Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle
Review by tomstaind
"Another Great Graphic Adventure Game by Lucas Arts"
I remember when I first played Monkey Island (a game made by Lucas Arts but at the time Lucas Films), I became a fan of theirs from there on. Then after playing MM, it didn't have the same effect as MI. It wasn't a bad game but it's wasn't a great game at the same time. Please don't send me hate mail. ;)
The story is basically about Dr. Fred who creates 2 tentacles. One who is purple and the other who is green. The purple tentacle drinks water from the polluted water by their house and becomes posed to take over the world. So this is when you come in, you play as Bernard. He gets a letter to come to the mansion, well when he gets there him and his friends untie the purple tentacle. Which lets him go on the way to take over the world!!!!! So Dr. Fred puts Bernard,Hoagie, and Laverne into a time machine to stop them from uniting him. Well something goes terribly wrong. Hoagie gets sent to the past and Laverne gets sent to the future. As for Benard, he stays in the present. So you have to save the world while at the same time get your friends back to the present. Can you do it?
In normal Lucas Arts fashion, you get a game that not only has a great story, but a game that is funny, has great puzzles, and a great voice acting. Plus something else you get is a game that has great music.
Graphics: 10/10
Great 2d characters, backgrounds, and objects. For a game that uses 2d graphics it still has great animations and emotions the characters have. Like a little hamster you will encounter as the game passes.
Gameplay: 10/10
Simple point and click gameplay. Not as deep as Monkey Island's but it still has challenging puzzles. Unless you use a guide. ;)
Sound: 10/10
Like I said before, great voice acting (if you get that version), great music, and great sound effects. It's just typical Lucas Arts. :)
Replay Value: 10/10
Graphic Adventures normally don't have a lot of replay value, but I have beaten this game at least 10 times. Just living the game again is fun, but some just might throw away the game and start a new game. But, it's still close to my heart as one of my favorite games ever. May sound cheesy, but I don't care.
Overall: 10/10
One of the games that proves that Lucas Arts are a great developer. Buy this game now!
