"A really basic game, but....... still a little fun"

Yep, Minesweeper IS a really simple game. The concept: you are presented with a screen consisting of little blocks. You click on a block to uncover it, and when you do, you'll find one of two things: a mine, which means you lose, or a number. The number refers to the number of mines contained in the eight squares (or less) that surround the numbered square. For example, a square in a corner has three touching squares: to both sides and one diagonal. If the number 2 is revealed, it means that 2 of these 3 squares contain mines. The object of the game is to uncover all the numbers while uncovering no mines. To do so takes brains and some patience as well. Options include a difficulty setting, and a custom option which lets you choose you many mines are on the field, and how big the field is.

Graphics: 3/10

OK...... the graphics aren't bad, it's just that they're simple: that's how they're supposed to be. So I can't give them a good score, but a bad score doesn't seem right. I would say N/A, but I like to give a numerical ranking to every category.......

Sound: 1/10

Now, here's where N/A would definitely apply. There are no sounds in this game, literally. No music. No sound effects.

Gameplay: 7/10

The game can be addicting, though not as much as Tetris. Still, it does have a certain charm to it. The game originally seems easy, but don't be fooled: it takes some brains to beat a level. The frustration factor is not particularly high, and you set the challenge yourself by customization. Still, one negative would have to be the lack of depth. Even though you can play this game for some time, you will have seen everything it really has to offer after the first five minutes.

Replay: 8/10

Well, replay value is the point of the game. Pretty fun to play again, but it seems more like one of those games you play to kill five minutes, or if you're bored on an airplane trip.

Overall: 5/10

A copy of the game is included with Windows, so you know it can't be THAT deep. Still, you may be surprised to find out that it isn't really a bad game. If you like mind games, you will frequently find yourself taking a few minutes to play a quick game of Minesweeper.
