 MB hard drive space: Requires more than that
64 MB ram: Can Run With Less
16 MB video card: Can Run With Less.. I've seen it been run with 4MB
Pentium II 350MHz recommended: YEAH RIGHT! this game is still choppy on the lowest graphic setting on an AMD-K6 2 400MHz

In the end, this game is great. Great purchase if you want sometime to do in your free time.

Final Score: 8/10
