"Still a great game, even with CM4 coming out soon."
The great thing about the Championship Manager series is that you know, whichever version it is, you are going to get the best football management sim around.
The best features of the Championship Manager games are the huge databases, the simple but detailed format, the huge span of things to do in the game and of course, being the most realistic and detailed management simulation.
As soon as you start playing Championship Manager 01/02, you will see the sheer size of the game with a huge amounts of different leagues to choose from. After that you will see the great detail that has been put into the teams, with even reserve players being added in. You will also see the huge amount of options, with the opportunity to check out every player in detail, negotiate transfer deals with other teams and look at the huge news section every day. The game is just so huge and detailed.
All the players and staff have their own personalities, with some protesting about your decision to substitute them and some showing true loyalty to the club at all times. Also, the fans never hesitate to let their feelings about your running of the club be heard, some praising you at every opportunity and others calling for your resignation every week.
Another great feature of this game is the Data Editor, which allows you to change many features of the game including club squads and player attributes. It is also possible to make new teams and players and include them in real leagues. A fun thing to do with the editor is to create yourself and make yourself really good and add yourself to your favourite team.
This game has kept me occupied for the last twelve months which shows it has a huge lifespan. As the game never ends and you cannot complete it, the game lasts very long and is still played a lot just before the new edition is released.
The only bad thing I can say about the game is the fact that there is no 3D match engine. However, CM thoroughly makes up for this with a great match 'text commentary' and real sounds from football matches.
Overall, I think there is no better management sim out there and the only game that is going to beat this game in the near future is the much anticipated Championship Manager 4 due for release this autumn.
