Might and Magic II
Review by MasterEli
"Greatest Role-Plaing Game of ALL TIME"
Might and Magic 2: Gates to Another World. Made in 1989, this game is incredibly old. However, after 15 years, it still remains the greatest RPG of all time. Why, you ask? Well, it has ample graphics, so-so sound effects, really no music, and FANTASTIC, AMAZING, nearly PERFECT gameplay. This game is extremely enthralling, and it is very satisfying to play. Unlike Might and Magic I, which featured a similar game engine with horrible gameplay, Might and Magic II features a tweaked game engine with incomparably better game play.
As I said before, graphics have never been and never will be the staple of the Might and Magic game series. This game has pretty bad graphics. The game is turn-based, and the animations are crude and full of pixels. You can make out the people and monsters that are portrayed, however.
The sound effects and music are not top notch either. There are actually very few in the entire game. Thus, when playing Might and Magic II, prepare to play a music CD on your computer or listen to the computer. Otherwise, you will be playing in all but complete silence.
Gameplay is the hallmark of the Might and Magic series, and gameplay is the hallmark of the great RPG, as well as any other good game. This is where Might and Magic II scores high. Might and Magic II sports an excellent storyline, which spans five games, chronicling the adventures of Corak against Sheltem, of good against evil. The game is a turn-based RPG, a gaming genre which is not seen very often today. In fact, I don't think any RPGs except the new Might and Magic games are even turn-based at all! Anyway, the game is composed of ''grids'' which are basically just maps. Thus, when you cast a teleport spell 9 squares north, you actually know where you will wind up, NINE SQUARES NORTH. This game is very logical, almost too logical. Thus, to beat the game you have to win honestly. Conversely, you won't just magically die in parts of the game for no reason. This is very nice, especially compared to some new games where you die every five seconds.
In closing, the reason why Might and Magic 2 is so great is that it sports a great storyline, phenomenal gameplay, and ample graphics. This is something which most modern day games can't boast. I would highly recommend you to buy this! It is a great game. If you can run it on your computer, please get it! You will enjoy this game. I promise.
