Death Knights of Krynn
Review by wanderer35
"Another game based on the great Dragon Lance novels"
Storyline-8/10
Somehow I feel the guys who made this game actually read the novel when they made it. Yes this is the second RPG that was made based on the Dragon Lance novels. This time you are actually fighting against the famous Lord Soth from the Dragon Lance novels. Another famous villain from the noevl also makes her appearance here although I don't think you will know who it is until the end. Although your guys are still the nameless guys with no character they actually try to give this game a decent storyline by forcing you to accept an NPC into your party who will assist you in most battles. I won't spoil it for you here but the storyline is actually better and more involving than the one in Champions of Krynn.
Soundeffect/Music-Not rated.
Hey nothing much to write about here since back then music and sound effects aren't really that great.
Graphics-8/10(during its time in 1991 but probably 3/10 compared to today's standards in the year 2003)
Well I feel that the graphics looked better than they were in Champions of Krynn. Also the 8 was based on the fact that they weren't that bad for its time. There are again
drawings and pictures that are based on the novel. Well these are some of the reasons for me giving it an 8. But players who have never read the novel might be more demanding.
Gameplay -6/10
Well its still the same clear dungeon after dungeon thing
in Champions of Krynn. But there are some interesting side quests to take part in.Also the game is actually more challenging. The battles are tougher and harder to win. Although much like Champions of Krynn you get bored after too many random encounters. The dungeons are also more complicated and you will probably be lost while exploring. Sadly I think the story of some of the side quests were better done. As for the major flaws in champions of krynn. They also made the transition into this game. Yes you still have to refer to manuals called journal entries.
Conclusion- This game actually features more characters from the actual novel which is its only saving point. Fans of the novel may or may not be pleased. But players who never read the novel wouldn't care less. As for me I'm still waiting for the day when they would make an RPG based on the storylines of Dragon Lance Chronicles or Dragon Lance Legends.
