WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game
Review by Greatest One
"Compared to today's wrestling games, this game is a pile of junk"
Wrestlemania was one of the earliest WWF video games. It featured eight different characters, such as The Undertaker, Yokozuna and Doink. It also featured three modes, a career mode, vs match and a tag-team match. The career mode consisted of you choosing a wrestler and going through the other wrestlers to be crowned WWF champion. The tag team match was more like a tornado match, because you didn't tag, everyone was in the ring at all times.
Each wrestler had a few moves unique to himself. Undertaker had the tombstone, Shawn Michaels had the Super Kick and Bret Hart had the sharpshooter. You could also take the wrestlers out of the ring and fight there.
The bad parts about this game were the sound and the gameplay. The enrance themes of the wrestlers sounded too wimpy. Besides they didn't really have entrances. All they did was run from one corner to the other while their music blared..I mean tinnied.
The action was stupid too. Everytime a wrestler got hurt, stuff fell out of his body. Yokozuna had slabs of beef and chicken fall out, Luger had dumbells and The Undertaker released tombstones. Where did these come from? Also submissions lasted for maybe half a second. bret hart's sharpshooter lasts for less than a second and it is his finishing move. The moves were strange too. Undertaker does his tombstone by lifting his opponent 20 feet in the air before dropping him. Shawn Michael's finisher is not the super kick, but it is a huricanrana.
This game was all right when it came out, but with games like Attitude and Smackdown, there is no point in playing this game.
Graphics: 8.
The graphics were actually pretty good. You could identify each and every wrestler by looking at them. The crowd looked like they were made of paper though.
Sounds: 5.
Entrance music sounds bad and there is no commentary. The sound effects during the game were marred by the sounds of the ridiculous objects coming out of the wrestlers.
Gameplay: 6.
Each wrestler had a limited number of moves which were easy to pull off. The computer was too easy.
Replay Value: 7.
This game was fun in its time. Playing with a friend was very interesting.
Overall: 5.
Wrestlemania just doesn't stack up to the great wrestling games of today.
