Uplink: Hacker Elite
Review by TheaN
"Uplink. Hacker. Elite. Unique to its class."
Uplink. Hacker. Elite. This hacker game surprised me the first time I saw it. Unique and it doesn't come with major Graphics, but with an excellent game-play and just its originality.
Graphics
4.5/10
As said above, Graphics fanatics, don't play this. The game represents itself with some like Windows or Dos graphics and a real hacker would like to boost up his skills with this game. Someone who plays the newest 3D-Shooters though, will never play this game. I liked the design they put into it though and you can make one yourself.
Game-play
8/10
Great, as a normal hacker would apply to it. Route through several computers to secure your connection, but deleted Logs too or they'll come after you eventually. That's one thing I do hate about the Game-play. Fail to protect and you can never use that user again. I also don't don't think the game is great because after playing it for two weeks, with a bit of fast forward, it has nothing new anymore. When you hack a bank ASAP, you can finish the originality of this game within a few days.
The game does add several features to it like a RPG. Upgrade software by software, upgrade hardware by hardware and boost up Gateway by Gateway, until you got the best in the end.
Story
9/10
Kinda good. You start as a stupid, nothing knowing, beginner hacker who just applied to the Uplink Corp. a free-lance hacker corp. Once you proceed in the game you'll come across several mad people, viruses, various software and a war between companies. I don't want to spoil, but it is a great story.
Sound
7/10
I cannot say much. Just great, but not that much. The voices get annoying after a while, too. The music is a lot better there.
Music
10/10
Although most people say it's annoying, I do really like the music. It has some dark background in every song. By using certain mods you can bring in your own.
Features
10/10
If you don't play fast, you can just do a lot of things. Hack existing servers, boost up money, destroy a 1000 computers on one day or do the storyline again. Make your own Skins and Gateways by using Version 1.31 and use them. Just great.
Overall 9.5/10
Recommended for those who like hacking, don't really care about the Graphics and like a good Story. But I think it's just great, for everyone.
Greetings,
Arno "TheaN" Middelkoop
